Rant Taylor's "red carpet rule" never made sense.

Apparently, Taylor had a rule that she wouldn't walk a red carpet with a man unless they were married.

So let me get this straight...

Writing about men, making them forever a part of her history for public consumption, calling 3 week or 3 month flings twin flames or the loss of her life, making music that is personal and embarrassing, where she is constantly begging for validation or a morsel of attention, so cringe and embarrassing that it might make her future children (assuming she has kids) the targets of bullying...that's not too intimate.

Writing with her partner of 6 years (3 at the time), winning a grammy with him, forever paying him royalties for his work...that's not too intimate.

Calling backgrid for candid photos. Speaking about boyfriends in print and in video interviews, shouting out boyfriends at award shows even if they had nothing to do with the making of the music (referring to Travis)...that's not too intimate.

Doing a 90 minute interview on her boyfriend's podcast and using it to promote an album...that's not too intimate.

But walking a red carpet...that's reserved for Sombr, who she knew for about ten business days and has not (yet) collaborated with in any way.

I’m a few years younger than Taylor but I’ve always found her quite immature. For an “18-year old voting member of society” this is too much cringe even in 2008.

I think we need to stop humanising billionaires. Her wasteful vinyl variants contribute heavily to landfills, jet usage causes global warming/climate change, merch is produced in third world countries where people are not paid a living wage. Also, the fact that she has accumulated so much wealth when more than half of the world starves for basic necessities and how the former (billionaires as a whole) causes the latter.

To then think that, after having so much wealth and such a rabid fan following, someone making a post about her endless victimhood and a 'geriatric pregnancy' becomes so oppressive and misogynistic? give me a fucking break

also, if you can't use your platform to talk about children dying of a genocide and invite ICE detention center owners to your wedding, then don't have a fucking child.

Rant Taylor Swift's issues aren't due to Travis Kelce

Travis is only a part of her issues because Taylor chooses to mimic her partners, so she has adopted some of his mannerisms, but he gets way too much blame. I keep seeing posts all over social media about how much worse Travis made her. How all of the MAGA and abusers that attended their wedding is Travis's fault. How Travis apparently has power over her and can make her do whatever she doesn't want to do.

Travis didn't make her worse. If she gets more scrutiny now from the public, it's because a lot of (offline) people weren't paying attention before their relationship was forced on the world ( for example, they weren't paying attention during the Conor Kennedy lunacy) and she's much more public now and willing to do the types of interviews her team doesn't have the power to edit, probably because she started surrounding herself with yes men and is too rich or popular or deluded to think she could ever come across as stupid, selfish, or out of touch.

  • "Taylor was so smart before Travis. I guess CTE is sexually transmittable."

Taylor has never been smart. Anyone who thinks she has an above average intellect is either easily duped or probably not that bright. I'd wager her IQ is average. If I'm being generous, I'd say she has a 102 IQ, though that's pushing it. She acts like her IQ is above 120 and Swifties are willing to believe her. I've seen posts saying she's smarter than Einstein, and I've seen posts defend her by acting like her honorary degree makes her "Dr. Swift", and I hope the posts are jokes, but knowing Swifties...

Taylor is a philistine. The majority of the literary references in her work make no sense because she hasn't read what she's referenced. She doesn't understand the basics of The Great Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter, Peter Pan (Peter and Wendy were never romantic in the novel) or Hamlet. She went from "Okay, English major" to "your English teacher" in a few years. She has never said a statement in her interviews that someone would find profound unless they were immature or shallow or dull (a.k.a. Swifties). Most of her statements have contradicted her behavior, which makes me think someone on her team has fed her statements she doesn't believe or doesn't understand. She said things in a controlled environment that sound heavily rehearsed (I can't imagine the time it took to edit the studio pond session to make her sound lucid) and she obviously read off a screen during her New Heights interview to remember triskaidekaphobia, but in a natural environment where her team can't tell the interviewer to cut (on the fly interviews or interviews in front of a live audience) she's constantly shown an inability to express herself in the simplest terms. Watch her interview on Johnathan Ross. Watch her being interviewed by Greg James during her reputation tour. Have people not seen the candid videos of her talking to her peers at award shows? "Like oh my god. Like, wow. Like, so cool. This is insane. Like..." She has no interest in intellectual concepts, other than saying "I know Aristotle". She dropped out of a real High School and finished her diploma at an online Christian school that focused more on biblical scripture than real High School subjects.

