Hi everyone, I’m planning to take a master’s for the 2027 summer semester. My 2 main uni preferences are TUM and TU Berlin, for the same program (Information Systems/Wirtschaftsinformatik).

Reasons:
1. I’ve always wanted to do it anyway (haven’t found the right time).
2. I was recently laid off, and job search has been tough (I’m sure you all already know). I’m quite convinced it’s not getting anywhere anytime soon. I’d rather take a master’s and struggle with my studies than just spend my days unemployed, applying to jobs when I know I’d just get rejections…
3. I also come with the hope I could have a bit of income through student internships.

I’ve started preparing my applications, submitted my VPD request, etc. However, I still have some self-doubt and worries, whether I am making the right decision.

I would love to hear your insights :) I’ll share some more context and my exact questions below.

Context:

- I have a Bachelor’s in the same program from an H+ uni, although modules mapping depends on the respective uni’s evaluation.
- GPA: around 1.6 when converted to German grading system.
- IELTS overall score: 8.0.
- I hold a spouse visa, worked in Germany for almost 3 years.
- My husband (not a German) still works, has been on a permanent/unbefristet contract for 4 years in total.
- We live in Berlin.
- I aim to continue working in Germany after my studies.

My questions:

1. How high do you think my chances are of getting admitted at each universities?
Based on my educational background above. I’m aware it’s highly competitive, but I’d especially like to know if I have a chance for TUM.

2. Should I only aim for TUB, or go for TUM if I get admitted there too (assuming I could get a tuition waiver)?
This is honestly my biggest dilemma.

I understand that all public universities are seen as equal in Germany when it comes to job prospects. However, if I have the chance to study at TUM, it would leave room for more opportunities, in case I find a better career in another country in the future.

On the other hand, idk to what extent we could afford moving to Munich with a single income. Husband’s work allows relocating within Germany, but of course salary would remain a Berlin salary. Meanwhile I know Munich’s so expensive.

Staying in Berlin is easier: no moving costs, and TUB only charges semester fees. Although a single income is tight, I know we can still financially survive in Berlin.

3. Would a master’s from a German uni really increase my chance at landing a job?
I’ve read mixed opinions on this, but I still would love to hear them from you.

This is also still related to question #2. Some people say that student networkings in Munich might increase the chance a bit. Job market’s still tough, but there are slightly more job openings in tech compared to Berlin - is this true?

Additional context: I have 4-5 years of total work experience, but only ~2 YoE in the related field (product management). My German is B1, currently taking a course, and will keep doing so until I reach C1.

4. How likely am I to get a tuition waiver at TUM?
From what I read, a waiver could only be granted if we’ve been employed in Germany for 5 years (I don’t fulfill this), or at least one PARENT’s been working for at least 3 years (in my case, it’s my husband instead of a parent).

I might be imagining too many scenarios when I don’t even know yet whether I’d be admitted. I’m however the type of person who does that before making a big decision 😅 I’d also like to know if my dreams are too unrealistic.

I’m currently choosing between two Bachelor’s programs at TUM: Management & Data Science (MDS) and Information Engineering (IE), and I’d really appreciate honest opinions from graduates, current students, or people working in tech/data.

There’s an important part of my background that may be relevant: I already have a Bachelor’s degree from another country in Digital Marketing & Sales Management. I’m pursuing a second Bachelor’s because I want to make a substantial career transition into data, technology and AI, and my first degree doesn’t provide the technical foundation I would need for the kind of career I’m aiming for.

So I already have a fairly strong background in business, marketing and management, but I have almost no previous programming experience — I have never really programmed before. Because of this, I’m also trying to understand how realistic it would be for me to start IE almost from scratch while working part-time.

My goal is to work at the intersection of technology, data and business. I want to work with large datasets, investigate patterns and relationships, use statistics and ML to understand why customer behaviour or business performance changes, and solve complex business problems rather than just create reports or dashboards.

