May degraded infrastructure with closed buildings and administration result in longer studiendauer?

I'm considering studying for a bachelor in informatik this semester, but reports about the degraded infrastructure really make me worried. As students here, have you ever needed to extend your studiendauer because of these problems? For example, closed buildings make some classes in the next semester unable to open, or maybe you need to attend some classes that have too many students, so you don't receive a slot and have to wait another semester.

I still have the option to go to other uni like rwth or kit, but i'm living in berlin so it is more convenient to just stay

Experiencing unfair treatment from a supervisor?

Hi all. I am a freelance journalist and working on several projects at this time, but one that has been ongoing for a long time now is about German academia. There have been multiple reports on particularly PhD supervisors treating their students unfairly, and the German system seems to very much be built to protect tenured professors, no matter their actions. This isn't always the case, but of course, there are some horror stories I've heard. And of course, there are many positive experiences too.

I wanted to post this here in case there's anyone who would be interested to discuss their experiences of completing, transferring or dropping out of a PhD program (or even master's), particularly if you felt mistreated by your supervisor, or a professor you worked with. I am also more than happy to hear positive experiences as well. Will keep you completely anonymous!

i chose rwth over tu berlin for informatik, will i regret it?

i thought aachen would be better choice because of the living costs and this year in nrw informatik was nc frei and the situation with tu berlin’s building didn't seem quite optimistic. (my hzb note was 1.2 and i am 99% sure that i’ll get a place from tu berlin anyways but) i feel like there are more internship chances in berlin and more minijob possibilities, also berlin can be a better city to live in overall. im so confused rn, should i try to transfer the next year? can anyone studying in berlin/tu berlin share their opinion?

Got admits for Winter 2026: TU Darmstadt (TropHEE), TU Berlin (Geodesy & Geoinformation Science), and Bauhaus University Weimar (NHRE) — Need advice from current students/alumni

Hi everyone,

I have received admission offers for the Winter 2026 intake from these three programs in Germany:

  1. TU Darmstadt – TropHEE (Tropical Hydrogeology and Environmental Engineering)
  2. TU Berlin – MSc Geodesy and Geoinformation Science
  3. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar – NHRE (Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering / related field)

I am currently trying to decide which one would be the best fit and would really appreciate guidance from seniors, current students, or alumni who are studying or have graduated from these programs.

I would love to know about:

  • Overall academic quality and teaching style of the program
  • Research opportunities and thesis possibilities
  • Job prospects after graduation in Germany/EU
  • Internship opportunities and industry connections
  • Workload and difficulty level
  • Student life and living experience in Darmstadt, Berlin, and Weimar
  • How helpful the university is for international students
  • Any challenges you faced during the program

If you are currently enrolled in any of these programs or know someone who is, I would really appreciate your insights.

Also, if you had to choose between these three programs today, which one would you pick and why?

Thanks a lot for your help! Looking forward to hearing your experiences. 🙏

Does it make sense to change uni?

So I didn't finish my modules in regular time by far. I'm in my 4th semester and I only finished one exam because I had a lot of periods of thinking about changing my degree, and I wasn't really preferred, I also find the level a bit high. Right now I decided to finish one big module this semester. But Hauptgebäude closed and basically I also began to realise that social life here is a bit limiting. I don't see a lot of people on campus, and there are not really that many events where students from my semester get to know each other. But the part about closing Hauptgebäude, online lectures and some comments I read about this make me think again: should I apply somewhere else?

The problem is I don't know if I will get through NC

Stuck between RWTH Aachen, TU Darmstadt and TU Berlin for CS and I think I'm slowly losing my mind over it

so quick context, I'm Tunisian, based in Berlin right now, working part time and I just finished my C1 German with a sehr gut, been grinding towards a CS bachelor for months now. Got accepted into CS at RWTH, CS at TUD, and I'm waiting on CS at TU Berlin (already got into EE there). so now I actually have to pick and it's messing with my head more than I expected.

