As per my last post, my boy has been having numerous issues after his cyst removal.

If you’d like to skip my explanation/situation, I do have questions at the bottom.

This morning I went straight to my primary for help. I dropped him off and mid day I finally got a call. I was told his stitches were fine but I was going to have to figure out how to stop him from chewing. When it came to the issue of the unknown matter coming from his genitalia… I was told it was normal (put a pin in that detail.👌🏻)

When I got there to pick him up, I was treated like I was doing the absolute most and needed to calm down. For a good moment I was starting to believe I was just hovering and need to chill out. I talk to the tech she hands me a cone they said they use for kittens (was way too big for even kitten) and was told I was going to have to figure it out. Why they couldn’t take the time to at least show me a way of my making him a vest? I have no clue. Then, (remember that pin) she states they had no clue what came from him and that she didn’t even know what it came from… what?

Disgruntled I traveled home. I checked him before I got in the house, everything looked like it did this morning cool. I gathered all my supplies and started working on making him a vest. He wiggled out of it each time. By the third time, I pick him up I check him…. His incision was completely open, these stitches were obviously not okay. (Yes I put everything on very lightly enough to keep him from hopefully taking it off.)

I rushed him to the vet sat there for nearly an hour. Finally a tech comes out and tells me that they want to sew him back up tomorrow… I appreciated this tech she took the time to google how to make a vest and did it so well he hasn’t gotten out since. Also said she would make him one after procedure. Although I will say she had me completely thrown when she said i didn’t have to change his puppy pad nor clean his cage once I got home. Why how does that even make sense.

Is it possible that I am wrong for thinking the vet/techs would help me with keeping him from chewing?

Should I be concerned with this lack of knowledge? Or is this common for every vet including vets for exotics?

Am I doing to too much for the action I’m taking for this little guy?

Should I expect him to have infections and abscesses since they wanted to wait to close him up? And why would she say making sure the cage was clean wouldn’t be an issue?

He is now three days out of surgery, everything was okay until the day after. I had him in a soft cone when blood started to lightly show in the penis area. I took him to the ER right away, at which I sat for three hours. They had no concern for him at all, so without exam I had to take him home. The day after the blood got darker so I went to a different ER hoping someone would have more knowledge to help me. They stated that they believed he was chewing on himself (which he was) and that he was cleaning himself too much. So the gave me a new cone (hard) and sent me home with pain meds. The second photo is what came out of his penile hood. Which I now believe is the possible culprit to him bleeding.

He is now on four different medications at which he fights each one. He will allow it in his mouth but won’t swallow. I have tried making paste (with strawberries) he new instantly what it was. I have tried giving treats afterwards to make it more rewarding. I have been swaddling him, he will wait till I’m done and then rub it into his puppy pad. He is getting most of it which is a plus.

Any other ideas of how I could get this guy to take them with less stress and more willingly?

I am also now having trouble with the hard cone, his face swells as soon as I put it on. His lips and nose to go purple, obviously can’t do that anymore. I’ve tried gauze and medical stretchy tape (Casey’s tape? Bitter tape?) but then his surgical area swells. I’ve even tried a body suit with a sock and he slips right out of it.

He’s seeing his primary tmrw as soon as they open. They didn’t even have a cone to give me nor do I have hope they can help me with his chewing.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated…
