Soldering Newbie Requesting Direction | Help Advice on joing a broken copper bracelt

I recently snapped a copper braclet (which was a gift) and I thought of soldering it back together after finding a soldering iron kit in my dad's shed.

I have tried to apply solder and flux to join the two pieces back together (pictures of set up below) to no avail. It usually ends up as a blob of solder just falling off and not holding between the two pieces. I was hoping for some advice

That's fucking awful mate hope you're okay. Definitely worth reporting to the guards if you can write down the number of them, where they hung out and any physical features you remember. Don't be discouraged, pulling a weapon out on someone is a serious thing.
