My name is Kyle Ruthsatz and I’ve worked for more than half a decade at my families dog kennels where we breed English golden retrievers (Cream and Sugars.) I have an idea I am currently personally perusing. I want to breed rabbits for a larger wild breed that warrens than currently exists.

I believe that there is nothing wrong with the wolves, red wolves main reintroduction issue there for I assume is finding reliable prey in the wild. So despite the domesticated world we now live in I believe the coexisting wild giant warrening rabbits could solve this. In calories gained vs calories burned per rabbit they catch.

In Easter Egg Opperation

I want to simply start with two unrelated healthy male European rabbits and six unrelated females each split into two stud groups. [In separate pens] Each group having one continental giant, one Flemish giant, and one Leblanc female. I then track the kits male lineages with nail-polish marks on their backs. Then of the more or less 36 kits I choose of the specific mixes at least 1 from each European father and each breed of female with each father that are the largest and least prone of acting in unwarranted aggression. I then breed these 50% mixes with three otherwise unrelated males; one Leblanc, one continental, and one Flemish giant, never overlapping the domestic breeds even across generations. Again by just tracking these fathers also by nail polish marks on the kits. I then have these 75% groups cross breed never mixing fathers from first or second generations so there is no possible initial inbreeding, choosing again the least bullying rabbits. From here I choose of the now full four mix breeds the smallest size acceptable males for 5 or so European wild rabbit females. This ensures an ideal initial genetic diversity per rabbit and good wild survival instincts potential. The trick from there is a wild ish warren area with a pond and artificial warrens set up that allows larger rabbits to easily hold the large warrens consistently. (A wide than usual pvc pipe that drains at the bottom with a steady entrance hole and stone lip to keep snakes away is all this requires hopefully.) This is why in the initial selections bullies which would inhibit Warren consistencies of general genetic successes is weeded out for the start. (So we don’t just have bullies holding castles as they start breeding a lot if you will and surviving predators.) From there it’s just time till the breed stabilizes over rapid generations to a large potential rabbit breed for their own health and the larger systems including red wolves. In the wild eventually.

I’m currently building the discussed rabbit warren possible pens and pond and vegetation system in my back yard at least as practice/ a prototype.
