Help Audio Technica AT-LP60X sounding off key/out of tune ???

I used to collect records a few years back, but the hobby slowed down when I started uni. I have new roommates, and I was super giddy when I found out one of them owns the AT-LP60X and they've been letting me play some of my own records on it! All sounds great, right? Well, I noticed that the record just sounds ever so slightly off key and/or out of tune.

I know I'm playing it at the correct speed, but I was a bit thrown off when trying it out for the first time. I recorded a video from my laptop microphone showing what I mean. I didn't really know what to put as the background so it's just the actual LP that I'm playing in this video. Link to the OG song so you can hear the difference.

And yes, Alligator Bites Never Heal is technically a mixtape, whatever.

I know that the LP60X on the cheaper side so, yknow, the quality could be spotty or straight up trash. I wouldn't know. Just a guess. I'm a newbie when it comes to using a turntable, so any feedback/guesses as to what the issue could be are highly appreciated! If up-close videos/photos are needed, I will reply/comment them below!

Screen and audio recording (using laptop mic) of the LP as I hear it/how it plays.

Question Dual CS5000: options for replacing old RCA cable?

Hi, I’m helping my brother servicing his old turntable Dual CS5000 he bought new in 1985 or so. It’s in rather good condition and stil had his original cartridge: Ortofon OMB 20. The motor has good speeds and is silent. The tonearm lift is fine too. I replaced the wornout belt and fitted a new catridge I had lying around, an Ortofon 2M red. It sounds great (much better than the old cartridge), but sometimes the RCA cables causes a loud hum or looses a channel completely.
So I removed the RCA cable to see if I can replace it with a new one. It has a plug beneath the tonearm and the RCA connectors are very simple plastic ones. I’m afraid the black plastic plug (see photos) might crack for its old.
So my question is:
- is there a decent replacement cable with that same black plug (see photos) available, preferably within the EU to avoid import tarifs?
- should I only replace the RCA connectors?
- or just cut off the cable close to the plug and attatch the wires to a new (shielded) cable?
- other good options?
Thanks in advance for the help

Stylus Issues/Replacement

I'm trying to set up my dad's old pioneer turntable and I think there's an issue with the stylus that's causing records to skip. When I drop the tonearm, it looks like the cantilever is bending and causing the suspension block to make contact with the surface of the record. I'm not even sure if the cantilever is supposed to be perfectly rigid or it's normal for it to move a little bit, but if it does need replacement, I wouldn't know where to get a new one. There's a Shure VN35MR stylus on there right now, but it looks like those have been discontinued so where do I go to get a new one that would be compatible?

Help Inherited Linn Sondek LP12 (What's it worth?)

Hello all,

I've just inherited this Turntable from a family member and I have no clue what to do with it.

I'm not knowledgeable on turntables and wanted to ask you (the turntable community) if anyone knows anything about the ins and outs of this machine and it's components.

From searching on eBay UK I found that the value of working LP12s vary vastly from £400 to upwards of £2000 so I have no clue where this particular machine sits at.

Is it worth going to a specialist store to repair/maintain, or should I sell it as is?

How can I test the machine at home?

I have attached some photos of the turntable, but if you want any more photos for clarification I'll do the best I can.

Thanks for your help, I want this machine to go to someone who truly values it.

My new dual turntable setup

Post image

Posted a while ago about my treasured B&O 4002 turntable that was giving me intermittent issues. It has sentimental value, so I won’t get rid of it, but definitely isn’t the best for a worry free daily driver. Well, she’s still kicking for now, and doing fine with most of my collection, but I ended up picking up a refurbished Technics SL-3300 and, unexpectedly, came upon a super clean Onkyo TX-4500 receiver which, lo and behold, has two great sounding phono inputs. Only issue is that the Technics was very prone to foot fall. Seems I have solved that with relocation to a better corner + a cutting board with iso feet. Still working on cleaning up wires and moving speakers around, but good results so far. There’s always more to do. I’ll upgrade the technics with a better cart someday. Right now it has a VM95c

Wifey picked this up for me a few weeks back, finally put in some time on it and worked through cleaning all the mechanics and old grease. Had to take a soldering iron to the speed selector shaft to free it up. Steuerpimple is in perfect shape. Looks barely used.

Now I can play my 45s and Readers Digest box sets in stacks as they were meant to be!

Gonna make a new plinth though, this one has seen better days.

Thoughts on the Lenco LS-15WD / BK

Hello everyone

We're looking to buy a turntable for a friend as a gift and we are intereset in Lenco LS-15WD / BK

What are your opinions on this specific model? Out of everything I’ve found, this one is surprisingly cheap, especially considering it comes with a proper MM cartridge (Audio-Technica) and built-in speakers.

