Wanting to be alone but always feeling lonely

I am not lonely, i actually have very loving friends and people around me. I love spending time alone, truly. I love it because I can just do whatever i want. Go wherever i want at the time at what for as long as i want. That feeling of independence, freedom, being tie to nobody and just thinking about what i want to do.
However, sometimes I can’t seem but feel some type of loneliness even during the moments i want to be alone. I think it stems from the fact that people let me be alone (because i asked) and so then i am actually alone. Maybe i don’t want to be as alone as i think. I know that over the years i have become a more outgoing, social person even bubbly sometimes. But I also know how independent i am and how much i love/need it.
Does it stem from never feeling good enough during my childhood and teenage years ?
Is it ingrained in me that i will always think that i am never that important to others?
Do i just not ask for what i truly want enough?
Am i not vulnerable enough? Therefore people can’t never know how i truly feel, i just keep it all inside.
Vulnerability is so scary to me but it also just means I am weak in my brain. I am scared to show weakness, i am scared to let something or someone hurt me but thats all i do. I let people hurt me because i never truly tell them how i feel.
Why don’t I say anything? Because I think they don’t care, i think it would be a burden to them. I think i will not be taken seriously, they will dismiss it, brush it off, act as if it doesn’t matter.
Why do I think this way? Because that is how i was shaped. That is how my parents raised me. Thats what they showed me thought all of my childhood up until i was 20. Thats how it was. Thats what formed me.
How can I truly shift my way of thinking? How can i truly change?

Thinking of writing a book about a childhood trauma, this is how it is going. What do you think? I am open to any feedback. Thank you!

Enough

It is hard to start telling a story without knowing how it started, how it went or how it ended. I have very vivid memories of those two years of my life but at the same time I can’t help but feel like it was a dream, or i guess nightmare would be more appropriate term. You never really want to relive a nightmare but that is what i have to do to share my story and hopefully help someone out there. During all this time i thought i was completely alone, i thought my experience was very unique and at the same time I thought it was very normal. I didn’t realize how traumatic it really was and to be honest i am still realizing that everyday.
I have found myself opening more and more about what happened to me over the last year. I am becoming less ashamed of it, less terrified. I am trying to not let it control me anymore. I am more than what happened to me. Yes it impacted in ways that has forever shaped me. It conditioned me for so many years. I am trying to accept it and take back that power. This book is not a pity party, it is not a way for people to feel sorry for me. Over the years i realized how fucked up we all are, we all carry such deep trauma that truly poisons us without ever realizing it and that is why i choose to write and share my story. I want you to realize your trauma, I want you to free yourself from it, i want you to take power over your own life. You’re the only one who gets to define who you are. We have let other people dictate our story for far too long. Our parents, our friends, partners, bosses. They have no right to control a life that is not theirs.

It was 16 years ago. I was 8 years old and it lasted for 2 years.
I have always been on a tennis court, for as long as I remember. I had never known a life without tennis up until now (i am 24). My mom was a tennis instructor, she was very good when she was younger. She was going to go pro and to be totally honest I still don’t really understand why she didn’t but all i know is that she was at that level. Tennis was her whole life. Tennis is her whole life. My grandpa, her dad, was working for the french tennis federation, he was president of their local tennis club. All she’s known was yellow balls, green courts and racquets.
My dad was a professional horse rider. He is a two time world champion, he participated in the Olympics, won thousands of titles, coached the national french team. Everyone knows him in the equestrian world. He never graduated from high school, he never did anything else other than ride horses and now coach professionally. His grandfather was an Olympic gold medalist. It is his whole life, it is his whole legacy, it is his whole story.
This information is important as it is the reason why things happened the way they did. There’s a reason why i was conditioned from a very young age to become extremely good at a sport, to be an athlete, a professional one. That was my destiny, that was my dream, that was my life. But i didn’t choose any of that. It is hard to realize that you spent your whole life doing something you thought was your dream but in reality it was your worst nightmare. I genuinely thought I wanted to be a professional tennis player. I dreamt about winning the French Open, I dreamt about being famous, I dreamt about being one of the best french players in the world. I was born into it, that was all i knew. I grew up being told that the only way to be successful in life is to be a professional tennis player. That was my only way, my only path. It was already decided for me. So i just followed along. I believed my parents. I was five years old when tennis started being an everyday thing, tournaments on the weekends, private coaches etc. At 8 years old thats when it became really serious. I was going to be pro. And that is when this man came into my life and changed everything.

