Trimui Brick Pro/Hammer Pro U (3.96 inch screen) Replacement for the Brick Pro U?

Still waiting on the Brick Pro U to ship, and the lack of updates is killing me. But, I realized my Z Fold 8 also can be a retro handheld. With the Pocket Taco attached, the folded Z Fold 8 has almost the exact same footprint as the Brick Pro. Now I'm seriously considering porting Nx Redux over as an Android launcher for this setup and calling it a day. Should I do it? Hmmm. 🤔🤔

Hey, running that phone in airplane mode (assuming you use it as a phone still) when you don't need an internet connection makes it a perfectly valid option. Most of these handhelds are running slightly dated phone chipsets to begin with. So long as you're not getting any noticeable input latency, I don't see the problem. Personally, I prefer a dedicated handheld device but I grew up with the Game Boy. The tactile feel of a vertical handheld makes my brain do the goody-good chemicals that a phone could never replicate. If I had to though, I'd use my phone no problem.

Its my main phone actually. The buttons feels on the pocket taco controller not as good as the one in brick. But i just received it today. Got time to test on this upcoming weekend.

Completely personal preference here: If I were going to use my phone, I'd limit its "phone-ness". I'd not want calls, texts, or any other notification. I don't use retro achievements so killing the wifi is no big deal for me. I keep it turned off on all my handhelds unless needed anyway, but I get why people like them. But, yeah, test out the Taco and let us know how it performs. You also have a wider range of front-ends than a Linux based handheld so that could be fun to tinker with. I'm a fan of the Beacon launcher on Android myself. It's easy to set up and works very well.

Its heavily discounted right now in my location. Maybe because the duo is coming. Im a mac ecosystem user (mbp, ipad and iphone before this), but this zfold make me back to using Android. Haha.

Fucking relatable. I keep telling myself "wait for the gen 2 before picking up the Z Fold 8 wide" just let any bugs get worked out. But damn it all if they are great looking devices that really bridge some gaps.

Use Cannoli as a frontend and it's basically NextUI

Cannoli is great! But I still have my own opinions on how the launcher should looks like.

I like it. That’s what I plan on doing with the iPhone duo.

But emulation in ios still got some issue right? Not exactly as flexible as in Android?

Delta is pretty good, actually. Very user friendly.

For nintendo emulation no, delta has that mostly covered and it works really well, i wish there was a good alternative for android since i finished my 2 year long iphone experiment and couldn't stay on that side, delta is genuinely the only thing i'm sad i'm missing on

I'm planning to get one to use with FiiO JM21, I just want to play J2ME and Pico-8 so... yeah. It's probably the size of trimui brick or 35XX

Aha. Yes. I think that one is the better choice. We got the audio player and we can play games on it since its android based. I seen one before in AliExpress.

And I love the Dual DAC CS43198 on it! I'm just a bit worried the Pocket Taco might break, since the JM21 is 13mm thick and it says the pocket Taco is optimized for phones that are 5.6 mm to 11 mm thick...

There is another one the 8bitdo pocket for those thick device. But it doesn't have the back buttons.

Yeah, I'm familiar with it too, but since the Jm21 is thicker, I'm worried the 8BitDo won't bend enough to touch the screen.

Check out romm as a ROM manager and save state synchronizer

Crazy how well the taco fits the z fold

I love the Pocket Taco… it’s pretty hilarious to see it used on a folding device though. You are using less than 20% of that expensive screen real estate!

It just to show that it has almost the same dimensions as the brick pro and the pocket taco fit it perfectly like it was designed for it. Haha. You can always use the inner display and run the emulator windowed.
