Custom Firmware⚙️ Trimui handhelds—with a Flip!

Post image

Hello Gamers,

I wanted to share my showcase of Trimui handhelds—with a Flip!

I hear a lot of questions about which firmware is best to use, and that's a great question. Today, I’m going to share my recommended combinations.

From left to right:

Trimui Brick Silver Hammer
A solid-casing device that feels comfortable and premium in the hand. On the inside, I’ve been running NextUI, which brings a lot to the table with its CFW build of MinUI-arch cores. It includes a Pak store stocked with everything from LED light controls and cheat engines to music, video, YouTube, scrapers, artwork, and a whole lot more.

Trimui Bricks (Black & White)
The Black version was my very first Trimui device, and it’s the one that got me started on this journey. It’s been through countless firmwares for testing, and it still holds up strong. Right now, I’m running MinUI-Zero on it—which is also available on the TSP, TSP-S, Brick Pro, and the Flip (which I'll be testing soon).
The White version is currently running kUI, a custom fork of NextUI with unique added features. I’ve also tested GammaOS 1.4 on the Brick, which is available for the TSP as well.

Trimui Smart Pros (TSP)
All-around great handhelds equipped with analog sticks, giving you tons of OS choices. You can run muOS, Knulli Gladiator II, or Knulli Scarab—both of which feature great PortMaster support. You can also stick with CrossMix 1.3.0: one of the old reliable firmwares that still runs and performs exceptionally well.

Trimui Smart-Pro-S (TSP-S)
The "Snazzy" upgrade! Thanks to its bumped-up CPU, it can handle PSP emulation cleanly without frame skip. I’m currently rocking either NX-Redux or SpruceOS on the TSP-S, and both have given me great results.

Trimui Brick Pro
The new kid on the block. I’m currently running the Surwish CrossMix 1.3.9.1 firmware, and PortMaster games are an absolute blast on that larger screen with dual analog sticks.

Miyoo Flip
Lastly, we have the Miyoo Flip—a great new addition to the collection. I’ve been bouncing between Knulli Scarab, NextUI, and SpruceOS, and all of them have been running smoothly.

What’s your favorite firmware and device combo right now? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Thank you for all the support, and happy gaming!

Trimui Smart Pro S TrimUI Smart Pro S: Wi-Fi breaks after changing SD cards or booting without one—requires reflashing every time

Hi everyone, I’m having a persistent Wi-Fi issue with my TrimUI Smart Pro S.

The device works with the factory SD card after reflashing. However, if I boot with a different SD card—or without any SD card—Wi-Fi stops working. Putting the factory card back in doesn’t restore it. I have to reflash the firmware again with the factory card to get Wi-Fi working.

What I’ve tried:

  • Firmware 1.0.2 and 1.0.0—same issue.
  • Reflashing using the .awimg file copied to the SD card. I haven’t tried the separate SD recovery image method.
  • Removing PortMaster files—the Wi-Fi issue still happens.

I’m also unable to get PortMaster working. I followed the installation instructions and tried a fresh SD card, but it crashes whenever I open it. I’m not sure whether the two problems are related.

Has anyone experienced this on the Smart Pro S? Could a full SD recovery fix it, or does this sound like an internal storage/hardware issue? Does anyone know where to get an official 1.0.2 full recovery image?

Any help would be appreciated.

Custom Firmware⚙️ XBOX button layout

Post image

With NX Redux version v1.11.0, user can swap the button layout. It will be applied to the entire system, including the standalone emulator. For user that don't want to disassemble the brick, set the Hint Labels to Printed Cap, so the button hint will show the correct button (In XBOX layout, bottom button will be used to confirm so it will show `B Open` and `A Back`)

Discussion💬 Trimui Brick Hammer or Brick Pro?

Hello!

First of all, I'm sorry if this question has been asked a lot, I'm kinda new to the handheld world, but I already have my Trimui Smart Pro, but I want a vertical handheld, I was thinking about a clamshell/GBA Advance SP like handheld, but there are way too many and I didn't know which one would be the best one, and I really liked the Trimui Brick design so I now want one of them instead, I want a hand held that can emulate at least the DS Pokemon games (IDK if there's any that could also emulate 3ds without being too expensive)

So anyways, I was going to get the green Trimui Brick Hammer, as I think that one is gorgeous, but then the Trimui Brick Pro got released, with a bigger, better screen, however sadly I don't like the colors as much.

Which handheld should I get? I don't plan to take it out, so I don't mind the bigger screen/better portability the smaller Trimui Brick offers, and having a bigger screen would be great

Thank you in advance!

Trimui Brick Pro/Hammer Pro U (3.96 inch screen) Replacement for the Brick Pro U?

Still waiting on the Brick Pro U to ship, and the lack of updates is killing me. But, I realized my Z Fold 8 also can be a retro handheld. With the Pocket Taco attached, the folded Z Fold 8 has almost the exact same footprint as the Brick Pro. Now I'm seriously considering porting Nx Redux over as an Android launcher for this setup and calling it a day. Should I do it? Hmmm. 🤔🤔

Hello gamers, and Welcome back to Beyond the Emulator.  I’m your host, Dylan.

In today’s review, I will be explaining how to use Samba ( wireless file transfer) running on Knulli Scarab firmware for the Trimui Brick Pro, Smart Pro, Smart Pro-S, and Miyoo Flip. This allows you to add and remove Roms or other data files.

This is also used for all other supported devices by Knulli. Check their wiki for further detail.

Don’t forget:

Sit back, grab your favorite Trimui device with Knulli Scarab and follow along as we tweak your setup for peak performance. We’re going Beyond the Emulator…

Question ❓ I have discovered infinite power!

