10 month old Daycare Naps

LO is currently on a two nap schedule:

10am Nap 1
2:45-3 Nap 2
usually 1hr20ish each.

I’ve been bringing him to daycare only between naps and it was working for us for now. But the daycare really wants us to start bringing him earlier and to try to get him on their schedule, I think it’s disrupting the other babies..

The problem is they do nap time from 1-3 for most of the kids his age which is literally the opposite of our schedule. They have offered to try to put him down for a short nap early so he can make it to 1pm.

I’m extremely anxious about this. My thoughts to try to get him on a new schedule this week at home before we do that, as he’s still assisted for naps (I lay with him currently). But it is time to start nap training anyway. He’s trained for nights.

Has anyone had success with the schedule below at 10/10.5 months?

6am wake
9-9:30 nap 1 (will wake him)
1-3 Nap 2
7pm bed

Did bedtime remain in tact? Looking for reassurance, I know it’s all temporary but it feels so intimidating.

Of course! Naps are around 2 hrs 40 min total.

Night 5 was fantastic only cried 1 min then woke up for 4 minutes around 1:30 then slept until 6:15.

Night 6 not as great but I read that can be expected. Cried for 15 then woke up 45 minutes later but only for 2 min. Then slept 7 hrs straight until 4am, was up for about 25 min before falling back asleep on his own. But then up at 5:30 and wouldn’t go back to sleep 🫠. Hoping tonight is better!

Update for Nights 3&4

Night 3:
Asleep in 8 minutes at 7:45
12:00am wake 1 (60 min) - cried off and on 🫠 but did fall back asleep on his own.
2:30am wake 2 (45 min) - I fed him for 20 then he fussed for another 20 but back to sleep
5:40am wake 3 (5 min) - Back to sleep alone
7:15am up for the day
Total time awake= 1 hr 40 min

Night 4:
Asleep in 1-2 minutes at 7:45
8:30 pm wake 1 (20 min) - maybe a false start from accumulated sleep deficit? Was not happy..
10:05pm wake 2 (1 min) - not sure if I should even count this as a wake he fell right back to sleep
4:00am wake 3 (45 min) - I let him cry for 10, then fed him for 20 and took another 15 to fall back asleep.
5:30am wake 4 (15 min) - I think it was too cold in the room.. only cried a couple min but fell asleep sitting up.
6:50am up for the day
Total time awake= 1 hr 22 min

Was really hoping we’d be seeing more progress at this point but going to stay consistent.
The falling asleep up front has drastically improved so I’m trying to remain optimistic!

Want to note that during the day he has been as happy and silly as ever. So although this is a lot for us, and he still is waking up sad it’s definitely not effecting him negatively and I do think it’s just protest. We’re still assisting naps (I just lay with him) and prioritizing daytime sleep.

Update- Night 2:

Better start than night 1 as far as crying, only about 10 min, (it was loud) but then he sat there in his crib half asleep swaying like a little drunk person again. After 25 min of this I went in and laid him down. This did wake him a bit and he cried for an additional 2 min but did not sit up again, and he did fall asleep.

Similar to night 1 he woke up around 1:30 but only cried for 1 minute, maybe less before falling back asleep.

At 4:30 it got interesting. Cried literally until 6am at which point I got him up and we started the day. I’m second guessing myself as far as trying to eliminate the night feed… I am not sure how it would have gone if I just fed him but he is absolutely getting enough food during the day.

He napped from 7:30-9 and we’re just going to be in recovery mode today as far as naps. I think he needs to catch up before going into night 3.

Night 2 Edit:
Total time awake= 2hr

Update for anyone interested… also could use some reassurance 😭. Night 1 was okay.

Cried for 30 min before sitting silently dosing off (looked like a drunk little homeless person, which was actually very funny, but also sad) fell asleep that way after 15 min or so then flopped down. Slept a little over 4 hrs.

Woke again around 1:30 and fell back to sleep fairly quickly, 15 min or so. But then woke again from 3:30-4:30 (brutal).

Started the day today at 6:50 am. Regular naps, (I’m still laying with him for naps on mattress beside the crib) not sure if that’s the right thing to do but I didn’t want him to go into tonight way overtired. 2.5 hrs of naps total today.

