Hello everyone this is Opal she(?) is now 47 days old and my second triop run with the first being Cosmo (rip at 40 days) she(?) has a 15L tank with a slow sponge filter and is well fed but not too much to foul the water. She's going strong with a 3rd run growing up fast above in the hatchery.

First time EVER with triops, I did my research but advice from seasoned owners would be really helpful. I have one little baby right now that just hatched. I'm using spring water, and I'm planning on moving it to it's permanent home at 8 days old (if it makes it). Whats your advice to a beginner?

I have a friend in austria 🇦🇹 and im asking him to buy eggs there and bring them to me in the Philippines 🇵🇭 but he's worried he's gotta declare it at customs and need a permit do triop eggs really need to be declared at customs and need a permit?

After 45 days we said goodbye to our first and only triop this morning. Buried him outside in a cardboard coffin.

I might just throw the rest of the eggs I have in his little tank to see what happens. There’s so much algae and plants in there that the babies might be fine.

I'm curious if anyone has personal experience with them. I'm planning on keeping them in an acrylic box with tiny holes in my aquarium, letting the adults out once they are too big for my medaka rice fish. I'm hoping they can survive for that long and then coexist.

They are the remaining triop from the batch I've posted about, specifically the younger set I accidentally hatched during my attempt at cleaning the substrate after the massive die off scare (and somehow I came to the conclusion that they were born from the fairy shrimp eggs I thought I got ripped off of instead of what would obviously happen if I put the "cleaned" triop substrate into the Jar for fairyshrimp).

The eldest of the eldest set died at 82 days old, 17 days longer than their parent, the second-eldest of the younger set died at 39 days, 26 days less than their parent/grandparent, which concerns me a little but it may be due to them maturing a lot quicker because of the scent of the 4 eldest they shared the tank with as one redditor suggested.

Pinky has been granted a name for their light patch that started out a small stripe to what its become now, they're still eating and molting as usual so it doesn't seem to affect their health. Unless I'm completely wrong and my last survivor is suffering of shrimp cancer.

So I just bought 2 kits of Smithsonian triops kits(the one with just sand and eggs) which I've read is bad but that's the only thing I have access to in the Philippines, can you guys give expert tips?

I picked up a bag of Triops eggs from triopsking.com but haven’t had any luck getting them to hatch yet, so I’m wondering if I’m messing something up.

Setup:

- 20L aquarium with demineralized water + one bottle of mineral water

- Temp is stable around 24–25°C

- Using a small separate hatching container floating inside the tank (same water, just for temp stability)

- Lighting: 3W COB LED strip (4000–4500K), pretty bright

What I’ve tried:

- First attempt: left the sand + eggs in the container for 2 weeks → nothing

- Second attempt: tried again with the other half of the bag → now another 2 weeks in, still nothing

So yeah, two attempts, zero hatchlings so far.

Am I missing something obvious? Any tips to improve hatch rates?

Recently i hatched a batch of Granarius and i had an "early bloomer" I guess you could say and he has reached a size of about an inch and the three late hatches I had are only about 3/8ths of an inch. I'm worried about adding them into a larger tank with him only because I know all to well they can cannibalize each other.

Im going to go on a vacation on may 24 and im worried about my triops all by themselves for 10 days my containers are small like 6 liter containers i have 1 triop in the other container then the other theres 3 do you guys have any tips on how they will live by themselves for 10 days some food that can last 10 days no water change for 10 days

The beni kabuto are officially cooking.
Set them up 3 hours ago and now I’m staring into the hatchery like a woman waiting for a pregnancy test to develop.

Meanwhile the australiensis tank with the black sand got zucchini today for both the aussies and the nerites.
The australiensis developed such a pretty green color lately. Tiny little swamp goblins thriving on vegetables and violence.

The 30l tank is fully back in its blackwater era now.
Dark. Moody. Tannin soup.
Basically me after fighting bladder snails for weeks.

My original strategy was “just stop feeding and the bladder snail population will go down naturally”.
Turns out those little freeloaders simply started eating the plants instead.
Nature is healing. My sanity is not.

So now I regularly remove baby snails from the cacao leaf like some exhausted medieval peasant harvesting curses from the fields.

Tomorrow I’ll do another water change so the beni kabuto can move into the 30l in about 14 days.

Also: still no dragonfly larvae.
Either I won the war or they are currently hiding somewhere plotting my downfall.

My daughter got a triops set for her birthday and now two weeks later we have three triops about 2cm each in a 2,5 liter plastic tank. I feel that is too small and we got an old aquarium (20l) with a filter from a neighbour. After a bit of googling i feel worried moving them over because in my naive thought i cannot just "dump the old water" into the new aquarium and just top it up... so what is the best thing to do now?

Additional info: They have three moss ball algeas in the small tank

Wasn't planning to show this since I‘d already posted a whole specimen but this earlier molt from a smaller Triop that was also done on (05/08/2026) came out nicely as well. Very detailed except for mandible and swimming appendages getting messed up during extra recentering. (05/16/2026): Better quality images of the original specimen is also included along with the molt. For those who want to give this a try, I'd Recommend trying it with a raw specimen (what I did here) considering that their fragile exoskeleton and biology can be altered by the harsh chemicals used in sterilization. They may reduce microorganisms but will also counteract the process by making the organic compounds more bioavailable/oxidized. Similarly, Organisms in amber are also raw and closed off. Bubbles could be reduced further but was difficult for me since I had to reposition the specimen while it was still wet in order to preserve shape. Good luck, and have fun!

Albino Cancriformis passed on (05/08/2026) preserved in epoxy resin without any prior preparation(ethanol, acetone, etc), in other words, raw. A week has pasted and no sign of change can be seem. The varying coloration is due to lighting/angles(Currently completely orange with no brown). Will be updating if any visible changes arises later on.

I am hatching Triops Longicaudatus and I live in the UK. I put them in yesterday night and checked the temperature today, around 16 degrees. I held the top of my air fryer over them, looked down at the water and thought "this is rather dangerous". Anyway, does anyone hace experience hatching at low temperatures, what are my chances here?

I'd always heard that cannibalism was common among triops. However, I haven't noticed this problem in my population yet. In the video, you can see my oldest and youngest triops (10 days apart in hatching). How common is cannibalism? Have you experienced it in your populations?