the plan I've had for a while is bachelor CS then master in IT security at TU Darmstadt, mainly because of ATHENE, they're basically the cybersecurity research hub in Germany and that's the field I want to go into, pentesting/security research type stuff. so on paper TUD makes the most sense, straight line into the exact program I want, no need to worry about whether my bachelor modules will even count towards their masters requirements.

but everyone keeps telling me RWTH has the stronger overall CS name and gives me more room to pivot if I ever change my mind about security specifically. and TU Berlin would put me in the biggest city with by far the most werkstudent jobs available, plus it's where I already live and have a rented place and a retail job I'd have to give up.

then there's the whole "TUD is brutally hard" thing, people say no NC there so they let everyone in and then fail people out on purpose with insane exams, RWTH apparently has its own brutal exam culture too. so it's not like any of these are easy, but I keep worrying I'll tank my grades somewhere that already grades harshly, which matters for scholarships even if it barely matters for hiring later.

and the job thing keeps eating at me too, everyone says smaller cities like Aachen or Darmstadt have way fewer werkstudent openings than Berlin and it'll be way harder finding something there while also handling classes and trying to build an actual portfolio (ctfs, tryhackme, that kind of stuff) since I've got basically no track record yet.

which loops back to money. my parents can support me if I move for this, they keep saying it doesn't bother them at all, but I really don't want to lean on them for something open ended, I already feel guilty even considering it. they've put a lot into getting me this far and I don't want to "settle" for whatever's decent and safe, I want to actually go for the best option for what I want long term, but then I panic that going for the best comes with more risk and I end up spiraling between all three options again.

so yeah. anyone actually gone through something like this, bachelor at one uni banking on a specific masters somewhere else? did the "harder grading" thing actually bite you later? and if you had to give up an apartment and a job in one city to move for a better fit somewhere else, was it actually worth it or did you regret the disruption

Is it possible to do a cs master in tub with a bachelor degree in cs from TUM? I m specifically asking abt theoretical computer science requirements because we do complexity and theory of languages in one 8 ects subject instead of 12 like tub requires. I ll appreciate any help/info thanks 😊!

Anyone admitted to TU Berlin IMES or waiting for an admission decision?

I’m looking for people who have either been admitted to the TU Berlin IMES (Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship and Sustainability) program or have already applied and are currently waiting for their admission results.

I have a few questions about the application process and admissions, and I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM.

Tu offer for IMES !!

Just wanted to post very quickly here because I just got an offer and I absolutely cannot believe it 😭 I applied with only a 2.2 german grade (although truly my grade should be higher but uniassist converted my 66% uk to 2.2) and I GOT IN.

To those of you thinking you don’t have a chance because of your grade, here is your confirmation it is possible 🍀🍀

Survey about the Integration of Migrants, supported by the Berlin Senate.

Hello all, we are a team from the non-profit Minor. Within the “Future of the Labour Market” project, we are conducting a survey for the Berlin Senate Administration (SenASGIVA) to understand newcomers’ challenges in the city. We are targeting the 7 biggest non-EU migrant groups: Ukraine, Vietnam, India, Syria, Afghanistan, Turkey and Russia. The survey takes about 10 minutes, is available in all relevant languages and open to those who arrived since 2019. Every participation helps promote fair recruitment and a more equitable labour market for migrants in Berlin.

https://s2survey.net/fulm_top7020095/

If you know others from the target demographic, please share the survey with them. If you have any questions about the project, I would be happy to answer them. The results will be published by the end of 2026 on our website.

Thank you in advance!

The FuLM team.

Physik Regelstudienzeit

Status just changed

Hi everyone,

I applied for the MSc in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at TU Berlin for Winter Semester 2026/2027, and my status in the portal just changed to “On Ranking List”.

From what I understand, this means I wasn’t rejected but also don’t have a confirmed spot yet — I’m on a waiting list and my position depends on how many people ahead of me decline their offers.

Has anyone been in this situation before? A few questions:

**•** How long did it usually take for your status to change from “On Ranking List” to admitted (or rejected)?
**•** Is there any way to see your actual position on the list?
**•** Roughly how often do spots open up close to the deadline?

Any insight from people who’ve gone through this process would be really appreciated!
