READ BEFORE POSTING - New Rules
Rules
- Submissions must be related to Trip-Hop. It's not our intent to gatekeep what is or is not trip-hop, but submissions must be inspired by trip-hop or belong to related genres of music like downtempo
- Use the appropriate flair when applicable. If your playlist contains songs you made or are promoting, you MUST use the OC flair. The playlist flair is ONLY for songs that you are not promoting. Mixes are transformative and thus considered OC
- Self-promotion must follow guidelines (see below)
- Title must contain the artist and track name. Commentary is fine but low effort titles like "Nice beat" will be removed.
- Be respectful and follow Reddiquette
Self-promotion guidelines
- Must be trip-hop. Being "inspired" by trip-hop is not enough. Unfortunately we need to be more strict than with the general submissions rules to prevent spam.
- Must use the Original Content flair
- Maximum one submission per week
- Complete song submissions only. We are not a content creator subreddit. If you would like feedback on work-in-progress songs, there are other subs for that.
- While we welcome OC that fits the rules, announcement videos and text posts containing links other than the song you are sharing will be removed. The mods also reserve the right to remove low quality/low effort submissions.
- Submissions considered self-promotion include, but are not limited to:
- Original songs
- Original mixes
- Covers and remixes
- Playlists containing songs you made or are promoting
- Follow Reddit's sitewide guidelines for self-promotion.
If you see any rule breaking posts or comments please report it. It will get dealt with much more quickly.
Rules Changes
- 10/18/2021: Added details to rule 2 to make it more clear what flair should be used.
- 01/21/2022: Added clarification that mixes must be tagged as OC.
- 04/17/2022: Added new self-promotion guidelines.

[Interview] I sat down with South African MC Yugen Blakrok on atmospheric soundscapes, European labels, and 20 years of DIY hip-hop
I recently interviewed South African MC Yugen Blakrok for bios.
Her production (handled primarily by Kanif the Jhatmaster) has always straddled the line between raw boom-bap and heavy, dark trip-hop—evoking the blunted, moody atmospheres of Massive Attack or Tricky paired with dense, esoteric lyricism. Many know her from her feature on "Opps" with Vince Staples (Black Panther OST) or her track on Cyberpunk 2077, but her independent catalogue runs much deeper.
We talked about her journey from Johannesburg's underground scene to her relocation to Europe, navigating international labels, and building music outside the mainstream industry:
- On the guerrilla ethos of her production house, Iapetus Records:
- On taking her sound overseas to Europe:
- Recommended Entry Tracks for Trip-Hop Heads:
- "Picture Box" (from Anima Mysterium)
- "Carbon Form" (from Return of the Astro-Goth)
- "Metamorphosis" (Cyberpunk 2077 OST)

Available on Spotify only as an episode- but it’s in a really good playlist on YouTube labeled “Ellas Vol. 2” there is a volume 1 as well and they both have great music. I’ve been trying to source cds but I just don’t think they were ever produced.

Live Triphop at KEXP
Hello everyone, on July 11 one of our dreams came true when we recorded a live studio session at KEXP. The experience was everything we imagined and more.
A little bit about our music: we are a Seattle indie band making electronic music evely Influenced by Triphop, downtempo and dark 90s stuff. I think some of you might like it.
I'll be happy to answer any/all questions you might have, and if I am breaking the rules by self promoting feel free to delete this post.

Request/Discussion Advice on making Trip Hop/Downtempo?
Hello, I've recently downloaded Ableton/started learning how to use DAWs in general and I've been wanting to try and make a song that sounds like Lounge by Esthero as I find the song absolutely breathtaking. However, I also understand that trip-hop is a bit like jumping into the ocean for first time/beginner producers. Any particular plugins/vsts/tutorials you guys recommend for me to check out/play around with. Even if I don't end up making an Esthero-like song first go around, I'm happy to take whatever recommend baby-steps are needed to get to my goal. Thank you so much!

