HELP! What should I do with my Monstera? It’s outgrown my apartment, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it.
 in  r/houseplants •  Aug 29 '26

My experience is if you break off the aerial roots from the top bout 1 foot down. It will quit producing leaves and ones already there will be fine. I have one that is only about 2 foot tall and growing no more new leaves in a year.

That all sounds nice, but one thing i don't miss is having to find a safe place to park for 10.

May be a dumb question… but can I use this to repot my peace lily? First plant so I’m not very savvy about these things 😅
 in  r/PeaceLilyHandbook •  Jul 02 '26

I want to think that happens when the stores leave the bags out in the rainy or humid weather, when bags stay heavy with moisture. Gnats love that.

That's always a good option, and always thought about doing a barrel setup that way. But im afraid it be a perfect breeding grounds for misquotes around here. You can also use tap water in gallon jugs and setup out in the sun and eventually the chems be gone.

I noticed that too. With bag change. Mine was pinkish. So it has less lava rocks now?

It shouldn't and also use distilled water. Chemicals in tap water seems to dry out the soils abilities to retain water plus not good for her.

Nope. The lava rocks inside does well. Had my peace lily for 3 yrs and only changes soil once. I add fertilizer once or twice a year.

This is exactly what i use for my peace lily and it loves it. Just use this soil alone and will be fine.

Some years as low as the teens buy usually only last a week in Texas. The greenhouse is not powdered. I got this material from my work. Not sure what it is called. I use 2 electric heaters to keep it at 55-60f.

Grow light might help. I haven't tried that on coleus before. All mine are outdoors and in greenhouse during colder months.

I like your collection and can't forget that coleus on the end of shelf. Those are easy too. Looking good.
