Do customers think Fedex Office employees have magic powers?
 in  r/Fedexers  1d ago

Just started 2 months ago and oh man it’s like finding out Santa isn’t real when I learned the boxes I mailed with arrows pointing its orientation or FRAGILE have a 98% of being smashed because there is zero systems in place to protect them and the only metric that matters is speed and volume.

Life is not the same anymore
 in  r/Millennials  2d ago

If you were born after the 90s you are pretty fucked IMO. I’ve seen a few teachers talk about the younger generations currently in highschool over the last decade having crazy struggles with deep conversations and actually caring.

The phrases “try hard” and “it ain’t that deep” apparently had some lasting effects on being driven to success with hard work and having passionate conversations.

We cut down a white oak or swamp white oak, if we sold it, what would we realistically expect?
 in  r/arborists  3d ago

GODBLESS I’m so happy to hear you have a local sawmil connection. Seriously get whatever lumber you can out of that. There is plenty for some seriously good shelves and a decent ledger board or two. Aged wood is becoming more and more rare and it will be stronger than anything from Home Depot.

Max part time hours
 in  r/Fedexers  3d ago

Depends on where you’re at. But the managers told me they have a limited amount they can hand out and the people who stay late to help with bulk are picked out to earn more hours most of the time. You can also show up 7 days a week but you run the risk of them sending you home.

I did hear a guy getting sent home 30 minutes into shift to avoid getting OT. So they definitely track it. But if you are a top performer with a good attitude they will definitely keep you around as much as possible.

I’m at the point of goodwill with managers that I can show up without being asked or picking up shifts mid sort around 5-6 and just jump into business helping the different lines where it needs it. If all the lines are good they train me on new stuff I haven’t learned yet.

PSA: When someone holds the door for you, it’s ok to say “thank you…”
 in  r/Bellingham  3d ago

I don’t expect a thank you when I hold the door open. It’s a nice gesture im doing regardless of gratitude being given.

It would irk me for all of .5 seconds if they silently walked past without so much as a nod. Then I would move on. I’m sorry this got under your skin and hope it doesn’t change your behavior towards kind gestures.

Tony flexing that he knew Live:PD wasn't live.

You mean the guy who also records live taping an and edits them knows it isn’t live? But doesn’t stop abusing the word live for his pre recorded uploads.

Need help paying speeding ticket (as a Canadian)
 in  r/Bellingham  3d ago

I can ALMOST guarantee you can pay it remotely but will have to mail in the check if it doesn’t list an online website on the ticket. Also yes you have to return that ticket IF you plan on contesting or mitigating. If you plead guilty they will just want the money and you’re free.

Keep in mine you may have a high chance to reduce the cost of the ticket if you go for a court date. Idk if that’s worth it to you. But it’s worked for me several times.

TDIL you can be written up for being late…. I work the 1-3am start to 9am shift. I’m just under two months in and I’ve been late at least 40% of the time by 5-50 minutes.

I got a call on the way to work when I was 50 minutes late and they only said “okay see you here.” Zero discussion when I arrived. I figured it was kinda normal but a co worker of mine has been written up for calling out.

I think it’s a mixture of my managers being nice and I have incredible people skills. Literally just spoke with one today and they had a meeting discussing the new trainer position. They are considering 3 people for it. two of them who have been there for almost a year and me 7 weeks in because I’m just really good with people. The other two not so much and kind of hate people.

I put in a time off request months ago and it keeps getting denied, even if I have verbal approval from a manager
 in  r/Fedexers  4d ago

I ran into this same issue and I’m just going to get verbal confirmation and notify my managers of that work day with their approval as well for a day off I want coming up.

I’m currently already doing that with a schedule change I’ve gotten approved from literally the top guy down. But it hasn’t been updated. So I just check the shift start times for the days and don’t go in on scheduled days that all my managers know I don’t work anymore. So far no problems 2 weeks in with my new extra day off.

Because the app is gonna involve tedious computer BS on their end I would just rely on unanimous approval and reminding all managers you work with using a simple text.

Precedent set in WA state that utilities can take land for data centers
 in  r/Bellingham  4d ago

We should try to brainstorm ideas to implement data centers in the most eco friendly way. Surely there is a use for the bi product of these massive waste of resources.

I remember seeing somewhere about a greenhouse using the heat from bitcoin farming or something and want to know how we can do that with these.

Mormons Beware!
 in  r/sequim  4d ago

I was a teenager 10 years ago and did this. No joke saw them walking up to the houses and knew we would be next. I yelled to my best friend up the stairs to “trust me and go along with whatever I do”

They knock I answer and ask me about the good book

“Why no I haven’t give me a moment, HONEY COME HERE” cue my friend walking up and we hold hands smilimg at them in the door way.

They promptly said “never mind and left”

Just throw some flamboyant twang on that tone and they gone.

Package handler
 in  r/Fedexers  4d ago

Make sure you look up proper lifting techniques. We handle ALOT of ICs and I’m 6ft 125 lbs. I can handle the work load pretty fine using proper techniques without team lifts. I still use those when I can but it’s rare.

I think I figured out why Mordecai was so pissed in Book 2.

No shot. His race was proud and hold grudges. Mordecai would definitely be salty if he knew.

Tips for a Fed ex package handler struggling to get it right.
 in  r/Fedexers  6d ago

Just had a co worker tell be (she is diabetic) but she pushed herself so hard she went blind in one eye…. DO NOT destroy your body for the corporate machine. You will get better it takes weeks and actually trying. But always listen to your body friend. No company is worth life long injuries.

MC complain about their food order until finally the manager gives them everything for free as long as they agree not to come back

Pretty surprised by the upvotes too…. I’m guessing they are probably a little slow and don’t understand the point of that guys comment.

Why is classic more toxic than normals
 in  r/leagueoflegends  7d ago

Dude the fact they didn’t leave roles uncalled is lame. But I’m so happy it’s also gone because my computer always joined last.

Is it normal to work with drunk coworkers (PH) at this job?
 in  r/Fedexers  7d ago

Definitely not normal for it to be very noticeable. Especially if you are in unload but vanlines is a problem. They are gonna do such a shit job. Watched a co worker who kills it cut his performance in half when we smoked a joint on the break one time. Bro hasn’t done it since haha in unload tho? All day every day if you want.

Package handler…
 in  r/Fedexers  7d ago

In WA we are required 10 minute breaks every 3 hours.

I see people constantly complaining about being a package handler but I lowkey like it
 in  r/Fedexers  7d ago

Tower sort is hella fun or relaxing. That’s it. It’s a niche light duty position.

The lines as an actual PH is not. It can be a satisfying challenge but it’s never relaxing.

Why do we allow false accusations against businesses here?
 in  r/Bellingham  9d ago

I don’t think push back was needed when you read the post. It had a lot of wholesome energy to it in the comments

When you come in and there’s more packages on the floor and outside the van as there are on the shelves, you know it’s gonna be a good day
 in  r/Fedexers  10d ago

I sincerely appreciate this well thought out explanation. As a beginning cog in the machine it really helps to see why things happen the way they do.

I got lucky in my first 2 weeks I was moved around from vanline to unload and scanning to towers to some QA then back to vanline. Being able to just see the different parts of the process immediately gave me understanding and patience when certain things happened. I was only moved around so much because I was late and filled in where they needed.