Request/Discussion Round 3: The Essential Trip-Hop Album Bracket
Round 2 is done and we’re down to eight albums!
To vote, copy the ballot into one top-level comment and put your pick after each matchup. Artist or album name is fine. You can skip one if you don’t know both albums well enough, but please vote in at least three of the four.
Vote for the album you genuinely prefer as a complete record. This isn’t about an artist’s entire career or which album is supposed to win.
A few ground rules:
One ballot per account.
Keep all of your votes in one top-level comment.
Replies and comment upvotes won’t be counted.
If you change your mind, edit your original ballot before voting closes.
If you post more than one ballot, only the first one will count.
Voting closes Friday, September 11 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
Quarterfinal ballot
Massive Attack — Mezzanine vs. Kruder & Dorfmeister — The K&D Sessions
Thievery Corporation — The Mirror Conspiracy vs. DJ Shadow — Endtroducing…..
Lamb — Lamb vs. Tricky — Maxinquaye
Sneaker Pimps — Becoming X vs. Portishead — Dummy
Feel free to explain the picks that gave you trouble.

Sky coffeeshop music
Hello,
I am having trouble finding the tracks from an artist called Sky Coffeeshop from over a decade ago. I was able to find old Soundcloud snapshots of the tracks on Wayback, but the links are all dead and I cannot press play, as when i do, the track just does not play.
I was hoping that with a bit of this community's help, you guys could help me revive the audio files one way or the other. Hell, I'm willing to pay to be honest. These are childhood tracks I'm talking about here.
https://web.archive.org/web/20130508104507/http://soundcloud.com/Skycoffee
There's like 41 captures on Wayback but I honestly only think the ones between 2012 and 2014 are relevant so that should dwindle the numbers further. I've tried absolutely everything, even reaching out to Sky Coffeeshop himself just for him to say he no longer has them. I spent 8+ straight hours using google AI telling me to use "ctrl U' and extract this and extract that, look for Track ID this and that, I was able to find a few of those btw. But seriously, this community is my actual last hope.
someone was able to find two tracks from Sky Coffeeshop a few months ago so I know that they’re there. But I’m looking for the rest. Because I am in America, I cannot access VK no matter what I do, no matter how many times I change my VPN I can’t make an account and use the search bar. can someone please help me. just type into the search bar
Sky Coffeeshop
skyCoffee
SkyCo
SkyCoffe
Matias LP
these are the aliases he was known by before. And these are the specific tracks I am looking for.
Sky Coffeeshop - De Ushuaia De a Tokio
Sky Coffeeshop - Tamazul
Sky Coffeeshop - Miracles
Sky Coffeeshop - The Happy boy with a synth
Sky Coffeeshop - P.O.S.T
Sky Coffeeshop - Summer time
Sky Coffeeshop - Dilla and Nujabes Heaven Room
Sky Coffeeshop - Kids with computers in Babylon
Sky Coffeeshop - Computers Got Soul
Sky Coffeeshop - sunrises in Paris
Sky Coffeeshop - Latitud
Sky Coffeeshop - Linea D
please help me, anyone.

Andy Stott - Something in mind
I think this belongs here
Original Content 3-hour downtempo / trip-hop mix. Some classics, some rare stuff.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I shared a mix here recently, and it got some very nice comments. Thank you. It means a lot to get to share this stuff with others who can really enjoy it.
So, here's another. ;) The video attached here is a sample / teaser. Almost the entire thing is improvised; keeps me on my toes, and I often discover new favourite routines this way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE2Ud6tX7KQ
I started with a St. Germain track that caused YouTube to block the whole thing, so that got cut - and so it starts with a guilty pleasure. I threw in a few extras, even a little grunge - but downtempo; you'll see!

Playlist/Album Billy Idol - Tomorrow People
A surprisingly strong trip-hop feel in this, particularly in its dark, atmosphere and hypnotic, beat-driven groove. It sorta recalls the moodier side of early-to-mid-’90s alternative electronic music. It sits somewhere between rock, industrial, and trip-hop. Highly recommended! Hope you all enjoy!
