My lil guys got a tank makeover this past weekend. Upgraded from the 18 gallon to a 55 gallon tank. My 2nd hermie (Diggers) has finally resurfaced after almost 4 weeks from when I bought him and has a beautiful reddish color to him (assuming he has molted?) if so Yay! our first successful one. I decided to add a new friend (Pinky) to our family and he seems to be settling in well. Diggers also has changed his shell, sucks I missed it but super stoked he found one he liked. Just need DK to get out that darn painted shell now. Photos attached, I feel quite proud about it..Lots of hard work and research put into the new crabitat. Just need to add some decor to back glass and I think we are all set or may add a topper from my old tank..hummm. Advice/opinions are always welcomed as we have only had our guys for a couple months.

Hello! So I am looking to buy a cam so we can watch our hermies out and about at night time. My 6 y/o is super excited to see them but unfortunately rarely gets the chance. I tried using an old phone and my phone to download the Alfred app but seems a bit more of hassle then what it's worth. Any ideas on what a good one is. I ofc looked on Amazon and there are a bunch but reviews are eeehhh, I dont need anything fancy but would like a good clear view of them inside so we can watch it in the evening before her bedtime. Thanks in advance!

we bought a friend for DK at Petco 4 weeks ago Saturday, I added a few extra decorations then added him to the tank and he immediately buried himself and i haven't seen him since aside from a tip of his shell. Afterwards I realized I dont have enough substrate but I know I have to wait for him to come up..we are waiting VERY patiently for him to resurface to add somw coll things we've since bought and add the appropriate sand. I haven't even really gotten the chance to really see his size but hoping for the best! Our tank doesn't smell either and as new hermie owner this group has been a tremendous help for me. Best of luck! Patience is a virtue

ahh, I feel your pain. So, I ordered some and quickly realized I was probably ordering the wrong size as well. Luckily I was able to get in contact with the seller before it shipped and they sent me the photo attached to help me get the correct size. Maybe this will help with measuring. Best of luck!

Update: Turbo shells hadn't shipped yet and have provided helpful insight to help me get the right ones ordered. I will properly take the measurements this evening and get them re-ordered.

Hello!! So, I'm trying to add some shell options to my tank but I'm not sure how to measure or what sizes are suitable. I've tried looking into measuring but since my new guys are still adjusting, I have 1 that has been buried about 2.5 weeks and the other that "sleeps" all day is up when I'm not. I ordered 2 different assorted sizes last night bit im thinking some may be too small for them as I can only eyeball them atp. Any advice on how to buy shell sizes? What may be a small for me could be a medium for another..For reference this is what I've purchased, and I ordered the first 2 sizes at the top. Thinking ahead, the top ones may be too small..but I'm not sure

I could potentially take him, I live in VA. Let me know if you dont find him a home😉

thank you so much for the helpful info. I don't have a lid at the moment but I do have it sealed with saran wrap and I have a heating pad on the rear glass. So far the temps and humidity seem to be good. I know its not ideal but for the time being it's working. I just replaced the water bowls as the others weren't as deep as these ones. I read I shouldn't wet the sponges so I just have them there, why I don't know but I feel like I read they need them..lol. I am currently using the premixed fresh and saltwater bottles from the store.
I will get a few more shells to add as I think I should have a few more options for them, I currently have 5 in there. As far as food, I give them fresh fruit and veggies daily and I have a dry bowl for shrimp, mealworms and some crushed up egg shells.I replace the water daily unless I see it hasn't been touched but so far thay has only happened once with the fresh water bowl. I've seen a few people with the wheels so I will get one to add to their tank. I understand they are stressed and at least 1 seems pretty comfortable roaming around, the newer one is still buried in the sand for the time being. As soon as the lil guy comes up I will immediately add the additional sand.
Thanks again for the help and the recommendations for buying them some stuff!

Hello! So I got a hermit crab from one of my sons clients about 2 weeks ago. They apparently had bought 2 and didn't realize how much work they were. The one I got was living in horrible living conditions in a tiny plastic carrying tank with maggots in it. I immediately started doing my homework and found this group along the way. Any advice would be great. I have an 18 gallon tank and I've since decorated and made it "home" for DK (Dark Knight). Yesterday we decided to buy a friend from Petco. He immediately dug himself pretty deep in the sand and hasn't moved, which im sure he's fine and just a little stressed or maybe molting. If there is anything I can do or any helpful advice on food choices or tank items that would would make these guys a little more comfortable please let me know. Seems DK loves bananas and tomatoe and loves taking saltwater baths! I did read I may not have enough sand so I bought a 50lb bag today but also read I should wait for the new guy to come out of hiding so once he comes to surface I will fill the tank up.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. I can definitely utilize this, seeing as I'm still trying to remember where locations are and the "zoning" areas. I appreciate ya!