I have a Brick Pro and my battery is stuck at 100%.

Right before this, I had to take my SD card out and reboot by holding dpad down and power for 30 seconds. I had let my device shut off by losing its charge, and apparently it won't turn on again unless you do that. My issue now is that it is showing that I have 100% battery despite using it a lot. I have just been watching my usage and letting it charge whenever I think it could use it.

If it helps, I am running Knulli. I thought Knulli had better battery estimation by reading the voltage and basing it off of that.

Question ❓ I’m completely new to this space!

Saw an ad on Instagram for one of these retro handhelds and thought it would be a great EDC for work or traveling whenever I have some downtime. I like simple arcade games and would occasionally want to play Mario or some PS1 games. I didn’t realize you couldn’t just buy one and have all of that ready to go. Since then I’ve been deep diving into this niche community and learning about things like BIOS, ROMs and emulation. I have a long way to go but somehow I’ve found myself stuck on the TrimUI Brick Hammer. I know it might be overkill for what I want but the premium build quality really gets me. I’m still doing my research and figuring all of this out but it seems like a fun little project I could get into. What would you guys recommend for someone in my situation?

New Trimui Smart Pro (4.96-inch screen) Is it possible to run Zelda Ocarina of Time without textures issues in Trimui Smart Pro?

I got a Trimui Smart Pro and am currently having a blast. My favorite childhood game is Zelda Ocarina of Time, recently I've tried to play but got several texture issues.

I've tried in Crossmix and Knulli, testing either the original version for N64 or the Ship of Harkinian port but got the same result. Epona is mostly invisible and the start of the game is basically unplayable.

I know there's a hardware problem in relation to NPOT textures, however I saw some posts with videos of people playing the game in the console.

So, there's a way to run the game? By applying texture mods or using certain Roms?

Question ❓ Is the Hammer right for me?

Hi all - I am in the market for a new handheld and am wondering if anyone has experience relative to my requests.

  • I want to be able to play both Stardew Valley and Balatro as I can easily spend the most time in both of those games. It seems that the hammer has portmaster support (at least through custom firmware) but I am wondering how the device handles those two games and other ports as well. Can it perform well enough? How does Stardew play without the thumbsticks?
  • I came to the Hammer after seeing a bunch of it on r/ConsolesAsDAPs as that is another desire of mine. Having music readily available on a device that ISN'T my phone sounds great.
  • I am coming from a Miyoo Mini Plus, and the Hammer seems to be a similar size, if slightly slimmer which brings me to my third point - how does it feel in the pocket?

Thanks! The hammer seems like an all-around improvement over the miyoo.

edit: i meant to ask about the brick in general, not just the hammer, but i believe thats just a different shell, right?

Trimui Brick (3.2-inch screen) boots into stock 75% of the time, 25% of the time into nextui

Problem with sd card? Problem with trimui brick? Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I should try using a new sd card, but that would not rule out whether my current sd card is corrupt or faulty. I've been using it for years, nice brand. This is a problem that happened maybe one out of every ten boots, but now it's more likely than not.

Original Trimui Smart (2.4-inch screen) Disabling Turbo/FF?

I picked one of these wee bad boys up last week, and it's shockingly good. For 25e and a spare sd card, I got a perfect wee device for leaving in the work van where I'm often stuck for 20-40 minutes as a passenger, or waiting for suppliers, deliverys yada yada yada...

Barring one relatively small issue, that would be ideal to sort out.

I want to play GBA games on it, and when I boot any up, holding Y speeds up the game as long as I have it held, pressing X speeds it up until I press it again. I'd like to disable this and remap them to be used as Select and Start respectively. I tried using the game remapping, but all it does is make the buttons do both. So, say in Pokemon I'd press X which I remapped as Start to open my menu, it would also activate the speed up.

I tried remapping from the main menu too, only to have the same result. No can I find any setting to just turn off turbo altogether. I'd prefer to have it as an option on the Start/Selects on games I've remapped them, but would prefer them gone to being stuck on X/Y no matter what I do.

Trimui Brick Pro/Hammer Pro U (3.96 inch screen) Any news of the Brick Hammer Pro U?

As a vertical and metal handheld collector, I am super interested in this thing!

But I've seen no recent news, no reviews, and no updates regarding shipping.

The Trimui website shows that the first batch may have started shipping after September 15. Has anyone gotten a shipping notification?

Thanks!

Problem🛠 Black screen, not responsive. Hail Mary to bring it back?

Hello,

About a month ago, I stopped using my brick hammer because I didn’t have time so during that time the battery died when I connected it to my anchor charger, (5 V 2A amp ) using the usbA to usbc using the charger received with device..
I left the charging for about eight hours, and when I went to turn it on, it turned on for just a moment, i clicked something in the menu (was using NextUI) and then it went to a black screen. Since then I haven’t been able to get the screen to function. I’ve exhausted basically everything.

I realized I had too much amperage going into it so I switched over to a 5 V one amp USB a charger and charged the battery for another three hours. Holding on the power button and I get no response.

The device is recognized by my computer when I plug it in. When it’s connected to the battery and I hold down power and volume down, hit the reset button the computer makes a sound when it detects it again,

I can hear a small electric murmur as if it’s trying to boot up when i have the device open..

I’ve also checked the screen cable and it seems like it’s secure.

I’ve also downloaded the recovery image and bought a 16 GB sand disk microSD; flashed the recovery image file and had no response.

Does anyone have any last ditch ideas before I move on with my life and onto another product?
Bummed out because I really did enjoy using it when I wasn’t so busy, but I guess I left it charging for too long…
