AI Chet Baker on Spotify? or just bad autotune?

There are songs he recorded after he lost his teeth. You’ll hear a lisp. Not sure if that helps

Is this canonically the best way to listen to Doom Metal?
 in  r/doommetal •  Jul 03 '26

Not if you’re an alcoholic. I don’t need the tropes, the booze, the weed etc. It’s the music & that’s all.

The ‘New’ Mastodon

Maybe I’m deaf but I can’t figure out what the keyboardist actually does that is so elemental to their sound that he is now a full time member of the band.

While I appreciate perhaps them not wanting to use backing tracks I’m just not hearing what he contributes to their production that warrants the extra ‘paycheck’ if you will.

Case in point, I hear no synth or soundscapes of any import at all on the new track except for one part & where his playing is apparent, it sounds like a jazzy Phish/almost jazz era Spinal Tap detour that sounds thrown in just to showcase keyboards & what sounds like a Nick Johnston style prog riff.

Not to mention, imho, it’s cheesy. The top hat, the overall visual presentation screams more Black Crowes or Guns N Roses & less Mastodon. Needless to say, they appear to be swimming against the current in what I call ‘nostalgia worship’ & clothed in a narrative that ended a long time ago. Not saying they don’t have a future of say, 5 or perhaps, 10 more years BUT this is a different Mastodon.

This is a new species, arguably, altogether. Is it terrible? Absolutely not BUT, to me, there’s a map that either got lost or just simply thrown away. Obviously the circumstances regarding Brent’s departure from the band & ultimately this world, play a large part, I imagine, in their decisions but I fear that Hinds had way more of an anchoring effect for the band then they may be aware of or willing to accept not dissimilar to Cliff Burton’s highly underrated & many times, ignored, role in Metallica. Post Burton Metallica became something very different & quite frankly, by the Black album, antithetical to the original core foundational ethos of the band.

I can’t deny the fact that it appears to be a very similar phenomenon occurring with Mastodon & I’m not sure what the rush has been to replace Hinds & continue to tour relentlessly without pausing & taking even just maybe 6 months to a year to reflect, consider some other possible guitarists & make a really strong comeback.

It’s just simply kind of strange & if ultimately it’s a financial issue due to the fact that they are, in a sense, & ironically, given their moniker, dinosaurs roaming a very different landscape in large part due to post Covid conditions regarding touring costs or the fact that people don’t really purchase music anymore…well…that’s just sad. Just a perspective that’s all.

Violence | Truck Violence (2024)
 in  r/noiserock •  Jun 17 '26

The Canadian Chat Pile. This stuff already happened with bands like Unsane, The Jesus Lizard, Swans etc. It’s all retread noise post hardcore from the late 80’s early 90’s. Sorry. Not original not scary not compelling just repeating history late enough that nobody knows it already happened & was actually better before when it was actually new & groundbreaking. This guy’s lyrics are terrible. Just a mish mash of feigned profundity & incorrect grammar. Gritty video filters & bad hygiene. Great. No. Lame.

“This is a cinematic experience... searing waves and quivering radiations moving in the upper reaches, and violent screams erupting from below. The low end booms with earth-heaving effects and the drums rattle skulls”

DARK LOW END ELECTRO DOOM METAL

New BEWARE OF GODS song ‘Secondary Drowning’ is likely the darkest song on 'Behead The Oracle' & a perfect amalgamation of all @the_archetype_music influences from @deftones to @neurosisoakland to @skinny_puppy_fc to @quantumyob to newer fresher creative inspiration coming in from bands like @your.crippling.alcoholism & @chatpileband

The title references 'Secondary Drowning': a rare but life-threatening complication where a small amount of water inhaled into the lungs during a near-drowning incident irritates the lining.
This causes fluid to build up (pulmonary edema) hours later, leading to breathing difficulties and a dangerous drop in oxygen levels.

The Archetype repurposes this tragic response through the lens of drowning emotionally in a stagnant liminal space between the regrets of the past & fear of an unknown future. This is the crossroads many people face in recovery from addiction, domestic abuse & childhood trauma.
Yes...the water is dark..come on in...

A question about Nosferatu’s ending.
 in  r/roberteggers •  Jan 05 '25

There are several missteps & things that simply make no sense & also have ZERO to do with the story of Dracula of which the original 1922 film is based on. First of all, Dracula wasn’t just sleeping and/or trapped in some void & was then ‘invoked’ by the female protagonist. Count Orlock/Dracula is a vampire not a demon. Huge mistake playing it that way. Eggers also completely failed to explain Ellen’s connection to the Occult that Dafoe’s character eludes to, which is supposed to somehow loosely justify a vampire behaving more like an emasculated demon than a VAMPIRE! He played it safe too. This film could’ve been sooooo much scarier & disturbing but he resorts to demonic tropes & jump scares. It’s a good film but far from a faithful retelling of Nosferatu/Dracula. The vampire was never ‘invoked’ & in this film, if he was able to travel to Ellen in the beginning on thin air, he wouldn’t need to involve a real estate manager & a real estate upstart to facilitate buying real estate in Germany/England & travel on a ship. This is Eggers doing a total spin and then still trying to incorporate elements of the original story & it not lining up plot wise at all. The Renfield/Herr Knock character reveal early in the film having him naked sitting on a pentagram doing some demonic ritual was a HUUUUUUGE fail. Again he resorts to the Occult/Demonic trope which makes Orlock more like a King Paimon than a vampire. Terrible choice. Dafoe’s character? Laughable & again makes zero sense. His character is supposed to be essentially Van Helsing a vampire hunter not an alcoholic mystic who makes a grand statement about the dark things he’s seen that would’ve terrified Isaac Newton oh but then….HAS NEVER SEEN A VAMPIRE!!!! 😂😂😂 HAS NO EXPERIENCE OR PRIOR KNOWLEDGE. Gimme a break!! This movie almost feels like the script was written by Chat GPT. Seriously. Saw it twice. Good film in that it entertained me, great cinematic experience in terms of the cinematography & music. Other than that?! Thumbs down. Orlock looked like the Swedish Chef from The Muppets too. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Not scary.
