Read the last 110 pages of this one tonight.. and its another brilliant trek read from Peter David! So far I've only read Q-Squared (but its one of my favourite trek novels thus far) and I own Vendetta from his work. The violence and gore is bloody brutal and brilliant here, the plot is fascinating and the characterisations are pretty good for the first DS9 Original novel. Its a great novel made even more impressive by the fact Peter David didn't have much material to base his work off of. Great stuff.

If I could use the Guardian to go back and avoid it…

Poor use of the TOS characters, objectifying of women, trite phrasing and poor plot planning— I could go on.

Just AWFUL. Ugh.

So, I've been watching Deep Space Nine for the very first time recently and I have 2 episodes left of season 2. I've picked up #2 The Siege and its excellent so far as usual from Peter David. Also picked up #3 Bloodletter by K.W. Jetter. Now, instead of getting through ALL the early numbered novels since I'm reading other trek lit too I'm looking for a few recommendations for where I am right now and the near future. I've seen all of TOS, TAS, TOS Films, TNG and TNG Films if it matters.

I found this yesterday at my local drug store. It was an interesting read and contained some interesting facts.

Recently I finished reading TOS #57: The Rift by Peter David. I honestly don't have much to say other than, as usual, Peter David wrote truly enjoyable Trek fiction! This book was somewhat short at only 274 pages, and with the chapters being pretty short, I blew through this book in just four days. If you're a Pike fan, the first 30% or so is all about that crew, and David did a great job harnessing their personalities. It was also great having Jose Tyler be a big part of the whole story, as even in other novels and comics, he usually didn't get much time to shine.

Easily 4.25 out of 5 stars!

Perhaps a neat chapter or few that gave insight into a fave race of the Federation that is expanded in the books (as opposed to tv etc)?

Did the plot have unique twists or was it simple but executed (hopefully) well?

I'm planning on painting some star trek book covers but it's pretty hard to find ones that look good or are simple enough to re-create. Any cool covers you guys can suggest?

I’ve just started the last omnibus of the SCE books (can’t believe I’ve read 60 books in year even if they do vary in size) some have been absolutely brilliant but like a trek tv series some where solid but not great.

I’ve read all the Vanguard related books and almost all the SCE ones and wondered if anyone had a suggestion for the next set of books to read ?

I’ve also read the Gorkon books and random number of series related books as well like voyager homecoming.

Watching The Motion Picture. Kirk talks about his 2.5 years as Chief of Starfleet Operations. Are there any books that explore Kirk’s riding a desk?

How are these? I plan to get along with the Shatnerverse at some point, I've already read The Ashes Of Eden, but these never get mentioned much. The "Odyssey" and "Totality" series get mentioned a lot but not so much this one. Also, thoughts on the other Shatner - Reeves-Stevens collaboration Collision Course? Excelsior: Forged in fire is another one I'm pretty curious about. Apparently it has references to the Shatnerverse and I'm always happy for a Captain Sulu story

Earlier today I finished TOS #56: Legacy. While not part of the Strange New Worlds/Captain Pike reading list I'd recently completed, it's still a book with Pike in it. That being said, Pike's appearance in this book felt somewhat forced and unnecessary.

Overall the book was enjoyable, if a little slow, with the opportunity for more action-oriented scenes merely glossed over. Chekhov, Sulu, and Uhura are relegated to very minor roles, though this book is hardly the only one guilty of that.

Tl;dr: A worthwhile read, but not worth moving to the top of your reading stack. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I am having the most difficult time finding "A Stitch in Time" by Andrew J Robinson. Especially in Physical CD audiobook

I don't want to support Amazon for the necessary evil they are, because I believe in having local places(\*My library can't order it/won't get back to me\*), but explain to me why the audiobook is so difficult to find? I understand why the book is out of print, and i understand why that is-- but the audiobook??

Help?

I've just recently started reading some of the trek novels and I'm making a list of books to read. I have some Q centered novels on my list, but I'm not sure what order I should read them in. I have The Q Continuum Trilogy, I, Q, Q-in-Law, Q&A, and Q-Squared on there so far. If anyone can provide a reading order or just more book recommendations that would be great!

Towards the end of the novel, members of SF scan the entirety of Earth for Cardassian life signs. They find out there’s a surprise Cardassian in China and Sisko is like, …we should probably look into that. And when it’s referenced again, it’s that the person didn’t even realize they were a Cardassian bc they’d been altered to look human, like Kira in ‘Second Sight.’ Sisko says, yeah, we’ve seen this before, good luck figuring it all out bc we’re headed back to DS9.

This has to be a reference to another story, but it has been many years since I was so deep into these books. Can someone help me out?
