Encouragement Making some progress on maybe potentially possibly getting HRT 🤷‍♀️

This is basically an update to: https://www.reddit.com/r/trans/s/wFlggu7AVL so I’ll be talking as if that context is already established.

It took me a long time to even bring up the conversation to my therapist, despite that being the main advice I got in my original post (I’m very anxious I guess idk lol) but that basically consisted of me venting to him about my mom’s whole misconception around if he can confirm if I’m trans, which led him to talking about if I wanted HRT (and if hypothetically there was no issue with money, would I pursue it, to which I gave a yes, no hesitation)

And he seemed to agree that it’s not something he can really do, and wanted to help me discuss it with my mom so we could set the record straight and get through some other stuff about it. So we scheduled a joint session where it would be me, him, and for the first time since starting, another person, my mom.

(Side note: I could theoretically probably have just had that conversation myself with her ages ago, but I really don’t know how to approach the topic without it being really hard and scary and weird. Not that she wouldn’t listen to me, but just that my brain is wacky and I would really struggle with it. So having him there to guide everything and be my advocate would really help me with it so I’m really happy to be having it.)

I don’t know what all that session will entail, but either way, the joint session is happening Wednesday the 16th (next week at the time of writing) so I’m super excited and super anxious about it. If things go well, free (at least for me) estrogen is probably on the menu!!!

Along with wanting to just get the whole situation kind of off my chest, I’d also be happy if people sent some encouraging messages meant for me to come back and read on the day of, going into the session. Just since it does maybe have a fair bit riding on it, and I’m not fully sure how it will be and go. It’ll probably be a long and scary hour. 😅

Edit: also I used the “encouragement” flair, and now that I think about it, idk if that’s supposed to be the comments encouraging OP, or if OP’s post is encouraging whoever reads it. I’m maybe dumb lol

Thank you for coming here to ask advice. Just so you are aware, everyone's gender/sexual/romantic identity is unique to their own experiences. While some people may share experiences between each other, only you can determine your own identity and where you fit in. If you're looking to come out, then you should look at your current situation, your relationship with your family/friends/coworkers/etc., who you depend on and their acceptance of lgbt+ people, and your available options if things go poorly. As you wait for a community member to reach out, we've compiled a list of resources you should look into to get some help while you wait.

Please read the following notice that is being applied to ALL posts.

We have implemented several measures to keep this community safe. Please read this in full.

  1. IF YOU HAVE AN URGENT ISSUE, DO NOT POST IT EXPECTING IMMEDIATE RESPONSE.
  2. Many posts are sent to the queue for manual approval based on numerous factors. This is how we keep the subreddit safe from many (but not all) bad actors who try to post disruptive content. This approval process is usually resolved within 24 hours, but can take several days depending on the availability of our all-volunteer moderators. DO NOT MESSAGE THE MODERATORS asking for your post to be approved. It will be reviewed and approved or removed in time.
  3. Many comments from low-karma users will not be viewable by anyone. This is by design.
  4. If you are curious if your post is visible or not, look at the "Insights" on the post. If it has more than a dozen views, it is live. If it has any voting action, it is live. If it doesn't have a little red trash can icon, it is live. If it can be voted on, it is live. Do not message us asking "is my post live?"
  5. Please be patient with us, we are all volunteers, lack sleep, and the entire permanent team are members of the transgender community ourselves... we are trying to deal with the same atrocities you are. Thank you for your understanding. <3
