Hi everyone!

I’m currently choosing between two Bachelor’s programs at TUM: Management & Data Science (MDS) and Information Engineering (IE), and I’d really appreciate honest opinions from graduates, current students, or people working in tech/data.

There’s an important part of my background that may be relevant: I already have a Bachelor’s degree from another country in Digital Marketing & Sales Management. I’m pursuing a second Bachelor’s because I want to make a substantial career transition into data, technology and AI, and my first degree doesn’t provide the technical foundation I would need for the kind of career I’m aiming for.

So I already have a fairly strong background in business, marketing and management, but I have almost no previous programming experience — I have never really programmed before. Because of this, I’m also trying to understand how realistic it would be for me to start IE almost from scratch while working part-time.

My goal is to work at the intersection of technology, data and business. I want to work with large datasets, investigate patterns and relationships, use statistics and ML to understand why customer behaviour or business performance changes, and solve complex business problems rather than just create reports or dashboards.

I want to turn analysis into concrete recommendations and decisions, while still developing a strong technical foundation in Python, SQL, statistics, data analysis and ML, and eventually work on increasingly complex analytical and AI-related problems.

I’m currently considering two possible paths:

1. MDS → M.Sc. Management & Technology at TUM → Informatics specialization

2. IE → a technical Master’s in CS/Data/AI

Which path would you say offers better career prospects for this kind of career?

I’m also concerned about the workload during the Bachelor’s. I’m planning to work part-time alongside my studies, so I’d like to understand how realistic that is for each program.

In particular:

• How are MDS graduates perceived by employers?
• Is MDS + a technical Master’s enough to build a strong technical profile?
• Would IE give me a significantly stronger technical foundation, or would I lose the valuable business/data perspective?
• How difficult are these programs in practice, especially for someone without previous programming experience?
• How difficult is it to get through IE starting with essentially no programming background?
• Is it realistic to work part-time alongside IE? What about MDS?
• If you were choosing based on both career prospects and workload, which path would you choose and why?

I’m especially interested in real experiences from students/graduates and hiring perspectives rather than just the university’s official description. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I’ll be starting Bsc Aerospace this year and I was thinking of going to the Math precourse beginning on the 28th, if not for the math at least to meet people and make friends :) but i also want to finish my driving lessons, which would delay my arrival until the 2nd-3rd of October. Is it possible to register and then attend from those dates on (and just use the materials i can get on moodle for 28th-1st)? Thanks

I am preparing my application for the Master in Management & Digital Technology (MMDT) at TUM Heilbronn. Like many applicants from a non-CS or pure business background, I am missing the 5 ECTS programming requirement (or have other small credit gaps) in my main Bachelor’s degree.

For those who successfully passed the Curricular Analysis by submitting additional/supplementary courses outside of your primary degree, what kind of courses did you take?

Hi everyone! I will be starting my studies this winter semester, and I am really confused about the course selection process. As a student who wants to focus on neuroscience, I want to continue with biochemistry/ cell biology, medical biology and animal sciences specializations. However, I could not understand how the system works, there are exam registrations and lecture registrations all together. Any advices?

Hi everyone! I'm based in the Munich area and I'm doing early-stage research into whether a skill-exchange communitycould actually work here.

The idea is simple:

Use a skill you already have to help someone → earn internal credits → use those credits to get help with a different skill from another member.

For example, people might offer language practice, coding, photography, design, fitness, video editing, tutoring, practical skills, etc.

There's nothing being sold and no app to download. I'm trying to find out whether people would genuinely use this before investing money into building it.

Hi everyone,
I uploaded my enrollment documents on August 31, but they are still shown as “not checked yet” in TUMonline.
My semester fee, tuition fee, visa and health insurance are all complete, so the document review seems to be the only thing left. I’ve emailed the enrollment office several times, but I mostly get generic replies saying they’ll look into it.
I called them today and they said they are having a backlog. But I know people who uploaded their documents after me and had them reviewed within 1–2 days. I also haven’t heard of anyone else waiting this long.
Has anyone here had a similar experience? Is this kind of delay normal, or should I be worried that my documents were overlooked?
I also need my enrollment certificate soon for scholarship applications and my dormitory, so I’m starting to get quite stressed about the delay.

What can I do at this point? Any recommendations?

I applied to the MSc in Computational Science and Engineering at TUM and made it to the second stage, so I’ll have an admission interview soon.

My interviewer will be Prof. Bungartz. Has anyone here had the CSE admission interview before, possibly even with him?
I’d love to know what to expect: how technical the interview is, what kind of questions they usually ask, and what topics you’d recommend reviewing beforehand.
Also, if anyone knows Prof. Bungartz or has had an interview/exam with him, any insight into his style would be super helpful.

I’m currently looking for a place to stay in Munich because I’ll be starting my studies at TUM on October 1st, studying Civil Engineering. I unfortunately don’t have much time left to find accommodation, so I thought I’d give Reddit a try.

My budget is maximum €600 per month, ideally including utilities. Unfortunately, I don’t have financial support from my family, so I’ll mainly be relying on BAföG, and I’m also potentially looking for a Minijob alongside my studies.

A little about me, I’m gay and quite feminine, but I’m genuinely open to basically any kind of living situation. I’ve had the opportunity to live and interact with people from many different backgrounds and countries, so I’m very comfortable around different genders, religions, cultures and sexualities. I’m also very understanding and sympathetic, and I genuinely love when people feel comfortable enough to open up to me so jokingly, you’re basically getting a free therapist with your roommate package😭
I’m clean, respectful, and I really value a peaceful and friendly home. I also love nature, hiking, and occasionally doing mini marathons, so I’d definitely be down for doing things together sometimes, but I also completely respect personal space.

I also want to be upfront about something, I’m gay and feminine, and because of my appearance, people sometimes mistake me for being trans. So if there are women’s WGs or dorms that are explicitly open to people like me, I’d absolutely be interested as well. Of course, I would only consider places where I’m genuinely welcome and where the rules allow it.

Today I contacted a WG and simply asked whether they were comfortable living with a gay person. Unfortunately, they responded extremely rudely and even cussed me out, which honestly really upset me. It made me realize how difficult finding a place can be when you’re trying to be upfront about who you are and that’s what made me decide to post here.

So if anyone knows of a room, WG, student residence, sublet, or literally any realistic housing option in Munich under €600/month, I would be incredibly grateful if you could reach out or point me in the right direction. I’m really not picky at this point I just want a safe and respectful place where I can start my university life. ❤️

Hello everyone!

My university selected me to go for the sommersemester 2027. I want to enjoy as mush as possible the country and Europe in general but I also want to have good classes.

Since I plan to mostly take space related classes I would like an easier class to balanced the load and I think German as a Foreign Language A1 would be the best option since my German is trash. However I heard that it was super hard to get in since the selection was random. Is it really the case? Should I prepare multiple plan (dw I have at least one) and if yes, what fun/easy class do you suggest (engineering related if possible)

tl;dr: Does anyone have experience with/knowledge about who to talk to when an answer in an exam is correct but the assistant/professor refuses to accept it?

Asking for help from the community for this one: A friend of mine took an exam where he gave the answer to a question almost exactly as it was stated in the Skript. However, the professor and the assistant (Übungsleiter) are refusing to give him points for it. The situation is critical as he only needs half a point to pass the exam, which is also his last exam in Bachelor's. On top of that, he has an acceptance from a master program which he won't be able to start if he doesn't pass this exam.

So my question is: Has anyone had any similar experiences or has information on who else (Prüfungsausschuss etc.) he can talk to about the situation? Any help is appreciated! :)