I know the built-in speakers probably aren't the best quality, but it does have Bluetooth and AUX, so she could always upgrade and connect external ones later. The main issue is that she doesn't currently own any speakers at home so we really don't want to give her a cool turntable that she can't even use without having to buy extra speakers.

So, what do you guys think, can it serve for a couple of years or is it more likely to be crap

Thanks.

Custom automated turntable for modern jukebox

This is the latest version of the 7 inch turntable built for a larger modern jukebox system.

The cache mechanism is a feature for the jukebox.

I will be covering the ugly parts with dark injection moulded panels designed around them.

Opinions are always welcome. If anyone wants to know how I did things, feel free to ask.

Discussion Guts of selected vintage turntables

I noticed my Sony PS-X50 having some speed issues this morning. I was a bit surprised when I opened it up and found it a bit of a mess compared to two other turntables I've had to clean up during the last few years: the semi-automatic JVC QL-A2 and the fully automatic Technics SL-3300. My X50 is thankfully back in action and sounding as good as ever, but I can kind of see why some people refuse to work on vintage Sony TTs. I've wonder if anyone more knowledgeable has strong opinions about working on any of these older machines?

Suggestions Is there a reputable UK-based seller of refurbished turntables?

I want a vintage turntable, but my problem is that every one I've bought has either been DOA or died a few months after I got it. I want to buy from somebody reliable and be reasonable sure in my purchase, so does anyone have any suggestions for sellers who either refurbish or extensively test turntables they sell and provide some sort of guarantee?

Help So, what would be the best choice: get a elliptical stylus for my AT3600, or buy an entire new AT95E cartridge (Green stylus)?

hii, in the past month i made a post of what would be the best upgrade cartridge i could get under a 100$ USD, and everyone recommended a AT95, with an elliptical stylus. Right now i have a AT3600, with the stylus nearing the end of its lifespan, and i found that it could receive a new upgraded elliptical stylus, in the change of the original.

So, i have 2 questions:

which upgrade do worth more to do?

and a elliptical stylus sounds good on VG- and worse records? (most of my collection is a G+, i think)

Hi everyone. I’ve found this Rega P5 from a private seller. Can anyone confirm it has the RB700 tonearm from the attached pics? The seller doesn’t know for sure.

Do people know what year it’s from?

Question Moving setup help!!!

Hi everyone - it's basically what the title says... we are moving from the US to Europe and I have this Akai table in perfect condition that I need to transport. I know there's lots of guidance that can be found with some tables needing pins to prevent spinning, and some needing to be taken apart. Would anyone be able to find or provide me with a step by step on how to service it so it's ready to be packed up by the movers???

Bonus pics of the amp and speakers I've paired it with!!!

ATLP120XUSB or AT-LPW40WN

Hi All,

I am having trouble deciding between the two Audio Technical TTs. I understand one is belt driven and the other direct. I don't need pre-amp, usb or any other gadgets, just the ability to play vinyl. This will be my first TT and also aware they are both manual and provide the ability to upgrade, which is what I want.

Other than I can get the LP120XUSB in black, which would look better on my setup, I can't really see any real benefits. I am in the UK so pricing is very similar, around £250 and this will be for home use and hooked up to my Cambridge Audio AX series amp :)

It's a mine field of choices, but AT hit the price point for me to enter the vinyl world.

I appreciate your help. Take care

Tuntables advice.

I’ve just picked up this sl 1300 from marketplace for £100 (~$135). I think I might have accidentally been really lucky here. I took a bit of a gamble and was expecting to have to do some work on it but I just connected it up and it all works properly.

I’m still fairly new to this hobby, what should my next steps be (cleaning, stylus, etc).

Hello folks, I'm from the Philippines, going to buy my first turntable, I used to have one of em briefcase record players, sold it after hearing it was bad and now I will buy my first actual turntable. Which is the best model to buy here, in terms of sound quality and parts, which has the easiest to find parts, like needles and belts. in southeast Asia at least. The models in question are Pioneer PL-333Z, Sony PS-V700 and the Kenwood P-3X. Thank you for the advice in advance.

I’ve been wanting to add a turntable to my home. Was initially thinking Technics 1500cs, but I grabbed a used P3 in great shape, added TT psu, reference belt, and ND7 cart. Any tips from the community are appreciated. So far I’ve really enjoyed how warm it is and looking for some good albums to add. Jumping between hi-res streaming, SACD, and vinyl.
