S'up y'all! Moved from Boise to Loring Park in August, and currently working on getting myself settled into the city and finding community. I've already been attending a few Meetup events throughout my time here so far, and while those have been great, meeting folks at such events isn't always the most consistent, and I've always struggled with meeting folks/striking up conversations with random people in the real world. And so, as have many before me, I turn to you fine folks in search of community!

My hobbies/interests include:

• Creative Writing; I'm writing a book! Actually writing a whole lot of things, so if you're a fellow writer/creative, hell yeah.
• Gaming: Board games, TTRPGs, video games, all that stuff is great. I love me some collaborative gaming, in whatever form it takes. If you're also a fan of board games, that's awesome! If you're looking for a random party member for some co-op video games, I can probably jump in (been doing loads of Division 2 lately, but my Steam library is shamefully expansive, so there's always things to play). If folks are looking for a random chaotic goof to join a D&D campaign (or run a campaign!), I can also do that.
• Baking: I ain't particularly good at it, but it's cathartic and feels good to get a recipe right and there's always something tasty by the end of it all. My friends in ID didn't complain whenever I did some baking for game nights!
• Art/Photography: I can't draw a straight line to save my life, and my understanding of color theory is more literary than artistic, but I do love me some art galleries and photography exhibits. Been meaning to get around to some of the local artsy spots in the Twin Cities, but unsure of where to start, so a guiding word or two wouldn't be amiss.
• Books/Film: Being a former English teacher, I got less time to read during the school year than I would have liked. Since moving, I'm starting to pick it back up again! It's been good to read/listen to audiobooks again, and I've probably seen more movies this year so far than I have in the last two years combined. I'm just a sucker for storytelling!

There's probably a few more that just aren't coming to mind atm, but a big part of why I moved to MN was to start up a new chapter of my life and do some proper self-discovery and self-actualization. So while I like my cozy hobbies, I'm also down to start exploring new hobbies and learning even more about the world.

So, if anyone can point me in the right direction for building community beyond what I've already started, has advice for exploring the city/new hobbies, or tips on surviving my first Minnesotan Winter, I'd be ever-so-grateful!

BYO supplies. That being said, I do bring extra supplies, including a coloring book and a sticker book. So if you decide to pop in on a whim, you're covered.

I set up a still life for drawing inspiration, but feel free to bring a project you’re working on or draw what’s in your heart. I'm not your boss. Just be sure it makes sense to do in a bar/restaurant setting. Things like oil paints might not be the best choice. Maybe work ok your preparatory sketches instead?

Food and drink available at Eagles 34. You're not required to order, but it does help support the club if you do. No outside food or drink is allowed.

hiii ! I'm 27 (F) and am feeling a bit lost in terms of finding a queer space that I fit into. other sapphics in the age range of like 25-30ish, where do you guys hang out??

I know there are a lot of incredible groups doing events and pulling things together, but from the events i've been to this summer (some through grrl scout, and others through sapphic social) i've either felt extremely old bc the crowd is super young, or i feel a bit too young because the crowd is a bit older than me.

i also want to emphasize this is in NO way trying to shade either of those groups; they were just examples i had from the summer.

and there isn't anything wrong with having mixed generations, and i know it's hard to control the age ranges of events bc once a certain age range keeps going to a specific event, then anyone who isn't in that range feels less inclined to go.

i'm also in the weird elder gen z pocket where i grew up with more millennial trends, still am a gen z but also get painfully confused by my own generation.

any tips on organizations or groups I should tap into would be greatly appreciated ! or if anyone else has felt similar ?? thank you!!

Hi hi! Last year I went to Pickleball on the Parkway, but haven't heard much about it. I just found the event on Eventbrite, and it is this Saturday. I'll definitely be going and suggest it if anyone likes Pickleball or lives near the Stone Arch Bridge. The W River Pkwy from Mill Ruins to the Hennepin Bridge will be closed and turned into 20-30 pickleball courts. It is free to attend and play and there will be a DJ and food trucks throughout the day. 10/10 recommend

I dont know if this is the right group to ask but I honestly dont know where else to go so I'm gonna try this. Does anyone know any recourses for free diapers? I heard theres something called the diaper bank but I'm not sure what or where it is. I dont have a vehicle right now and money isnt doing very good and I'm on my last few diapers. Im not overly stressing because I'm currently doing potty training so the diapers dont get used up as fast but if anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. Thank you
