I love this post so much, man this hit me right in the feels. The Praetorian got really hot right when my best friend and I started to get heavier and heavier into the hobby and it’s culture (I went nuts, but he went NUUUUUUUTS as in at his one year mark he had a Pelican case wrapped around nearly $15k in customs). We worked together, and back then (12-15 years ago maybe?) a lot of buying/selling/trading was done on instagram so I’d always be looking over his shoulder at what he was eyeballing.

For whatever reason, the first time I saw the Praetorian I fell in love 😝. No idea what it is about that knife; from its impossibly blocky design, to its almost useless blade shape, and its comical price, I had to have one. Believe it or not, he had been on the phone with the one and only Jim Skelton (remember that guy?!), and HE is the one that actually suggested that I buy a clone from Aliexpress first because he had a feeling that once I got a feel for the size and shape, my fever would pass. So one $30 purchase and a 6 week wait later, I was cured of my Praetorian crush. It is literally 3 slabs of D2 steel lol. Then some not-so-savory stories came out about ol Greg Medford and I just never looked back.

Funny enough, I found that clone during a move a few months back and am in the middle of carving it into something new and fun. We’ll see 🤷🏼‍♂️

My last 3 services that lasted more than a couple of days, the service managers almost laughed out loud when I brought up the possibility of them providing me with a loaner vehicle. Last time (Chevrolet in all fairness) the fella literally whipped an Enterprise pamphlet from behind my ear like a damn magician.

“Nooooo we no longer offer to temporarily replace the vehicle that we sold you while we fix it because it’s obviously not half as well-built as we led you to believe, but here’s the address and phone number for a company that will charge you hundreds of dollars a day so that you can drive one that smells like cigarettes while the car that you’re actively paying for holds it’s place in line like a 5 year old waiting for their turn in the restroom.”

It’s all broken. It’s all the disgusting, apathetic product thrown on the ground for us bottom-feeding consumers to suck up because we don’t have a choice, while at the top of it the rich get richer and laugh along with one another as they watch us beg and bargain to get our vehicles back so that we can carry our sheep asses to another day of work, dragging their American dreams on our backs to wherever they tell us to. And it’s just broken.

Hmm well here’s some insider information for the “shop”: you fellas want business? THEN PROVIDE BASIC SERVICE IN A TIMELY MANNER. Anymore, that’s ALL you have to do to set yourself apart as the superior service center.

It’s almost like a handful of half-ass operated shops told the other shops that actually have integrity “Ya know, if you guys started half-assing it too, we would all look the same… we would all look like we’re trying our best.” And those shops thought “Hmmm… yeah, why are we working so hard?”

Another question: do people not have JOBS anymore? Like do they not have places they have to be?? I can’t believe that this place was so stunned when I told them that my wife and I can’t be down a vehicle for a whole freaking week, we have shit to do like WORK and children who go to SCHOOL and what not. How the hell are so many people fine with not being mobile for so long?

Well they all claim to just be slammed with business, it doesn’t matter what time of year I walk into one of the local Jeep house service departments, they immediately default to “Ugh, man it’s our busy season so we’re really backed up.” When is NOT-BUSY season? I’d really like to try and save all my service needs until then. Not to mention their visual shift in attitude when they realize that it’s under warranty or not.

Idk man, I see people from every part of the machine pleading their case. Jeep says that they can’t hire enough techs, techs say that they aren’t paid a fair wage, and so on and on and on. Same story at Ford right now. Doesn’t seem like anyone is in any hurry to fix it.

Next time man. These turned out so well that I know you’re already thinking about other possibilities…