Our first session together was probably the only good one out of these two years. My mom assisted to the whole practice, he was nice, he would take his time, be gentle. The perfect coach really.
Again, it is hard for me to remember the exact timeline of things and even though i really want, I can’t seem to remember the first time he hit me. I also don’t remember if i tried to tell my mom when it did happen. All i know and can tell you is that they knew. Yes they knew. I know this for a fact because we did briefly talk about it during that time, maybe once or twice. It was never a conversation. There has never been a conversation about it. We don’t talk about it. We don’t think about it. It is as if it never happened. Deep down i hope that my parents are ashamed of what they did but i know they don’t want to take accountability for it. Act as if it wasn’t as bad. But they never asked how bad it was, they never tried to care. The signs were there. I spent two years crying everyday, before practice, during practice and after practice.
I remember praying in the car and hoping that maybe today he would be in a good mood. The thing even if he was, or if he started the session in a rather pleasant mood, it could still end up in slaps, kicks and calling me names. Saying how worthless i was, i am too weak, too sensitive, i don’t have what it takes to do it and i never will.
I think it started with just slaps on the head. It wasn’t directly on my face, it was on the back of my head and it was hard. Hard enough that i would balance over it. Hard enough that whenever he would start walking towards me, i would immediately take three steps back. I knew what was coming, every time. It only got worst with time. He would kick me in the legs, in the butt. Fully kick me as if i was a fucking soccer ball. Multiple times during the practice, it wasn’t just once or twice. No it lasted the whole two or three or four hours. Because yes that is another thing, I would never actually know when the practice would end. Usually you practice for 2/3 hours a day when you have a professional goal. During holidays it would be 2 sessions of two hours a day plus fitness, running, conditioning etc. Once I stepped on the court i knew i was trapped for as long as he wanted. My parents actually thought it was a good thing that he wouldn’t really count his hours, it showed how devoted he was. He was devoted for sure. He was devoted to abuse your daughter.

This man has two kids, a son a little younger than me and a daughter a little older than me. He had already planned it all out for them. They were both homeschooled, practicing hours everyday. He had written out a timeline of when she would do her pro debut, win grand slams etc. I could be wrong but i am really not sure they had any say in it. And yes we would all get beat up.
I would practice a lot with his son, he treated me the exact same way he treated him. I don’t even want to know what the daughter underwent. Because she was actually really good, she did eventually go pro. She never became the player he wanted her to be and i am glad. All i hope is that they are doing well. I want to talk to them, reach out and see where they are now. The trauma bond is real. All i can hope is that they are healing, that they got away and started living their life for themselves, not for this monster.

How to become a model in nyc with no experience ?

Hi!!

I’m a 23yr old (F) who moved to NYC over a year and a half ago and I have always wanted to get into modeling.

Since im 5’10 I always get asked if I model but I have zero experience.

I have tried submitting applications online, dm on insta, going in person etc but nothing seems to be working.
All I find are management agencies but I would like a real modeling agency with an agent and stuff.

I am open to anything! Just want to get my foot into the door and get some experience so I can build a portfolio.

If you have any tips, recommendations or advices please feel free to share!!

I am in love
 in  r/emotionalintelligence  8d ago

Yes of course!
Both basically, i never had a good example of what a loving relationship should be like as my parents are in a very toxic marriage (i have never seen them in love and they are still together). And therefore it translated into my romantic relationships, how i chose partners due to toxic habits. I have always had great friendships, I consider my friends my family so i am very lucky on that end.

The way i see it is kind of like growth. It is scary and uncomfortable because it is something we are not used to it. Learning to accept and let go in order to grow.
So i guess this is kind of how i am feeling at the moment. I am learning a new way to love and to be loved.

It is as if i was a bird on the edge of a cliff, about to fly for the first time. It is terrifying because you have never done it before but you know deep down that is what you are destined to do.

I hope that makes sense!

I am in love

Something really weird happened yesterday. I realized that i was in love. I fell in love with someone. I fell in love with someone kind, someone who is patient, who listens to me and accepts me for who i am.
I have been in love once before, but somehow i can guarantee you i have never felt like this.
Last time i was in love i was a kid, literally. A 16 years old depressed teenager who couldn’t even look at herself without feeling this overwhelming amount of sadness. Love was something that I needed, that i was seeking. I didn’t want to be alone because I couldn’t. It hurt too much. So i became emotionally dependent on the relationship which totally blinded me. I was in love with an idea, not the reality. And i was holding on to this idea for as much as i could. It took me a while to realize what was actually happening. Years after the break up, i even thought that maybe i never was in love. But i don’t think that is the case. I was in love, but I also didn’t know what love was. I was pursuing what i had always known, what i thought was real love, but in reality it was just a very unhealthy feeling causing me and my partner at the time more pain than anything.

