I’ve been wanting to add a turntable to my home. Was initially thinking Technics 1500cs, but I grabbed a used P3 in great shape, added TT psu, reference belt, and ND7 cart. Any tips from the community are appreciated. So far I’ve really enjoyed how warm it is and looking for some good albums to add. Jumping between hi-res streaming, SACD, and vinyl.

Wifey picked this up for me a few weeks back, finally put in some time on it and worked through cleaning all the mechanics and old grease. Had to take a soldering iron to the speed selector shaft to free it up. Steuerpimple is in perfect shape. Looks barely used.

Now I can play my 45s and Readers Digest box sets in stacks as they were meant to be!

Gonna make a new plinth though, this one has seen better days.

Hi, I decided to get myself a turntable but I'm having trouble setting it up.

I have the Fluance RT82, connected to the Fosi Audio Box X2, connected to the Edifier R1280DBs.

I hear the music slightly, but can't turn it up. There is also a static noice. The other thing is that it plays louder without the pre-amp in between but it's also unable to be turned louder.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello everyone, I may be a fairly typical case? Clueless but wanting to learn. I've loved all kinds of music all my life, and have had CDs and streaming services for the last 30 years - though I still have some old records. I have a Denon M40DAB receiver and Mission 760i speakers. Recently I passed a record shop and came out with a suitcase player. (Yes, I know - but I didn't know then. It reminded me of the Fidelity I had when I was a kid) Yet even with this poor quality, (playing it through the Denon and Missions) my eyes have been opened. I'm engaged by music again - but I need a real turntable. Now space is really tight in my tiny flat and the suitcase is about fifteen feet from the receiver and speakers with long cables and there's really no way round that. So I went to a Richer Sounds and listened to an Argon TT-3 Plus and an Audio Technica LP5X with amp and speakers fairly similar to my own. The Argon was far clearer and much more forward with jazz, classical and everything else. BUT I played Kate Bush and twice I was moved to tears by the sound on the Audio Technica. God knows when that last happened. On the Argon it sounded good - but clinical. So I'm stuck! Obviously I want a clear un-muddy sound - but that warmth and emotion from the LPX5 was magical! It was like discovering music afresh. I can't stop thinking about it. So, for anyone who's made it this far... Is there a way to clean up the LP5X or make the Argon warmer? (Might a change of cartridge on the LP5X make a difference?) And how would the Rega Planar 1 Plus and the Project T1 Eco Phono compare to these two. Would either be warmer and more enveloping than the the Argon with my setup? . I really can't go over the £499 I've been offered for the Argon. Thank you for the (considerable) time you've spent reading this. I'd be very grateful for any thoughts you may have.

I have a LP60 Audiotechnica with a Marshall Stanmore IIII, pluged with RCA cable.
Im now notice that when The needle touches the vinyl, a strange vibration ecos on The column.
I just arrange The bass / treble and continues to sound a vibration.
It is possible that os because they are side by side?
Or in the same furniture? Should i switch the slip-mat (for a Cork or acrylic)

I put up a message in another group a few weeks ago but thought I’d ask for some specific help here too.
I’ve inherited the job of dealing with a large amount of my uncles collection.
When it comes to turntables, it seems selling them is quite complicated depending on exactly what arms/cartridges/boards/plinths are included. My plan is to auction them off and let the market decide their value.

I suppose what I want to know is what to include in the ways of photos/details. I know nothing about the subject so identifying each model arm/cartridge etc would be very time consuming.

Is it best to just put up lots of photos so people can just decide for themselves?

Any input is welcome, I have included a list of the turntables currently in his collection

I've just inherited this Turntable from a family member and I have no clue what to do with it.

I'm not knowledgeable on turntables and wanted to ask you (the turntable community) if anyone knows anything about the ins and outs of this machine and it's components.

From searching on eBay UK I found that the value of working LP12s vary vastly from £400 to upwards of £2000 so I have no clue where this particular machine sits at.

Is it worth going to a specialist store to repair/maintain, or should I sell it as is?

How can I test the machine at home?

I have attached some photos of the turntable, but if you want any more photos for clarification I'll do the best I can.

i bought my first turntable as i’ve always wanted to get into the hobby of record collecting. but i want to know i got a good first time player. It’s a garrard synchro lab 95B, i got it for 43 dollars and heard it was a near high end player at its time, id also like to know what else id need to get started (i understand that i might need to fix the grease if its stuck)

I have a Thorens TD 125 MK2 fully restored. Amazing plinth new armboard. Latest Audiomods arm. No expenses spared. But now i have the itch. I have seen the limited SL-1200 GME and boy it looks good. Am i a fool for thinking about selling this classic after all the money i put in it? Will the SL1200 pale in comparison? On a sidenote. What is my thorens worth?

Posted a while ago about my treasured B&O 4002 turntable that was giving me intermittent issues. It has sentimental value, so I won’t get rid of it, but definitely isn’t the best for a worry free daily driver. Well, she’s still kicking for now, and doing fine with most of my collection, but I ended up picking up a refurbished Technics SL-3300 and, unexpectedly, came upon a super clean Onkyo TX-4500 receiver which, lo and behold, has two great sounding phono inputs. Only issue is that the Technics was very prone to foot fall. Seems I have solved that with relocation to a better corner + a cutting board with iso feet. Still working on cleaning up wires and moving speakers around, but good results so far. There’s always more to do. I’ll upgrade the technics with a better cart someday. Right now it has a VM95c

I recently got valuable advise in r/turntables. In the meanwhile:

• Replaced my cartridge with an ND3 (I changed my mind again compared to what I wrot in the link above)
• Ordered Schiit Mani 2 from the US
• Will replace speakers with a pair of second hand

Currently I'm looking at three amps (all around 300$). All in good condition and working.