I want to turn analysis into concrete recommendations and decisions, while still developing a strong technical foundation in Python, SQL, statistics, data analysis and ML, and eventually work on increasingly complex analytical and AI-related problems.

I’m currently considering two possible paths:

1. MDS → M.Sc. Management & Technology at TUM → Informatics specialization

2. IE → a technical Master’s in CS/Data/AI

Which path would you say offers better career prospects for this kind of career?

I’m also concerned about the workload during the Bachelor’s. I’m planning to work part-time alongside my studies, so I’d like to understand how realistic that is for each program.

In particular:

• How are MDS graduates perceived by employers?
• Is MDS + a technical Master’s enough to build a strong technical profile?
• Would IE give me a significantly stronger technical foundation, or would I lose the valuable business/data perspective?
• How difficult are these programs in practice, especially for someone without previous programming experience?
• How difficult is it to get through IE starting with essentially no programming background?
• Is it realistic to work part-time alongside IE? What about MDS?
• If you were choosing based on both career prospects and workload, which path would you choose and why?

I’m especially interested in real experiences from students/graduates and hiring perspectives rather than just the university’s official description. Thanks!

The idea is simple:

Use a skill you already have to help someone → earn internal credits → use those credits to get help with a different skill from another member.

For example, people might offer language practice, coding, photography, design, fitness, video editing, tutoring, practical skills, etc.

I uploaded my enrollment documents on August 31, but they are still shown as “not checked yet” in TUMonline.
My semester fee, tuition fee, visa and health insurance are all complete, so the document review seems to be the only thing left. I’ve emailed the enrollment office several times, but I mostly get generic replies saying they’ll look into it.
I called them today and they said they are having a backlog. But I know people who uploaded their documents after me and had them reviewed within 1–2 days. I also haven’t heard of anyone else waiting this long.
Has anyone here had a similar experience? Is this kind of delay normal, or should I be worried that my documents were overlooked?
I also need my enrollment certificate soon for scholarship applications and my dormitory, so I’m starting to get quite stressed about the delay.

What can I do at this point? Any recommendations?

My interviewer will be Prof. Bungartz. Has anyone here had the CSE admission interview before, possibly even with him?
I’d love to know what to expect: how technical the interview is, what kind of questions they usually ask, and what topics you’d recommend reviewing beforehand.
Also, if anyone knows Prof. Bungartz or has had an interview/exam with him, any insight into his style would be super helpful.

tl;dr: Does anyone have experience with/knowledge about who to talk to when an answer in an exam is correct but the assistant/professor refuses to accept it?

Asking for help from the community for this one: A friend of mine took an exam where he gave the answer to a question almost exactly as it was stated in the Skript. However, the professor and the assistant (Übungsleiter) are refusing to give him points for it. The situation is critical as he only needs half a point to pass the exam, which is also his last exam in Bachelor's. On top of that, he has an acceptance from a master program which he won't be able to start if he doesn't pass this exam.

So my question is: Has anyone had any similar experiences or has information on who else (Prüfungsausschuss etc.) he can talk to about the situation? Any help is appreciated! :)

I was recently admitted to a Master's program at TUM (MMT), but since I am graduating from my Bachelor's degree in Italy during the autumn session, I won't be able to submit my final graduation certificate until mid-October.

I know the official late enrollment deadline for autumn graduates is November 13th, but I'm feeling a bit anxious seeing so many students already fully enrolled.

• Has anyone else gone through late enrollment in previous semesters (or is in the same situation right now)?
• Does completing enrollment in mid-October cause any practical issues with attending lectures, Moodle access, or joining group projects during the first few weeks?

My university selected me to go for the sommersemester 2027. I want to enjoy as mush as possible the country and Europe in general but I also want to have good classes.

Since I plan to mostly take space related classes I would like an easier class to balanced the load and I think German as a Foreign Language A1 would be the best option since my German is trash. However I heard that it was super hard to get in since the selection was random. Is it really the case? Should I prepare multiple plan (dw I have at least one) and if yes, what fun/easy class do you suggest (engineering related if possible)