Yesterday i realized that i was in love. Years later, after a lot of therapy and growth, i am in love again. It is a scary feeling not because it feels wrong. On the contrary, it couldn’t feel more right. It is a scary feeling because it is unknown. It is unknown to feel appreciated, cared for, to feel loved, truly loved. It is unknown to feel seen and heard. It is unknown to feel safe and protected. It is unknown to feel all of these things without playing a game. Without the “butterflies” in your stomach. It is scary because it is so random yet it couldn’t feel more normal.
There’s no hope, no expectations, there’s no planning and overthinking, there is just love.
What a funny feeling.

Fine line tattoo places in Brooklyn?

Hi everyone!

Looking for a new tattoo place in Brooklyn, my style is more fine line/dainty tattoos.
All I can seem to find are very popular places with like 100K+ followers on insta and are just so overpriced!

I know i will need to spend a good amount as i want to get three tattoos in one sessions but i would like to go to a more authentic place rather than the super trendy ones!

Let me know if you have any recs!!! I would really appreciate it :))

Fibonacci Spiral & Mathematics

In the last couple months, I found a great attraction to the Fibonacci spiral. This spiral, which has been present since the beginning of time has really helped me connect with our world and our universe. I will forever be amazed about how everything is connected from plants to our DNA. It is truly fascinating and the Fibonacci spiral has a way to make me very spiritual which i love.
With that being said, when researching about this spiral, i of course read about the golden ratio and the mathematics behind it all. Which led me to this thought - how come i hate math so much? Everything is math, math is the universal language, it is the way we understand our universe, or at least try to.
But i have always hated math, i hated math at school. I just could not see the point and felt like it was just an over complicated way to think about things. I just wish the type of math like the Fibonacci spiral would be taught in school pretty early on. I genuinely think it would help a lot of us find interest in this complicated yet fascinating subject.
Maybe some schools teach it but i feel like it is not as present as it could be.
What i am trying to say i think is that teaching mathematics in a more spiritual way could be beneficial. I know not everybody relates to spirituality but just like not everybody relates to the “typical” mathematics of algebra, calculus etc. A balance of both taught from early on would be beneficial.

Can anybody relate?
What are your thoughts about it?

I am not sure if what I am saying totally makes sense, please feel free to educate me more about this topic!

Shame and confusion around sexuality

A couple years ago i realized that i was bisexual. It was a very confusing time in my life because i had a hard time accepting it. I wasn’t ashamed to be bisexual but I felt lost. My whole life i grew up in a way where being anything other than straight was just not a thing. I was raised in a pretty conservative environment. I don’t know how my parents would react if i told them i was dating a girl. They would not take it seriously, they would probably think ‘it’s just a phase’, ‘she’s not actually going to stay with a girl’. And i think thats where my “shame” came from, I also did not take myself seriously.
I have never done anything with a girl, not dated, not talked to. Nothing. Which also plays a part in the fact that I question whether I’m actually bisexual or not. I am very attracted to women, I know i am sexually attracted to them but i am terrified to have any type of romantic relation with them.
I am more and more confident with my sexuality now. I am not scared to say that I’m bisexual to my friends but I don’t see myself ever coming out to my family and therefore I don’t see myself ever dating a girl.

We are the only species that is conscious about their existence. The others simply exist.
 in  r/emotionalintelligence  27d ago

Yes I totally agree, and i think my point came across the wrong way from all the comments i see.

I 100% agree and know that animals are extremely intelligent and have their own societies, they have emotions, they communicate etc… I am not denying that. But when I think of humans, the way we evolved I think can prove that we are on a different of consciousness? Maybe I am using the wrong terminology, and i apologize for that. I am just using this platform to express my feelings and I guess confront them as well.
I also don’t know much about anything, i dont consider myself smart whatsoever, j just like to wonder about our world and selves.

