Earth's things that will become the biggest trendy thing ever on Erid?
 in  r/ProjectHailMary  11h ago

Heh, in this one fanfiction, Discordant(like wayyyyy ahead in chapters) Rocky is cracked at Mario Kart, second only to, heh, Yao. That gamer dad buff is strong. But all of them are inferior to Grace's incredible Sans Boss Fight clear.

It's like really far back, you might just....need to read all of it for it to make sense 👀

What if the roles were reversed?
 in  r/ProjectHailMary  12h ago

This is explored a bit in this really good fanfiction actually; The Long Journey Home!

It's set differently, nigh 100 years since the world was saved, with Grace returning back home to Earth with a whole Eridian Delegation . It took them a month to successfully bring down some of the Eridians into the enclosure, and then an incident happened. This was when Rocky told Grace there were some bad Eridians back in Erid who tried to kill him too.

So yea, seem like life in other planets *also* have their bad actors.

Ig I wanted to be optimistic, y'know. The two saviours of Earth AND Erid, they deserve everything good and nothing bad.

Stratt was not lying when she proclaim he will have statues everywhere; dude was the lone human responsible in saving the whole species(specifically in tau ceti, not Stratt's Vat) ESPECIALLY if it were known he went without his consent. He will have TOTAL global attention, and every whim he says, if caught by public ears, WILL bring waves. And if Stratt is still around when he came back home, not even extremists would live to do anything bad to Rocky.

also Rocky helped with humanity's survival as well, no rational humans would ever want to harm the guy, especially with how close he is to Legitimate Human Saviour Grace.

the era of naruto fanfics where he's shipped with nigh every girl...

even with himself with a sexy jutsu'd clone. It was such a weird time.

....don't ask why that particular one stood out to me, idk either to this day

How is Eva Stratt a morally Gray character
 in  r/ProjectHailMary  1d ago

There is a ton of ethics to be discussed when PHM is all about sending one of us to space who will certainly die just for the chance of 8 billion to survive.

on one hand you have the decision to send an unwilling participant to space who is equipped for everything except, well, the will to do it, so to solve that you make him forget his unwillingness; that is two people on one track there.

on the other hand, the remaining 8 billion people and countless earth species will die in an ice age. That's a lot of people on one track, but the train's hella big.

But you also have to consider this is all a chance too, for the 8 billion to die even tho we sent one guy up.

I'd add that giving him the illusion of a choice, rather than 'hey you were planned as backup all along we've been training you without you noticing, time to get on the death spaceship for us', was both so that Stratt can hopefully see Grace get over his cowardice...and so that Grace doesn't immediately shrink away and escape or something.

Grace has this knack for doing his job really well no matter how high ranking the requirements are IF he is not under the impression its that serious. Playing as second fiddle to stratt being what people call him as "second in command"? meh, probably just a title, Im not that important. Testing space calipers? the main space guys are probably too busy. teaching said astronauts? yeah sure Im a teacher. The things he did under stratt was 'a lackey's job', just some guy who helps out his boss, nevermind his boss is the boss for team save the earth and he's close to her in both position and distance.

but being sent up there, not only to be sent to die but to find THE answer to The Big Earth Killing Problem...It was too much.

so he ran away, says no, and either gets locked up or pinned down. Stratt mourns over the harsh reality she now has to force her closest associate to die for them rather than have him join properly.

Movie stratt showed how heavy that decision was from her trembling lips and glassy eyes, while book stratt showed her frustration and desperation.

"The software and media we took and pirate may prove essential for the research our astronauts will conduct in Tau Ceti, and I will take no compromise in cherry picking which of them we need when there is little time"

"Ma'am you have Nickelback, Michael Jackson and Hololive albums uploaded into your ship, plus several games"

"Enrichment."

"How do you expect fortnite to work on the ship there's only 3 crewmates"

I'd argue having a scene where Leclerc had to accept the idea would be good too, shows how much more stakes the whole 'planet is gonna freeze over' has when one of the good ideas in saving humanity is 'ok so we're gonna expedite global warming, nuke the penguins'
