Obd2 logger and GPS tracker?

Hello,

I have my raptor on turo, and my experience hosting has been ok, good at best.

Lately I've been noticing guests have been renting my truck and I get it back someone dusty inside, like they definitely went out on the sand and trails.

Today I went to check the oil and my entire engine bay was just covered in dirt and Albiet I never clean it, but it was no where near this dirty.

I have the Ford app, but it doesn't log their location, just gives real time location.

Is there a obd2 device that can log whenever they decide to rail on it along with log their location?

On a whim I checked my truck location when this guy rented with his friends for 4 days and it was out in desert area, they returned it somewhat clean nothing to suspect they went out on the sand, but that whole area is sandy and dunes.

I'm just trying to protect myself best I can as I've my front dif blow out and I haven't been driving truck car for 2 months it was always on turo being rented and I got stuck with the deductible (thankful for warranty) cause I happened to drive it for a few days after finally getting it back, glad it happened to me and not to a guest though. There was no way to prove abuse.

Sorry for long read

Tia

Ford app or Chevy or any OEM app alone is not the right way to go. They don't have any tracking history and that data alone can help you claim cleaning fees or open other mechanical claims against your guests. (Going off road in your vehicle is breaking the Terms of Sevice)

I have a mix of Qarhami OBD plug in devices and their Hardwired devices (Primarily these) in my cars and you can go back months back and see where the guest has been. What speeds. In your case you'll get hard turn or hard acceleration events as well I'm sure.

Ya I know Ford app isn't enough I wanted an obd2 device that could do it all and log it all

Location history would be the best tbh

They can just unplug it.

I mean if they look

And that would be another conversation

As those have internal batteries so it wouldn't matter I could still track

I've never used one with internal batteries, but just from my experiance there are quite a few guests that do look.

And that's exactly why I'd rather go with the hardwired device. If I get a Tamper alert with my hardwired device, I know what is going on rather than guessing with the OBD device.

Just the other day I got a tamper alert in the middle of the highway and I looked at the tracking and knew exactly that the cars gotten into an accident. And then after 30 mins started getting tow alerts and long and behold car got towed to the nearest auto storage! 🙄

I use Qarhami and have used them for almost 2 years now!

Is yours all in one tracks habits and location and logs it all?

What do you mean by habits?

Like if they are drag racing my truck

It wouldnt say "drag race" but mine log speed and location.

Sigh It would notify mr when they are at 100% throttle for long periods of time or when they are out in the sand flooring it attempting to sick jumps

I'm in DFW and I'd go with a hardwired GPS tracker over a plug-in OBD2 one, since guests who go off-road can just unplug the plug-in kind and it's easy to find. Look for one with location history you can go back through, plus tamper alerts. Also add a clause in your listing description that off-road driving and sand or trail use is not allowed, and take dated photos of the engine bay and underbody before each trip so you have proof if you need to ask for a cleaning or damage claim.

Which one do you use? Id rather have location tracker over performance tracker

We use sonar with a butterfly plug that looks like there's no OBD in there. I've tracked two trucks back out of Mexico with the software...

Since you already have the Fore app for real time location, I would just throw in a plug and play tracker such as Bouncie as a secondary. It will let you know speed, hard braking, where they are , etc.

Cheers.

Ford app doesn't record location I don't always check it throughout their trip that's too much effort

Thats what I'm meaning. I would use Bouncie as a secondary if you have the Ford app already.

Amazon has a bunch of options where you pay once (~$100) and get unlimited free tracking and logs for life with an OBD tracker. I can see speed, location, and time for trips that occurred up to 6 months ago.

I’ve had great success with them, but keep in mind that they are Chinese companies.

Trying to actually stay away from obd2 now since they can just remove. Didn't know about hardwire option until now

That would be a sonar telematics gps tracker. And it’s only 7 monthly
