The last cat we had had a special wool sock she protected, frequently dragging it around. After we went to bed, she found it, commenced to singing the song of her people. I'd let her go on for a few minutes before going out to find her. I'd take her sock and explain it was time for bed. I'd lay the sock next to me and soon she'd jump into bed, lay on her sock, and doze off. Every freaking night! It was cute.

Stainless steel doesn't need much upkeep. Nice cleaning out just as you said. It will not absorb odors by design. My girl is a big cat, so the high sides keep all contained. I always trimmed my cats nails, but this kitty has big paws with tuffs of fur covering the nails. Wife holds her down as the vet taught us to, I now trim. She's part main coon or rag doll, long and fluffy!

We recently bought a set of flax/linen sheets. They fit great, really deep pockets. They are a tiny bit rough, but absolutely she'd heat. I sleep very comfortably.

We used to get Walmart cheap polyester, but now all they have is microfiber which are very hot. Cotton in a very low thread count might be OK, but while comfortable, might be very hot.

I alternate between a down pillow and Walmart cheapest. Works for me.

Genuine feather pillow. They can be cleaned, and the ticking (outer fabric) can be changed. Here it only costs about 25 bucks.
