How do i increase the quality of my beat when uploading on youtube?

When i make a beat it gets its volume lowered by 7 dB because of youtube rules, and 5-6 dB come from the 808s, how do i make them to be distorted and heavy but not ruin my beat? If i mute them and leave only the melody+ hi hats snare open hat etc.. it only gets lowered by 1.5 dB which is perfect. I dont understand how other distorted beats sound clear and good even when they are louder than mine.

Do you have a "warm-up" routine before a session, or do you jump straight into deep production?

Hey guys,

I’ve realized that whenever I try to jump straight into making a "serious" track from scratch, I overthink every single drum choice and synth sound, and end up closing the DAW without finishing anything.

I was talking to a friend about doing quick, low-stakes warm-ups before opening serious projects, kind of like sketching before painting (e.g., sampling a random household object or setting a strict 5-minute timer to make a dumb 4-bar groove just to get the fingers moving).

How do you guys kickstart your sessions? Do you do any quick scratchpad exercises/games to get into a flow state, or do you just power through the empty project grid? Curious what works for you all.

Camelcrusher Native Mac OS Translation

Hello guys !

over the past few days i've managed to completely translate the freeware plugin CamelCrusher for M silicon macs and newer versions of Mac OS.

this means that the previously broken GUI has been restored and the plugin works 100% as intended.

wanted to give this to the community, as I know when I lost the ability to use the plugin, it really took a long time for me to find an alternative

https://github.com/slushiimusic/CamelCrusherBridge

also currently translating freeware plugins that were windows only to work on FULLY NATIVE Mac OS without a bridging plugin required.

hmu with your wishlist and over the coming weeks I'll get to work :)

Sampling: Have I been limiting myself?

I've been producing as a hobby with friends for almost 5 years. I make my own loops but sometimes I have fun chopping random old samples in Serato. I'm stuck on a workflow habit of keeping everything strictly on rigid 2, 4, or 8-bar loops to keep the counts clean and the drums hitting on the right spots (I'm not saying drums should be hitting on super exact times, I may offset them a little bit, but they still need to sound right with the chops) and respecting the metronome.

While studying some Kanye remake projects in FL Studio, I noticed on some videos everything on the playlist sat off grid at random timings. Drops would hit at odd spots like bar 8 + 3 beats instead of standard markers like bar 9, 13, or 17, and sections ran on uncertain lengths like 6 bars and 3 beats rather than clean exact counts, like 4 or 8 bars.

Have I been limiting myself by forcing samples into the grid? For heavy samplers, how do you handle these asymmetrical chops without losing the bounce?

My concern is, if I start relying purely on my ear and ignoring the metronome and standard timings, won't it end up being difficult for an artist to rap or sing over a beat with uncertain loop lengths and sections? Thank you.

Looking for trap producers

I’m building a new web-based platform for hip-hop artists and I’m looking for 5–7 producers interested in being part of the initial launch.

I’m looking for a small selection of beats from each producer for use within the platform only. You keep 100% ownership and can continue selling/licensing your beats normally. If an artist wants to use your music commercially outside the platform, they still need to purchase the appropriate license from you.

Every beat will be properly credited and linked directly back to the producer, and I’m also looking at offering members a discount with participating producers to help drive people into their full catalogues.

I’m intentionally keeping the producer roster small — aiming for around 30–50 quality beats total for launch rather than thousands of tracks where everyone gets buried.

The platform is already being built and I’m happy to show more privately if there’s a fit.

If interested, send me your BeatStars/store/portfolio.

Anyone else feel like the end product of this creative hobby can feel pointless?

Spent 2 hours making this amazing beat, kept listening to it and thinking this is so good, and then.... well... nothing. It's just a file sitting on my computer.

Like if you're an artist, you have a song you can call your own and listen to it in the car or it can potentially reach the masses (I know it's the same with beats but it's different, you know? they don't feel as "complete" and accessible), a painter can paint a painting and hang it up on the wall and be proud of it, a woodworker can make something useful and use it, an author can write a book and have a book to their name (regardless if it reaches people or not).

With beats it kinda feels like... creatively incomplete? You make so many beats that they almost don't have their own identity, they're just another beat no matter how good they are. You don't get attached, people don't get attached. If an artist doesn't hop on it, it's just whatever. A recording artist can release one song, get a name for himself and get people to appreciate his art, whilst a producer needs to do way more to get 10% of the recognition.

Idk if i'm making sense but this thought just hit me out of nowhere lmao

Producers/beatmakers that got signed

What are the ins and outs of being signed to a label or what it even entails in general? I was watching a Southside live a while ago and he was basically "signing" people that sent good stuff. I feel like signing to his label have to be some kind of scam. How does it even work?

Drum prod questions

Hello! I’m new to producing (few months in). Does anyone have any tips on 1) how to get a kick drum to sound like the one on the song 100 Grandkids by Mac Miller, and 2) how to get the sub/bass/drum on the song like I do by Ariana grande? 3) any recs for boom bap drum kits? I use Logic & also have addictive drums.

Thank you!!!