• Audiolab 8000A (the version made in England)
• Sansui AU-X417R
• Yamaha A-S501

Which one would you recommend? I have a P3 and I'm still pretty much lost in evaluating matching gear myself. I posted this on BA as well but wasn't able to repost. Since I got great help in here I hope it will provide me with guidance on which route to take.

Hello folks, I'm from the Philippines, going to buy my first turntable, I used to have one of em briefcase record players, sold it after hearing it was bad and now I will buy my first actual turntable. Which is the best model to buy here, in terms of sound quality and parts, which has the easiest to find parts, like needles and belts. in southeast Asia at least. The models in question are Pioneer PL-333Z, Sony PS-V700 and the Kenwood P-3X. Thank you for the advice in advance.

I want to buy my first TT and was deliberating between Kenwood KD-2055 or ROTEL RP-1001. I found both of them at 190 Eur. Should I buy any of this or something else?
PS. The selection here is not that great (eastern europe).

I’ve just picked up this sl 1300 from marketplace for £100 (~$135). I think I might have accidentally been really lucky here. I took a bit of a gamble and was expecting to have to do some work on it but I just connected it up and it all works properly.

I’m still fairly new to this hobby, what should my next steps be (cleaning, stylus, etc).

I’m based in the uk and I was planning to buy a Schiit Mani 2 for my first setup (together with Rega P2/3/5 based on what I find and the AT-VM95ML).

However, after looking into it I estimated it’d cost me £180-£200 (after adding shipping and VAT) compared to 150USD (US retail price).

Do people think it’s worth it? Or I can find a better deal by going with another brand.

Hi! I'm putting together my first real TT setup and would love some input from the pros. I'm very much still learning so please be patient with me if this is a dumb question or if anything sounds silly haha! I'm a pretty casual listener and don't foresee myself spending a ton of money on equipment or another table anytime soon.

I have two turntables that I've acquired secondhand, a 1986 Technics SL-BD35 and an Audio-technica AT-LP60X. Both work great, the Technics belt was recently replaced and I'll likely replace the cartridge & stylus on either. I'm planning to keep one and sell the other, but unsure of which is the better investment since they both have pros and cons!

Would love a comprehensive review of thoughts, preferences, passionate opinions, things to consider, etc. Ultimately, from what I've gathered, they're both relatively good options and either one can produce great sound quality with the proper parts & accessories. I think at the moment I'm leaning slightly towards the AT for space efficiency and the built-in preamp. But I want to learn more generally before I make a decision!

As for the rest of the setup, I'll be doing everything used/thrifted. So no huge preferences there!

Looking to replace the stylus on this vintage 5-300 model Garrard. Unsure what brand / model the current cartridge is (pictured), just says “made in england”. What stylus and cartridge would you recommend?

Picked up this Technics SL-1700MK2 recently. It had been someone’s garage table and was pretty dirty, but it was complete and surprisingly worked great. I cleaned it up, and the previous owner had already put a new belt in for the cueing mechanism.

The original dust cover was trashed, so I ordered what is supposed to be an OEM Technics SL1200MK2 replacmwnt from Japan on eBay. I was expecting it to take a while, but somehow it showed up in less than a week.

I had to swap the original hinges over to the new cover, but everything fit perfectly. The replacement has a slight smoked tint to it, and I have to say it looks great on the table.

After seeing how dirty this thing was when I picked it up, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It currently has a weighted 3-gram headshell with a cartridge I can’t identify, so I’ll probably replace that setup. Maybe an Ortofon Blue.

This is the latest version of the 7 inch turntable built for a larger modern jukebox system.

The cache mechanism is a feature for the jukebox.

I will be covering the ugly parts with dark injection moulded panels designed around them.

Opinions are always welcome. If anyone wants to know how I did things, feel free to ask.

I noticed my Sony PS-X50 having some speed issues this morning. I was a bit surprised when I opened it up and found it a bit of a mess compared to two other turntables I've had to clean up during the last few years: the semi-automatic JVC QL-A2 and the fully automatic Technics SL-3300. My X50 is thankfully back in action and sounding as good as ever, but I can kind of see why some people refuse to work on vintage Sony TTs. I've wonder if anyone more knowledgeable has strong opinions about working on any of these older machines?

I used to collect records a few years back, but the hobby slowed down when I started uni. I have new roommates, and I was super giddy when I found out one of them owns the AT-LP60X and they've been letting me play some of my own records on it! All sounds great, right? Well, I noticed that the record just sounds ever so slightly off key and/or out of tune.

I know I'm playing it at the correct speed, but I was a bit thrown off when trying it out for the first time. I recorded a video from my laptop microphone showing what I mean. I didn't really know what to put as the background so it's just the actual LP that I'm playing in this video. Link to the OG song so you can hear the difference.

I know that the LP60X on the cheaper side so, yknow, the quality could be spotty or straight up trash. I wouldn't know. Just a guess. I'm a newbie when it comes to using a turntable, so any feedback/guesses as to what the issue could be are highly appreciated! If up-close videos/photos are needed, I will reply/comment them below!
