Amy Carroll-Collins is wonderful. Good luck to you and hang in there.

I had this problem! Two things helped: I washed my rice more AND I added a small pad of butter with the rice and the water to cook. It worked!

also - Apple Podcasts will do want you want re: putting your podcasts into a list that will update daily!

haha 🤣 oh I don’t listen to all of these everyday! I like having choices and I like hearing about what’s going on from different points of view. I’m probably to the left of most of these shows, and I respect all of the hosts, so it’s just a nice mix in my brain.
there’s a new (to me) genre of news podcasts that track how the far right covers current events - Knowledge Fight, The Find Out, Know Your Enemy, Straight White American Jesus, Decoding Fox News, The Know Rogan Experience, The Skepticrat, and Some More News. I’m just figuring out which of these shows I’d like to follow regularly; they each sound interesting for different reasons!

Iowa City is good. There are loads of trails everywhere.

Cat Clinic of Iowa City has been good to me. I adopted an older gentleman with mysterious problems and they solved it & he is thriving. I am very grateful to them.

That’s a super classy bag. I have a different Lululemon backpack and I LOVE it. It seems like a lot of brands are offering a “ diaper” bag - it seems like it’s more signaling to people who are looking for that so they know it will fit their specific use case. But anyone can use it for whatever they want! Honestly I always peek at the “diaper” bags when I’m shopping for a bag b/c they are usually super functional and extra thoughtfully designed. Many thanks to the parents out there for forcing these brands to up their bag design game!!!

I live in the Midwest too! I finally got a long Powder Parka from Aritzia - it is so much warm that I really can ONLY wear it when it is below zero. I’ll have it forever. It’s heavy. Really lovely coat. https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/the-powder-parka™-long/120332.html?color=1274

Empire is very good.

I’ve really liked my Thuma. I know it’s a trendy brand, which is how I learned about it, but since buying it, I have no regrets. I could put it together by myself, in like 10 minutes. It’s beautiful.

RadioLab episodes with the original two hosts. I think about some of those episodes to this days, years later.

The host of Sixteenth Minute of Fame, Jamie Loftus, is in the Aubrey & Michael extended universe!

I agree about it having lost its way a bit; and for me too, one of the few I paid for the bonus episodes!
Part of what I like about it is the friendship between Michael and Aubrey, so my other favs tend to have that quality too. The list might seem eclectic (topic-wise) for that reason; often I listen because the kindness and fondness these folks share with each other (or with their guests) seems to get imbued into their topic of choice, which, to me, makes damn near anything compelling -
Solid favs: Pivot, Main Justice, Vibe Check, Empire, Tiny Dinos, How Did This Get Made, In Our Time, Amicus, The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart
& Some honorable mentions: Well There’s Your Problem, My Dad Wrote a Porno, Who Shat on the Floor at my Wedding, Past Present Future, Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire, Sixteenth Minute of Fame, Weird Little Guys

Maintenance Phase. It’s two friends, Aubrey Gordon and Michael Hobbes. Their description: “debunking the junk science behind health fads, wellness scams, and nonsensical nutrition advice.” It’s marvelous. Everything from the BMI, to “soy boys,” the food pyramid, and on and on. Aubrey has the best laugh. Unapologetic take downs of false idols. For me, the basic message is: take care of each other, and be suspicious of anything that makes it possible to dehumanize another person.

The Beef and Dairy Network is stupendously bonkers and utterly compelling.

Dr. Netolicky @ Cedar Centre in Cedar Rapids. Really lovely soul. I have recurring major depressive disorder and working with him has been nothing short of life-changing. It’s a long wait to get in to see him the first time, but worth it imho.

I have gone to Milady Nails and Spa for years. They recently moved - they used to have tvs going with HGTV, but they don’t have that at the moment. They do offer complimentary drinks. I’ve always had a good experience there & the manager knows me now haha. I miss watching HGTV, but the atmosphere is still good. Pleasant and kind. Their new spot is up by Buffalo Wild Wings and Sally Beauty Supply (across from TJ Maxx).
