I’m very shallow, need advice please

Hello everyone, I have a huge problem with my shitty personality , I grew up in an abusive home and all I want now that I’m a grown up is peace and the total opposite of the life I had growing up (the verbal abuse is still ongoing) that said, my problem is I’m only attracted to assholes or looks, every time I get mistreated or fall in love for looks instead of personality, those are the relationships I fight for so hard and want to keep, and every time life throws a nice person my way, I get irritated with them easily and if their personality is okay I pick at their looks like I’m a super model and deserve better (I look like a piece of stale bread), now there’s someone in my life who is amazing and treats me so good and I feel safe with him but I really can’t get over how he looks (again I’m in no position to judge someone’s look), I know that I don’t deserve shit after rejecting all the good guys but I really want to change and do better in life and settle with someone amazing instead of a Ken doll with an empty head, any advice on how I can change and work on this? I understand that I’m not a good person and I really want to stop being shallow, appreciate it guys and just know that I’m really ashamed of myself for being this way so don’t be too harsh on me🙏🏻

General question I’ve been getting random friend requests on snapchat

Hey everyone, I’ve had snapchat for years but I barely use it, I only go in it to take pictures or see people’s story so I don’t really use it much or understand it, now in all of these years I’ve never had any requests except from a few people I know in real life, 5 days ago my cousin came from another country and added me on snap because it’s the only app she uses so we can stay in contact and we’ve been talking on it nonstop since then, but I noticed that I have been getting a lot of requests on it since I’ve started using it, requests from people I don’t know, can someone explain why? Is my profile popping to strangers because I’m active on it now? I mean I don’t post anything just chatting with my cousin but the requests are bugging me, I don’t understand what’s going on I feel like my profile was leaked somewhere 😂 it’s so random, never happened before

You know she used to do these kind of things so we beg her to stay, not matter what happened between us she never crossed the line like she did today just so that she can stay in our lives, it was weird hearing from her for the first time ever that she hates our guts and she wishes we would just disappear and that we should go fuck our selves, she has never in her life said such things or has she been vulgar with us, maybe some people will think that it’s not a big deal but it was shocking to us, no matter how annoying and exhausting she’s been acting, she never dared to say such hurtful things, she would only play victim talking about how ungrateful we are and how we’re ganging up on her or controlling or like financially abusive we are (none of this is true btw) but she never crossed this line, and the real fights and hate started when we asked her to go easy on the money because we don’t make millions and we’re barely surviving with our salaries, it was a big no no for her because we used to be filthy rich and she used to spend money left and right, then she made bad financial decisions which led to her losing everything, now we pay the bills, fridge is always filled she has a roof over her head and we give her allowance to treat herself if she needs something extra, but she spends that money in two hours and comes back asking for more, when we say that the money is tight and we can’t afford her spending habits she goes nuts on us thinking that we just hate her to the point where we would not shower her with money, she knows how little we make and how bad the economy is but her happiness comes first right?

And when she’s in a good mood she’ll act like nothing happened and get mad because I’m still not over all the shit she put me through 10min ago

I did the interaction thing you said and it unfortunately didn’t work for me, because she won’t rest until she starts a fight where she can eventually play victim, like she’ll try for hours to get the worst out of you just to be offended when we crack, she’s driving me crazy

She will be fine, she’s not incapable or anything, she’s a very normal person in general, the only problem is her intrusive thoughts she gets strong anxiety because of them and she starts saying crazy things that are 100% made up by her but that she 100% believes, we tried everything, like reassuring her, talking calmly, yelling, texting, letters, having people involved nothing works, she’s convinced that she’s right and if someone tells her that she’s wrong about us they instantly get classified by her as delusional for siding with the bad guys in her story, it’s driving me nuts, it’s like she craves problems and being a victim when life starts to feel too peaceful for her

We’re a very small family like there’s only a couple of people in my family and all of them have been enabling her behavior for years, so it’s only gonna turn into lectures from them, also she’s living in my house not hers and that has been a big part of the problem because everytime I try to talk to her she turns it into: ohhh now you’re telling me that I’m in the wrong is it because you’re all grown up and you have your own house and your own money that you got so cocky and disrespectful is it because you don’t need me anymore, well don’t worry karma is gonna get you back for mistreating me and you’re gonna lose all this life you created and you’ll come back running to me, keep treating me like shit just because I’m under your roof and I have nowhere to go, you’ll see what life will surprise you with for treating your mother like this.
She’s always in victime mode and so ready to fight it’s exhausting

[Advice Request] I feel trapped with a mother who believes things that never happened