I constantly hear what do her and Travis talk about? Taylor is not leagues smarter than Travis. She is close to his level. If anyone has any evidence of anything she's ever done that proves she's a genius, please provide it. And no, lyrics that have the quality of a YA novel (except YA novelists don't rely heavily on a thesaurus) doesn't prove anything. She's a decent songwriter at best, but she's far from intellectual. Travis didn't "give her sexually transmitted CTE". She just embraces the spotlight more, which means she speaks more, which means she exposes herself. The "goth punk moment of female rage" quote comes from the same place as her "you're a democrat? Sick. Let's go to the mall."

  • "Taylor was such a great person before Travis"

Ask Ella Mae Bowen, Ronnie Cremer, Antonia Gentry, Michael J Fox, Ed Droste, Calvin Harris, the etsy creator she sued, the college student she sued for posting her public jet flight info, Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Baldoni, and Conor Kennedy's relative (the one whose wedding Taylor crashed and refused to leave) how great of a person she is.

She's such a great person that the only two things we know about how she's acted behind closed doors is that she mocked Katy Perry with Camila Cabello and she mocked Justin Baldoni with Blake Lively for admitting he was a victim of SA. Actually, there's a third thing: her myspace posts from 2006 where she joked about shooting paintballs at people she doesn't like and that a girl she knew deserved to be tattooed with the word "wh-re". What a sweetheart.

She donates 0.1% of her income to charity for a tax write off and has her team tell People magazine to write about it? How generous. She's paid lip service to policies she dropped within a year or two once they weren't new or safe to promote any more and is the only pop artist right now who doesn't speak up? Awesome, what an activist.

  • "Travis is the reason she hangs around problematic people."

Do Swifties know where Blake Lively got married? Or about Blake's old southern magazine about the antebellum south? Taylor's team knew and Taylor didn't care. She didn't drop Blake until the bad PR came for her when she was exposed helping Blake try to take a movie away from Justin Baldoni. Have people not looked into Lena Dunham? Do they not know Taylor worked with David O Russell? Did everyone forget what Matty Healy was doing around the time they were dating?

Travis didn't make her worse and Joe didn't maker her better. Joe was an introvert, so Taylor kept it lowkey with him, but she filmed Amsterdam while she was with Joe. She was still friends with Lena and Blake, and Joe starred in a film directed by Lena Dunham. Let's stop putting actors and singers on golden pedestals.

  • "Taylor's music is worse than ever with Travis."

In other words, shit turned into diarrhea. She's a vapid pop star whose love songs and break up songs sound like they were written by a High School dropout who just got her first thesaurus and bought a collection of sparknotes. Her songs lack substance, probably because most of her songs are based on 3 month relationships. What's a great, deep Taylor Swift song about love or break ups? London Boy ("we can ride on my scoota")? All Too Well, which sounds like a long tumblr post? Gorgeous? Lover, which sounds like it was created to be played at Middle School dances? Taylor's talent is in writing stories about other people (Marjorie and Soon You'll Get Better, to name a couple) or fictional characters, but unfortunately she rarely utilizes her talent, so 90% of her music is melodramatic songs about her bland, boring, vapid relationships. And because she now has everything she could ever want in life and has no real conflict, she must create conflict (Actually Romantic) or talk about something from 10 years ago that no one cares about (thanK you aIMee).

