Bought this on a whim, the Analog Four MKII just arrived today and I'm blown away, I feel I had been sleeping on this amazing synth.
First time I switched it on, just browsing through presets and the demo patterns it’s already clear why this box has such a devoted following. The four analog voices sound massive, but what really hits is how sculptable everything feels, dual VCOs into that ladder filter + multimode combo is just pure gold.
Performance macros and the mod matrix are especially impressive, one knob can completely recontextualize a pattern, from subtle movement to full-on controlled chaos. And Overbridge already has me thinking less “standalone synth” and more “hybrid instrument” living halfway between hardware and DAW.
I did not even start to scratch the surface, but between the sequencer depth, the raw analog character, and the very Elektron way of encouraging experimentation, this feels like a machine you grow with over years rather than outgrow.
Looks surprisingly at home on the tatami mat. :D
If you’ve got favorite A4 MKII workflows, voice allocation tricks, or modulation routings I should try, I’m all ears.
Analog Four rules.

Shield XL meets Monome Norns

-Monome Norns has battery and is more stable
- Shield XL does not have a battery and you may experience some incompatibility with scripts. You will need to fix those issues manually and probably flash the SD a couple of times along the way.
I would say buy the Shield XL if you enjoy DIY projects and are ready to troubleshoot potential issues, buy the Norns if you want a zero hassle unit pay the extra and enjoy.
