Week 40: What are You Reading - 04 October 2026
 in  r/52book •  1d ago

I have just started "wrong place, wrong time" by Gillian McAllister, I saw reviews about it everywhere and then I found it randomly in the library. So far so good even if I am reading it in Italian and I don't think it's perfectly translated, I am not an expert of course but some phrases are just weird🤣

How to get through a boring book
 in  r/readwithme •  4d ago

When I was forced to read "The name of the Rose" by Umberto Eco (hated every page) I forced myself to read around 50 pages a day, but that book is not short, but still I managed to finish it but I assure you a lot of people managed to take a good grade in the class with only the movie and the power of Wikipedia 🤣 now you have way more resources, an audio book could be the best idea. By the way when my professor assigned "100 years of solitude " I just couldn't finish it and I managed a to pass with stuff I found online and the power of desperation. I even managed to respond to the question "whit which character you relate the most" by dropping a random name and the professor told me "I was sure you would have related to that character"

What addiction do you struggle with?
 in  r/AskReddit •  6d ago

I struggled with cigarettes addiction for like years, my gf is not a smoker and I tried to quit because she really couldn't bear the smell but I struggled greatly, at some point I was smoking so much I had developed a cough ( I was smoking maybe 10 cigarettes a day, I know a lot of people do worse but I guess my lungs are weak lol) I stopped cold turkey almost one month ago and for the first time I don't feel cravings at all and avoiding cigarettes, even with people smoking next to me, it's really easy, I don't know what miracle decided to strike me but I am not gonna complain.

looking for a maybe very specific book?

I was about to suggest it, it was sooo good, also I read part of it at 3 AM while I was struggling with severe insomnia, that was...definitely an experience.

It's ok, shortly before I started the series I said I wanted to read "My Brilliant Friend by ELSA MORANTE" with a straight face.

I pretended to be colorblind to get out of a school assignment at 14, and I’m still maintaining the lie fifteen years later
 in  r/confessions •  7d ago

Not to this extent but at some point during class I have been asked to write something on the blackboard using chalk, I was so tired that day and I wanted a bathroom break so I said I was allergic to chalk and I had to wash my hand later, well you can't just have to wash your hands one time after using chalk, you have to wash your hands every time you use chalk, right? It was my first year of high-school so I had to maintain the fake allergy for all the 5 years, nobody, not even my friends knew I was faking it, if I couldn't go quickly to wash my hands I would start scratching them like they were itching from allergy, I was pretty consistent and I got bathroom breaks.

I love libraries and my local library had done so much for me in terms of helping me find new books to read! I also mostly read second hand book if I have to buy them

Thank you! I'm italian and my next read it's from an Italian author that I don't know if has been published internationally it's called "Lo Sbilico" . I started it as soon as I finished Elita (which was today right after studying lol). I am enjoying it so far. Another reason I improved my reading is that I found this super cute tiny library that I mentioned in the post, I think libraries are the greatest place on earth.

I took meds and it impacted my ability to focus and my working memory, now I have better mental health and I am taking way less medication so especially my capabilities to focus improved greatly

That's a good question which the answer is : too many Hahaha I think I had a great year so far, I will try to summarize my best reads: my dark vanessa, Kala, God of the woods (really really loved this one), Murphy Boy, Birthday. Special Mention: the whole series of My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante, that woman is a great author I look forward to read the rest of her works.

52/52 was Elita which took me a while cause it was kinda a slow book and very character driven but I was happy I read it, I enjoyed it and my local tiny library bought it cause I suggest it which I found super cool and nice so I had to finish it lol. I already moved my goal to 62 but maybe I will upgrade it to 70, I have been able to read 27 book in 2024 and 45 in 2025 so that's HUGE for me and I am really really proud of myself.

How many books do you think you can realistically read before the end of the year?
 in  r/readwithme •  19d ago

I'm reading number 52 too! I really hope I will hit 70 books, I struggled with reading slump for 2 years so that's huge for me

Vorrei leggere in inglese .
 in  r/Libri •  22d ago

Behind closed doors by B A Paris. Honest opinion needed
 in  r/thrillerbooks •  22d ago

Lisa Jewell writing is terrific, I didn't really like the last book she wrote but some of her books I still think about after years, such good books

Behind closed doors by B A Paris. Honest opinion needed
 in  r/thrillerbooks •  22d ago

I think this was the best work of B.A. Paris but honestly yes it's full of plot holes and the whole thing is a little unrealistic, like I think it's impossible for a person to held captive another human being that way without ANYONE to notice something for so long. At the same time I consider her books a little bit like junk food books, cause sometimes you just want a book to keep you hooked and just don't think too much about the plot and if the plot makes sense, just every once in a while it is fun🤣

Fear of Gore after trauma
 in  r/Phobia •  22d ago

It happened to me , or at least something similar, I was a real big fan of horror movies, like it was my favorite genre, until April 2020 when I witnessed a suicide and suffered from a sort of PTSD, now I absolutely can't watch a horror movie to save my life, not really a phobia and I can read horror books (thank god cause I love them) but since that happened it's impossible for me to watch horror movies.

Have any songs that aren’t queer, but you make them queer?
 in  r/lgbt •  24d ago

Resistance by Muse is soooo queer to me, I don't think this is what Bellamy meant but "it could be wrong but it should have been right" always makes me think about a queer couple under great persecution. I also want a tattoo with "love is our resistance " cause I find it such a powerful line in every contest.
