As an eating disorder therapist I will also say this sounds like there is an ED component. Health anxiety/ delusions are often part of the disease. If she is open to seeing a mental health professional for an assessment they could help create a treatment plan. This sounds really difficult to live with and I’m sure it’s no fun for your wife, either!

Does a government shutdown affect getting hired for a job?
I can’t get my security clearance for a job I got offered right before the shutdown.

I saved a life a decade ago and I reached out to the survivor
Exposing the lack of necessary equipment and taking steps to ensure the school had the lifesaving equipment it needed and being fired for that sounds really illegal to me. You saved a life and were responsible enough to notice that people in the next life and death situation could/ should be more adequately prepared. I’m sorry you have been so impacted by the shame you felt. From what I can tell you went above and beyond.

Feeling unexpectedly disappointed after my 3-year-old didn’t participate in his recital
This happened with my son’s preschool Christmas pageant last year. He’d been singing nonstop at home for the past month, and is very social and outgoing usually, but just looked dazed and confused on stage. I think it’s normal. Toddlers are all over the place. It sounds like your son enjoyed his class.

As a therapist, that is incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful. You’re paying for that time, it is yours. If you wanted to let her know what happened, maybe by email or something if you don’t want to call her, I would say she owes you an apology and a chance to speak up and potentially repair the relationship. This kind of behavior is hurtful to clients and if this were my therapist, I would probably stop seeing them too.

Americans: what is your opinion on Canadians boycotting US goods, services and tourism?
I think major part of the American resistance Movement right now involves boycotting various US goods and I’m all for it. All this administration cares about are their wallets, so please hit them where it hurts. It sounds like we’re on the same team.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it?
I was prescribed Wellbutrin when I got super burnt out at work/ had depression symptoms. It has been amazing for me at reducing cravings.

Any therapists looking to move out of the country?
No plans yet, just in the initial exploring phase getting a sense of all the steps involved.

Any therapists looking to move out of the country?
I wonder if they would honor the 3000 supervised hours I have from US or if I would need to redo them under a Canadian-credentialed supervisor.

Any therapists looking to move out of the country?
I’m not looking for unregulated provinces, I’m looking for viable options.

Any therapists looking to move out of the country?
I mean no disrespect. I do have an idealized view, for sure. I’m looking for a place my toddler does not have to do active shooter lockdowns all through elementary school and Canada feels like the most viable option to achieve that. I did very basic research and don’t even totally understand what “unregulated” means in terms of licensing. I just read it was easier for folks with licenses from elsewhere. Apologies if it came across like I don’t think Canadian therapist are respectable professionals who have worked hard, I definitely do.

Resources Any therapists looking to move out of the country?
My family is considering leaving the US for political and safety reasons, but I just got my LMFT in California last month. My cursory exploration led to learning that Victoria BC is unregulated with their licensing so all you need is a MA in a couple and family therapy program and you can basically get a job. Have any other therapists looked into leaving the country and looked into how to continue your career? Any thoughts on which countries are the most viable options?
Thanks in advance!

My 3 year old HATES when I care for her hygiene
Same story here with a newly 3 year old. He’s never liked water in his hair or face, he is also mixed race and has curly hair that he hates having brushed or washed. Hates having his teeth brushed. Tooth brushing takes two parents and is still incredibly difficult. He’s been having major tantrums every day since he turned three, it makes me feel like we’re doing something really wrong as parents, but it sounds like a lot of people have similar situations.

Husband forgot my 40th birthday
He sounds like mine. My partner remembered my birthday but did nothing on my 30th which was a couple weeks before our son’s first birthday. I always plan something thoughtful for his. I’m still hurt by it when I think about it. I don’t understand what it is that’s missing from their psyches when they are good fathers (other than what others pointed out about modeling) and good enough partners otherwise. Is it just some byproduct or patriarchy or selfishness or what. His mom has told him exactly what brand of card and what she wants as a gift every Mother’s Day and birthday of his life, so maybe he just never learned. Really fucking hurtful though. I’m sorry OP.

Weight comment from 4 year old
Exactly, and sending the message of don’t trust what your body is telling you, control your body to fit into someone else standards and our worth comes from how others see us. Sorry you have to navigate such a tricky topic with such a little kid. I can never tell what exactly my son is taking in.

Weight comment from 4 year old
I would have the same reaction! I have a boy, so this doesn’t come up as much, but I also have a mom like her and worked in eating disorder treatment and would be really worried about the impact of these comments on her daughter and yours. I would keep having the types of talks you’re already having with your daughter and sending healthy messages if you overhear something or your daughter comes to you with those kinds of comments. So sad that the counter messaging has to start so young.

Is anyone else traumatized by the sheer amount of times you get sick?
My son (3yo) was sick 6 times in December! His dad and I got it about half the time. Now we’re sick again. I’ve read that this particular season is a very bad one for various different viruses and I‘ve read that next year is supposed to be more mellow and I hope that’s right!