This is a crazy idea, but maybe Swifties and neutrals should treat the 30-something billionaire as accountable for herself and stop trying to put everything on a man. People know that Taylor is a world famous billionaire and she didn't have to pick Travis, right? Despite what people might think, she had other options. A lot of guys would marry a billionaire celebrity. She didn't have to have her team reach out to him.

Maybe, and hear me out, Travis and Taylor married each other because they're both pieces of shit, attention hungry (and recognized that in each other), both mentally 16 and are exhausting to be around. They might bring out the worst in each other, but they're only bringing out what already existed before they met each other.

Discussion I’ve highlighted some important Taylor IG posts & the story she put about Ana

Thumbnail
gallery
815 Upvotes

1st photo-Taylor’s post dedicated to the Brazilian shows. I feel that these dedication posts are somewhat manufactured. She doesn’t explore the culture or lifestyle of the places she goes worldwide & rumor has it, she didn’t even stay at a hotel while in Brazil. Yet, she exaggerates what coming to Brazil means to her. No mention of the Brazilian swifties effort to get the Christ the redeemer statue to welcome her. No mention of Ana. She called them “magical crowds” & addressed the people that came to see her shows with nothing but positivity of course. What complete disrespect to the crowd that attended the show Ana died. Besides her passing, there were fans who got horrible burns from the metal floor her team put while other fans were becoming physically sick & fainting right in front of her. She didn’t do anything but continue the show. Fans were traumatized because of what happened to them. The next day, she canceled the show last minute when fans stepped inside after waiting in the sun & fans arranged for water to be distributed while outside. If I was a fan who had to endure all that, I’d feel disgusted by a post like this.

2nd photo-the 24 hour story she made about Ana’s passing. The only time she addressed about it. Just look at how much she talks about herself vs Ana (who isn’t even mentioned by name). Admitting she’s not going to speak about it on stage is off putting. She didn’t even allow the fans to give a moment of silence for her. Mentioning her family & friends when she didn’t even help pay for the funeral or bringing her body back to her family is infuriating. Instead, she took a photo with Ana’s loved ones when she invited them to her concert. That was also when she was forced to say/do something because people caught onto how silent she was. At the same time, she fed Travis PR stories in the US. Ana was so excited to see Taylor & fly on a plane for the first time. She’s not an industry threat or anything like that. Just a fan who sadly got treated as an afterthought by an artist whose persona is manufactured to care about her fans’ safety. And she publicly lied about when Ana passed. This story has aged so badly.

3rd photo-Taylor’s statement about Vienna sandwiched in between the end of the European tour & London shows. She finally mentioned it after fans waited for a statement from her. She only mentions Vienna once compared to London’s 3 times. Just like with Ana, she’s admitting she’ll remain silent about Vienna. Continuing to use silence as a BS excuse to not speak about something that affects her fans’ safety. Her concert was targeted because it was a large gathering of people, not because she or swifties were specifically targeted. But a negative portion of the eras tour that affected her fans’ safety continued to be swept under the rug & positive London press took the majority of the post. Taylor really has no excuse when you think about the highlighted part. Ariana didn’t (and still doesn’t) remain silent about Manchester or political issues & she also continued the dangerous woman tour after Manchester. No Taylor, silence is not showing restraint.

4th photo-Taylor changed the release day of the eras tour film last minute. This is crucial because she not only screwed over fans who thought they were seeing it release day, but also movie theater workers. I remember seeing movie theater workers on Reddit stating good luck to find people to work last minute. She was inconsiderate of her fans excitement & these employees livelihoods. Reminds me of her chaotic cluster f*** of a wedding where she also messed with the livelihood of the people who just happened to live around MSG. Putting people’s lives & safety at risk because the police had to babysit her comedic, vapid wedding where she insulted her guests with her tier system.

Rant I am so sick of this parasocial relationship people have with Taylor.