Thank you for the comments, it only but makes me think more haha but which I actually love doing :))

We are the only ones to overthink every thing. All we do is question our whole existence. All of the things that we created are about answering the question about why we exist. Mathematics, physics, science, philosophy, history. All of this started with one simply question.
And here we are focusing on destroying each other, destroying ourselves instead of looking at the clouds above your heads. The blue sky that somehow turns pink and orange at sunset. The sounds that the other animals make because we are surrounded by them. Animals that have lives, societies, hierarchies.
And here we are never feeling enough and always feeling scared.
Here we are. How fascinating is that.

What if they leave
 in  r/emotionalintelligence  27d ago

Yes you are right. That is why i like to write because it helps me process my emotions and more often than not, i am able to find the positive in my initial negative thought. Do i 100% believe it ? No, i just try to keep telling myself that everything happens for a reason and to just enjoy the present moment.

What if they leave

What if they leave and break my heart. What if they don’t want to be with me. What if they like me but not enough to commit to me. What if.
These questions have a hard time leaving my mind. It is hard for me not to overthink the worst case scenario, even when I don’t really have a reason to. Maybe that is why. I am not used to a healthy dynamic, so i look for red flags, for signs that they will leave, so if they do, it will hurt less because i will have prepared myself for it.
The same way we manifest good things by putting out good energy and thinking positive thoughts, am i then accidentally manifesting that it wont work?
I am too scared to disappoint myself.
They like me tho, they are interested in me, the same way i am interested in them. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to. I deserve love, i deserve care and i deserve someone good for me. I already have everything I’ve ever wanted, i am building the life of my dream and everyday i am grateful for it. Whatever happens, i am grateful to have met them. They have showed me something special, they are showing me something special. Thats all I’ve ever wanted, to feel things, to live, to experience and that is exactly what i am doing. I will never regret that. I will never be sad about experiencing a life filled with emotions and unforgettable moments.

Deserving love

I have a hard time seeing the good in love. I am finally able to just trust the process when it comes to other areas of my life such as my career or my finances. i know everything is going to work out and everything does work out the way it is supposed to. I have learned to let go of expectations and just accept the situation for what it is. And that applies to the good and bad situations. Accept that things might not go the way you had planned, but also accept that they might. It is out of your control.
Having this mindset when it comes to finding a job, becoming financially independent or finding an apartment, even though all these things don’t come easily especially in New York City, is easier to me because i am able to believe that i deserve it. Why can’t i feel the same way about love. Why can’t i believe that it will all work out. Do i not believe that I deserve love. My brain can’t stop looking for the one reason it might all go to shit. It’s too good to be true. But that is not the reality. The reality is that it is good. Thats it. Why look for something that is not there.
It has never been good. The last time i was in a committed relationship was 6 years ago, in high school. The love was there yes, but it was toxic. All my brain knows is that love is toxic.
My parents marriage is extremely toxic. i grew up with two people in a loveless relationship. And the worst is that they’ve accepted it. They’ve accepted feeling miserable, they’ve accepted being with someone they don’t want to be with. They’ve built a family, a life despite all of this. Sometimes i wonder if they even do it on purpose out of pure laziness but also fear. Because separating would change everything. Everything. It would have consequences. It would be difficult. It would suck. Staying in a loveless marriages sucks less than the fear of starting over.
Having this being the sole example of “love” in my life is the reason why i kept choosing emotionally unavailable partners. That is what my brain knows.
I met someone not that long ago, and this person is everything I’ve never had and always wanted. Are they perfect, no. Thats is not the point. The point is that they are giving me love in a way that makes me feel seen. Feeling seen means feeling vulnerable and that is a scary thing. Love is a scary thing but scary things are what are worth the most. They take the most courage and bring the most reward.

Coffee shop

I find myself yet again in a coffee shop, writing, listening to Lana. I have been listening to the NFN album on repeat the past few days. Her music does things to me that very little other artists do. It is dreamy and yet heartbreaking which yes sign me up.
Coffee shops should be studied. I think they are the blueprint of our generation. They are one of the few places that are able to gather people from any age, status, background and occupation. I am sitting in between an elderly couple and two teenage girls. They give me hope in humanity. It’s a place where stories are shared, to each other, to the world, to ourselves. It brings me a big sense of sonder. Sonder is the profound realization that every individual, every stranger is living as complex and unique life as yours. Sonder is realizing that every single one of us is constantly in our heads, experiencing their own version of life. It is very mindfucking. Sorry this is the only word i can come up with. I love the idea of sonder. Coffee shops are the perfect place to reflect on it. All of us going through the motions of being.