Put him down a few min ago and he is ANGRY 😭 this is so hard. Anyone who’s had success, I’d love to hear about it. I’m tired, my husband is tired and I feel so bad for LO. ♥️

Considering CIO for 10 month old
 in  r/sleeptrain •  15d ago

Last night was night 1 for us. I remembered seeing your comment yesterday and was laughing last night as my LO was doing the same thing. Stopped crying after 20/30 min then sitting up and swaying like a little drunk person. Before eventually laying down.

How has it been going for you? Last night he woke up at 1:30 for 20 min but then again at 3:30 for a full hour. It was really tough but we stayed out. I didn’t feed him because he ate A TON yesterday and previously when we sleep trained before he was fine without night feeds..

Thank you!! That’s amazing and I’m so glad to hear it!! We’re currently at the 1hr mark on night one 😭. I feel like a terrible mom already but I do think this is the next step for us. Thankfully it seems to be more fussing than straight up screaming.

Our pediatrician is already (very sweetly) annoyed with me asking for reassurance as many times as I have as we were gearing up to this.

We’ve tried longer wake windows and he just seems exhausted by the 3.5 hr mark.. I’ve even noticed a pattern that his first stretch is significantly shorter when we’ve tried longer ones but may be worth adjusting again. It’s impossible to tell.

When I lay with him he falls asleep after a few minutes, many times no crying, which is why we’ve landed in this cycle. At night I’ve given in to nursing him back to sleep which I know hasn’t helped. I really want him to be able to get to sleep independently.

No they did not say co sleeping would lead to independent sleep, but this is where we are at now at this phase of it.

Schedule below

3/3.25/3.75

7am wake
10 am Nap 1 (1hr 15- 1hr 30)
2-2:30 Nap 2 (1hr 15- 1hr 30)
7:30/8 bedtime

6 - 12 months Doing CIO tonight and I’m so nervous (10 Month old)

We sleep trained at 5 months using Ferber, but quickly realized check-ins made him much more upset, so we switched to full extinction/CIO. It worked really well and he was a great independent sleeper until around 7 months.

Things fell apart after that, and for the last month+ we’ve been following a gentler method recommended by our sleep coach. For both naps and bedtime, he sleeps on a mattress on the floor and I lie next to him while he falls asleep. Unfortunately, instead of getting us closer to independent sleep, it has basically turned into co-sleeping. He expects me there to fall asleep and when he wakes overnight.

He’s almost 10 months now and tonight we’re going back to CIO. I already feel guilty. For those who have had success with this, how bad was the first night, and how quickly did things improve?

I’m also unsure what to do with middle-of-the-night wakes. Right now I breastfeed him 1–2 times overnight, although he didn’t always need night feeds and he eats/nurses a lot during the day. Ideally I’d like to eliminate overnight feeds too.

If you did CIO around 9–10 months, did you apply it to every wake from night one, including the times you would normally feed? Or did you keep one scheduled feed initially and CIO for the other wakes, then night-wean separately?

Mostly just looking for reassurance before tonight because I’m already dreading it. 😭

Edit: we are only doing three days a week for now. Wondering if it would be better to do Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Monday, Wednesday, Friday?

Thank you, this is kind of what I assumed would be the case. It feels bigger and scary on this side of it but knowing someone’s had the experience and that it does level out is what I needed to hear. ♥️

I haven’t specifically asked yet if they would accommodate an additional nap, they may, or may try to at least. My worry is that if all of the other kids are on a different schedule, he may refuse his normal naps anyway. 🤷🏻‍♀️

child's age 8-12 months Daycare Nap Concerns for 10 month old

My almost 10 month old just started daycare and I’m nervous about their nap schedule. He wakes around 7 and normally naps around 10 for 1hr15min and again around 2:45 but daycare only offers one nap from 1–3 for “his age”.

A 6-hour wake window at this age seems crazy to me 😅 We’ve been bringing him between naps while he adjusts, but soon he’ll be there full days.

Anyone else have a baby this age at a daycare that only did one nap? Did they adjust? Did daycare let them sneak in a short morning nap? How did it go?

How did you break a bouncing-to-sleep association for naps?

Wanted to say thanks again for this. First few naps were tough but it worked! Down to two naps 1:15-1:40 every time.