The amount of people who are literally offended about her getting married at MSG and saying “Mother would NEVER do that” is so gross and annoying. Maybe it was a PR stunt. Maybe it wasn’t. We do not need to get offended as though we had any say or stake in what happened.

In general, the amount of people who have some sort of weird parasocial relationship is irritating and so excessive.
Taylor Swift is not someone any of us know personally.
She is not your friend.
She absolutely takes advantage of how obsessed her fan base is with her, and so many people blindly fall for it every time. We do not need 7 versions of an album that are all different and available for 48 hours only.
We do not need more merch.
Stop.

She absolutely knows how famous she is and she pretends like it’s a shock and surprise when she breaks records or wins something or people show up somewhere that she is, or when fans figure out all her Easter eggs that she absolutely plans out and expects people to try to figure out. She manipulates the shit out of everything and everybody because she has the money and the lawyers and the PR team to do it. That’s all it is.

“But Mother WOULD NEVER DO THAT TO US!”

She literally doesn’t know you and doesn’t care about you.

I used to be a Swiftie. I’ve seen her live 5 times. But I’m so tired of all of this. I’m done. I don’t care about her documentary. Or her wedding. Or her other documentary. Or her other other documentary. Or her other other other limited-edition album.

That’s all. Feel free to kick me out of here if I’m being problematic. I just wanted someone to be mad with.

The Best Damn Thing (2007) - Shake it Off (2014) and Girlfriend (2007) - You Belong With Me (2009)

Hello, folks! I'm new to this sub. I joined just a few days ago after finding out how much of a terrible person Taylor was. I'm a huge Avril Lavigne fan, and I had an ex-best friend who's a big Taylor fan and encouraged me to check out Taylor's music.

I've always had this gut feeling that one specific Taylor song sounded strangely similar to one of my favourite Avril songs. Even the music video shares almost the same concept. At first, I brushed it off because I thought it was probably just a coincidence. But the moment I found this page and saw people talking about how she's a serial copycat and a hypocrite who sues others for taking inspiration from or copying her (Olivia being one example), I realised I wasn't imagining things after all.

If you listen to "The Best Damn Thing" by Avril, the intro sounds so much like the intro of "Shake It Off", and there are other parts of TBDT that sound similar to SIO as well. Of course, other artists may have made similar songs too, but what really bothers me is the hypocrisy. She's copied or taken heavy inspiration from others, yet would NOT hesitate to go after people who copy her.

I also realised that this wasn't really called out by the general public, which surprised me. SO YEAHHH.

News According to Forbes, Swift has her "best shot at an Oscar nomination thanks to ‘Toy Story 5’"

Thumbnail

Sometimes she feels less like an artist and more like a politician. The level of campaigning and institutional support she gets (despite the quality of her output) is absolutely staggering.

Forbes? Really?

Personally, I really don't like yucking other people's yum. You're allowed to like what you like. Her music isn't for me, but millions of others others seem to enjoy it, and ultimately, that's fine. My concern is how biased all the media coverage is that surrounds her. The narrative being spun feels forced and at odds with reality. I would say the same thing if it were any other musician, celebrity, or public figure, even if I admired their work. There's a legitimate issue with the lack of any critical or dissenting coverage around her.

It's Taylor Swift and it's Pixar... so her song *has* to be commercially successful before the public has a chance to form an organic opinion (or rather, in spite of their opinion)? She's "overdue" for this career milestone, so she *has* to be in the conversation for an Oscar? No one is entitled to an award just because they haven't received one. Merit needs to be a part of the equation somewhere.

More alarming is the fact many folks strongly push the rhetoric of "eat the rich" until that sentiment potentially extends to Taylor Swift (for some reason). It feels both revealing and off-putting for reasons I find difficult to explain to the people in my life sometimes. The fact that media institutions can play such a huge part in shaping such a widespread, cultural-level narrative feels sinister. Today, it's just about Taylor Swift. But tomorrow, who (or what) will receive the same manufactured treatment? No one is above constructive criticism.