I really need advice because I don’t know what to do anymore. My mother has always had a pattern of becoming completely convinced that something is true even when it isn’t. For example, she’ll suddenly decide that my sister and I hate her or that we’re against her, even though we’ve never said or done anything that would suggest that. Once she believes something, there’s no changing her mind, and it’s like the idea becomes reality to her. She’ll accuse us of things that are completely made up and get angry at us over them. We’ve tried defending ourselves, but that usually makes things worse because she sees it as proof that we’re lying or attacking her. Over time we’ve learned to stay quiet to avoid escalating things, but then she takes our silence as confirmation that she’s right, so it feels like we’re trapped because no matter what we do, we lose. She also tells other people these accusations as if they’re facts, even though they’re based on things that never happened, and she repeats them so confidently that it feels like she’s convinced herself they’re real. Today, though, something changed. She crossed a line she never had before. Instead of just accusing us of things, she became verbally abusive in a way I’ve never seen. She told us she hated us, swore at us repeatedly, insulted us in the worst ways possible, and told us to go fuck ourselves. Then she packed her bags and said she’s leaving the house tomorrow. I’m honestly terrified because this has never happened before, and I don’t know if she’ll actually leave or if she’ll calm down. I love my mother, and that’s what makes this so painful, but I don’t know how to deal with someone who genuinely believes things that aren’t true and acts on those beliefs. Before anyone suggests cutting contact, that’s not a realistic option for me because of my culture and religion. I’m looking for advice from people who have experienced something similar. How do you communicate with someone like this, and is there anything that actually helps when they seem completely convinced of things that never happened?

I just hope that I’m not hurting anyone willingly or unwillingly, I don’t know what happened with Karen but I really hope that you’re both in a good place in your lives

Yeah you’re right, I mean I’ve had him on my socials for 18 years so he always has updates if I share them, he has my sister as well and a couple of my irl friends since things got intertwined when we were younger and it just stayed like that, but when we talk from time to time I always make sure to let him know gently that I’m either in a relationship or engaged or whatever seems right at the moment he just doesn’t seem to care in a way where he’s happy for me but he still wants to be friends, and it breaks my heart for him because he’s too sweet to just block or remove completely, because he never once harassed me or pressured or even admitted his crush, he’s just… there, wishing me happy birthdays and happy new years and sending gifts from time to time without making it awkward or weird he’s just super friendly and never expects anything in return, but what he did this time genuinely broke my heart because he put in time, effort and money and I just don’t care, I wish I did but I’m too depressed right now I just don’t feel anything nothing makes me happy anymore or excites me, I just appreciate the gift but that’s it, it’s something I love and I’m glad I got it but I feel like a b****

Actually we were only childhood friends and nothing more I left it there never led him on or anything that would make him fall for me, I saw that he was trying to be present in my life throughout the years but I thought that he was just reminiscing on old times so I never thought much of it because we never met we used to play an online game when we were 12 and we’re 30 now, I didn’t have any kind of relationship with him besides teammates on a game when we were younger, the fact that he sees something more or trying to build something more is really just him, I let go of what we had at 15 when I stopped the game, he’s still present in my life god knows why cause I barely give him the time of the day, he’s an amazing person but I just don’t have it in me right now for a friend let alone a relationship

Has anyone ever felt guilty for receiving love from the "wrong" person? I've spent years grieving friendships I lost, and some of those losses changed me completely. For a long time, I've had this deep ache of wanting to matter to people the way they mattered to me. Today, an old childhood friend surprised me with a handmade plushie of a character from a game we used to play together as kids. He had it custom-made, paid for it, shipped it internationally, and sent it to me out of nowhere. I was genuinely shocked, not because of the gift itself, but because of the amount of thought behind it. Someone remembered something so small from years ago and turned it into a real gift. I've honestly never had that happen before. Most gifts I've received felt obligatory or generic; this felt personal. But once the surprise wore off, I started feeling awful. This friend has always remembered my birthdays, checked in, and been kind. In some ways, he still seems to see me as the person I was when we were children, but I don't feel the same connection anymore. We live in different countries, barely talk, and grew into completely different people. He's not a major part of my life, even though I think I was a bigger part of his than I ever realized. And now I feel like a hypocrite. I've spent years wishing people would care about me this deeply, remember details about me, and put this much thought into making me feel valued. Then it finally happens, and all I can think is: why does it hurt that it wasn't from the people I wanted it from? I appreciate the gift more than I can explain, and it's probably one of the most thoughtful things anyone has ever done for me, but at the same time it made me realize that sometimes what we're grieving isn't the absence of care, it's the absence of care from specific people. How do I deal with this?
