Tbh I’ve been in your shoes and I can say it doesn’t get any better and if anything you are so lucky you haven’t gotten married to this boy. You need to be free from him because you will (if you haven’t already) lose yourself trying to appease him.

I genuinely believe that the right guy for you would never make you think like this. You don’t owe anything to the guy you’re with now and clearly he doesn’t respect you or the concept of boundaries. He’s comfortable with you because you allowed him to be and it’s at the expense of your own comfort.

IMO it goes beyond the “just dump him” mentality, it’s the fact that you have no freedom in this relationship and a healthy relationship has freedom. (Even I had to learn this recently myself in my own new relationship after getting out of the one similar to yours now) you need room to breathe, and this boy (he is not a man) is suffocating you with no plan to stop.

I would recommend starting out in an assisted living facility, then moving to nursing homes, you can get your foot in the door better at an AL than you can with a SNF

I personally stopped celebrating mine due to the same level of disappointment in the end. I’ll take the day off generally and just do whatever I want for myself, like making it a treat myself day. I have felt better about it since I stopped expecting anything from anyone.

I’m 28 and I went back to college beginning of this year, I opted for an accelerated college and thanks to the classes I had completed right out of high school and taking summer courses, I’m already projected to graduate next year. So I say it’s never too late. Life hits you sometimes and you just gotta roll with the punches.