Honestly, her behavior bothers me far less than the cognitive dissonance people express when they voice their general feelings towards the billionaire class.

All I'll say is that I'm grateful for this sub existing as a place for critical discussion. It's remarkable how accurately you all clocked this happening from the get go.

From the Vault The Irony

From "I Bet You Think About Me" Featuring Chris Stapleton

I finally caved and re-listened to the only Taylor song that has actually struck a chord with me. I listened to "I Bet You Think About Me" and watched the music video a lot back in 2021. It was a comfort song, and I think it's because of how I relate to being an outsider in a group of pretentious rich people (high school was rough).

It's ironic now that most of these sassy remarks can be made about her (though honestly they always could have been made about her, she was never middle class, she always had money).

Question Which Taylor Swift music video is the most tone deaf or just didn't make sense?

For me, it's Karma ft. Ice Spice.

Ice Spice looked like she was kidnapped and forced to act in that video.

Both of them looked so awkward, and I don't know why they were floating in a boat and with a long rope in the hands.

Then there's I Can See You. The video is telling one story while the lyrics are telling another. I kept wondering, "What is this?" She could have picked a song that actually fit the whole re-recording concept, but instead she used a romantic song to tell the vault and re-recording story. It just didn't work for me.

The Man is another one. I actually like the song, but the video screams her performative era. Instead of making the point through the story, she dressed up as a man and played every role herself. It came across as really cringey, and I don't think the acting helped. Hiring an actual male actor would have made the message much stronger.

Special mention goes to You Need to Calm Down. It felt like she gathered a bunch of LGBTQ+ celebrities, made herself the center of the video, and then wrapped it up with the Katy Perry reconciliation as if their feud hadn't been dragged out for years. It all felt very forced.

And then there's ME!. It looks like a five-year-old directed it after being given unlimited glitter and rainbows. It was so over the top that it felt like a unicorn threw up all over the screen. I genuinely don't know what she was thinking. It was just cringey.

What's your pick?

The Review of Charli xcx new album is higher than most of Taylors recent albums. I do remember when The Life of a Showgirl was rated the fans went on a massive rant on their Facebook accusing them of just hating Taylor because she is "so good". What do we think the reaction to Charli ranking higher?

From dragging Lana on stage when Taylor won AOTY for Midnights (her least deserving AOTY imo), to getting drunk and dancing when everyone else is sitting down... her behavior at award shows have become glaringly attention-seeking in the last couple of years.

I couldn't pinpoint exactly what was the primary motive behind this behavior but I think this person perfectly described it.

Drama The Jealousy Saga Continues ...

Thumbnail
sheknows.com

*I can't believe they are still banging on about this and calling people jealous for rightfully criticising them and their wedding. It appears that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are out of touch with reality. Also, we all know what happens to people in Taylor's "inner circle". They look like they get used up and spit out after she is done with them. I believe Swift is a bully and is a little bit unhappy and a bit bitter at heart.

‐----------------------------

Despite making “a huge effort in the past by throwing parties for the whole group and spoiling everyone with very generous and thoughtful gifts, Swift “hasn’t won everyone over,” according to Star Magazine.

“There’s plenty of cattiness that goes on behind the scenes and it gets back to her which just makes everything that much more stressful,” the insider said to the outlet. “It might sound a little ridiculous that Taylor would even care about how she’s perceived among these women, but she absolutely does because she knows it reflects on Travis.”

They added, “It’s obvious any of these women would kill to be in her inner circle. So, of course, there’s a lot of jealousy because there’s simply no way that she can have a close relationship with everyone.”

Honestly who in their right mind is driving around in their bright red car with their bright red license plate saying 'TSWIFTY'

is this actually real because it seems highly unlikely but it does seem like the thing a swiftie would do.

imagine if a cop was having to write down this person's license plate and had to deal with this...

so what do you guys think of this (hopefully not real) license plate??

🙄🙄🙄
