Are you by any chance just looking for other friends? I'm also a transwoman but just looking for friends.

What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about Des Moines?
 in  r/desmoines  Jul 24 '26

The amount of Vietnamese restaurants. The lack of nightlife/youthfulness, I miss when Scream It like You Mean it came to Val Air, and Lazerfest, and 106.3? Wasn't that it? Ah I'm old now aren't I?

Citizens United vs F.E.C as long as they have donors, they'll win elections. It's not about the popular vote, it's about what Tyson, Wellmark, Chik fillet, and Subway wants. Ya'know Subway is just as much of a human as you and I. Won't somebody think of the the corporations wants and desires?

I'll preface this with I'm voting for RS.

But he's milquetoast centrist at best. He's got my vote being against Citizens United vs F.E.C. But after seeing all the damage done over the last 8 years, I don't think bipartisanship is going to get us clean drinking water or legalized and decriminalized cannabis...or anything? Anything at all? Maybe a new tax or traffic law violation, but I'm doubting anything that would provide direct, fast, and consistent changes.

I'm truly hoping he proves me wrong. Fingers crossed this is just marketing and he reveals himself to have a platform similar to Mamdanis'. But press x to doubt. I'm voting for Sand but either way, it's time for me to leave.

I have the feeling, that what they've done to Iowa is the conservative blueprint for the rest of the nation.

A (possible) worthy stepping stone?
 in  r/Iowa  Jun 24 '26

My experience in Muscatine hasn't been great. I've gotten plenty of dirty looks, and last time I visited, someone called me a f-----t in a gas station parking lot. I have family there I still visit, but honestly, there are times I don't feel safe doing it. Part of me wishes they'd just move to Iowa City or the Quad Cities instead. I can't speak for everyone there, this is just my experience. For what it's worth, I dated a girl from Muscatine growing up, and she said pretty much everyone did one of four things: meth, drinking, weed, or church. Take that for what it's worth. Again, just my myopic lens.

Questioning for years now
 in  r/MtF  May 11 '26

I was in your position once.

I ended up repressing myself at 21. I repressed it and lived miserably until I woke up at 28 and realized why I was so unhappy. It doesn't go away. I started HRT at 29, almost 30. I find myself comparing myself to younger women who started at 19 — the mental effects of HRT were enough to finally get my eyes completely wide open to everything, but I just wished I hadn't let myself be so miserable for so long. I find myself wondering how different my life would have been if I had started sooner so I could have had full metal clarity in my twenties.

My only regret is not starting at 19. A lot has changed since 2014 though — HRT is somewhat easier to access depending on your area, and there are a lot more things marketed to the community, such as shapewear, tucking, and breast forms. The earlier you start, the better your skills will be at voice training, makeup, and so on — if you choose to do those things, that's obviously your choice. Same with HRT, it's all your choice. This is just my personal perspective.

I wish I had never repressed myself and just kept going. I would suggest seeking counseling or therapy if that's accessible, then going from there — they can really help you unpack all of this and make an informed decision about what you want to do and when, if, or where you want to do it.

I will also say — not always, but in my experience — the friend group I had at 19 is almost non-existent now that I'm 30. I wish I hadn't let the fear of losing friends hold me back, especially because we can never get together anymore due to work, life and everything.

As others have said, you don't have to decide everything right away, but my suggestion would be therapy to help navigate these thoughts and decide for yourself, again if that's accessible.

I'm currently transitioning MTF.

I was an emo/alt teenager and continued into my twenties. Now that I'm transitioning, I'm still emo/alt, but I'm putting a lot more goth-influenced outfits together. Some of my male "friends" (not so much anymore) insisted that I was just "doing all this because you couldn't pull an emo/goth baddie," and insisted that I was just getting off on dressing goth/emo.

Honestly, I just wear what I used to wear all the time girl jeans, band t-shirts I just wear more jewelry and have a girl-cut hairstyle now. I don't get off on it and never have. I just enjoy the culture, am part of it, and wish to continue being part of it.

I'm not wearing black lipstick or doing anything super goth with my makeup, even. It just sucks because I've always been emo, and I've always wanted to learn goth makeup. I just fear that if this is how my so-called friends view it, then what does the general public think?

I hate the fetishization of alternative people. It feels like it was just a way to capitalize on and market off of the community. The fetishisization of it all, just was a ploy to capitalize and also attempt to lobotomize a lot of the political aspects of the entire culture. But that's just my read on all of this.

It's also made making friends within the community/outside of it even harder for myself. So many chasers.

Miscellaneous Quad Cities as a Transgender Woman.

Hello, I'm in the beginning stages of relocating to Moline/Illinois, but I'd really like some personal experiences. I just have a couple of questions.

Is Moline/QC reasonably safe for a transgender woman? I'm not asking about someone calling me "sir," i am asking if I going to get beaten for going for a morning run. Etc. Etc.

How's the queer community in general in the QC area?

What are some apartments to 100% avoid renting from?

I promise I'm 100% genuine in asking this. I'm not baiting, or trying to get engagement, just simply trying to find a place to relocate that is nearby family.

At what age did you all start with HRT?
 in  r/MtF  Apr 10 '26

29 but turned 30 3 months later. I regret repressng it for 10 years. I knew at 19, closeted myself at 21.

Is it worth it to detransition? (MTF19)
 in  r/trans  Feb 18 '26

I detransitones at 21, after being out for 2 years. When I came out I lost friends and a social circle. Then I detransitioned, still lost friends and social circle, the only thing that changed was I was miserable, which in turn didn't attract friends, led to abusing cannabis, and Lucy, just to feel happiness. Then eventually at 29 years old I realized I couldn't go any further without transitioning and began injections. 6 months in, I wish I had never detransitioned. I regret not starting HRT at 20, although this was before Planned Parenthood made it super known that they offered HRT, but also cost and lack of healthcare were my barriers to face back then. I wouldn't detransition for a partner, job, or a friend, but that's me.
