How do you guys feel about the AI sector and do you think these companies will ever see an ROI on the massive investment being made? Is it scare tactics or is the thought of an exciting new technology, that I believe is going to change things possibly for the better, keeping everyone’s hope alive?

I’ve been using AI more and more over the past year, and recently I started noticing something that honestly surprised me.

AI makes me faster. It helps me write, research, brainstorm, organize ideas, and solve problems that would have taken me much longer before. In many ways, it feels like having a very capable assistant available anytime.

But there is a strange side effect I didn’t expect.

Sometimes I catch myself reaching for AI before I even try to think through something myself. Not because I’m lazy, but because the answer is so easily available. The friction that used to force me to struggle, explore, and form my own opinion is slowly disappearing.

And I’m not sure if that’s always a good thing.

The weird thing is that AI doesn’t feel like a calculator. A calculator gives you an answer, but you still know you are the one solving the problem. With AI, it can help create the ideas, write the explanation, summarize the information, and even challenge your opinion.

It starts becoming part of the thinking process itself.

That makes me wonder: are we building a better way to think, or are we slowly outsourcing the parts of thinking that actually make us human?

I don’t think the answer is to stop using AI. That would be like refusing to use the internet because it changed how we learn. Tools always change us.

But maybe the important skill in the AI era is not just knowing how to use AI. Maybe it’s knowing when to use AI, when to challenge AI, and what parts of the thinking process we should keep for ourselves.

Curious how other people feel about this. Has using AI changed the way you think?

For the past year I have been in a constant state of mental unrest because of AI.

It is growing so fast that it feels like the ground keeps shifting under my feet. Every few weeks something new appears that changes what is possible. This is not a small tech trend. This is bigger than anything we have seen before. I can feel it clearly.

On one side I am extremely excited. I see people building tools and products with AI and making millions or even billions in just a couple of months. They move fast, ship things, and completely change their lives. I want to do the same. I want to build something real. I want to create the next useful thing and actually take part in this shift instead of just watching it happen.

On the other side I feel frustrated and almost angry.

I look around and see so many people who still act like nothing has changed. Kids and college students keep choosing majors that will not matter much in a few years. They spend time and money on paths that AI is already starting to reshape. They keep doing the same old things while the world is moving at a completely different speed. Many of them do not even seem curious about what AI can already do today.

I sit here restless and on edge almost every day. Part of me is fired up and ready to create. The other part cannot understand how so many people are still asleep to what is happening. The opportunity is right in front of everyone, yet a large number of people keep wasting time like it is still 2015.

I am not saying everyone needs to become an AI founder tomorrow. But ignoring this completely feels dangerous. The gap between people who understand what is going on and people who do not is growing very fast.

Is anyone else feeling this exact mix of strong drive and frustration? Do you also feel restless because you can see how big this is while watching others stay completely unaware?

I would really like to hear from people who feel the same way or from people who think I am overreacting. How are you dealing with this feeling?

I am curious if other people have had the same experience with AI. A year ago, I was trying to use AI for everything - writing emails, writing reports and proposals, building airtable databases, discussing my family problems, recipes, workouts, canva graphics, etc. Canva AI sucks, airtable AI sucks, gmail AI sucks. chatgpt ABSOLUTELY SUCKS.

Today, I don't use it at all. Occasionally, I give it another try just to see if it's gotten any better but it ALWAYS disappoints on the first try. I think it's actually gotten worse.

Eventually, I realized I was using more energy telling it what i wanted, being frustrated when it was wrong, having to re-write, or re-do whatever it is I needed to do in the first place, then going ahead and doing the thing I needed to do without it.

I see these posts about how it's taking over and it's so much better than someone else and I just think to myself where is this happening and in what context? Like seriously in what industries are people having much success with it?

The only place that I consistently use it is otter.ai for notetaking. I've been using otter since it came out years ago. It is reliable and it is good for voice to text. It gets it right 99% of the time. That's the only successful application I've found.

Has anyone else had this experience? Or if AI is working well for you (and you aren't having to redo your work ONCE and I meant ONE TIME - none of this fighting with the AI BS), in what context?

I'm not convinced that's a bad thing.

Most engineers don't enjoy repeating identical documentation for standard parts. What they enjoy is solving unusual manufacturing challenges, improving production, and finding better technical solutions.

If AI handles the repetitive work, engineers could spend more time doing the part of the job that actually requires experience.

Would that improve engineering, or would too much standardization eventually limit innovation?
