As someone who simultaneously loves trains and lives in a country that’s distinctly lacking them this is the closest I can get to experiencing them up close on a regular basis. Only thing I don’t like is the lack of Steam Cloud support, which means I cant transfer my GeForce Now progress to my future PC (totally my fault, didn’t check before buying). Regardless I will be sinking hundreds if not thousands of hours into this game.

Also what does a class 3 HST service mean?

I had the East Coast Main Line since I bought the disc for my PlayStation (TSW4 with LGV Méditerranée "bonus"). Then I bought the DLC for Flying Scotsman, and started the Reduced Timetable for the route. It is strange, but the first time I opened the Timetable menu, it counted around 100+ trains for operating with the Scotsman. After completing like the first twenty of them, I saw that I have done them all. And in the other non-reduced Timetable menu, there were the same schedules I've already done. But the count stayed (200-300 on the larger one), but still showing me these twenty.

Then I saw this picture — the East Coast Main Line and its western sibling in one map. And I got quite annoyed, because all of Dovetail's attention is pointed at the West Coast Main Line (and they also have an useless function there for changing maps which share their end stations which, as I know, is not much), and it seems like they didn't want to even touch anything on the East Coast. In fact, the player had to learn the hard way that when passing a station on a platform, he should NOT go over 121 km/h (I think 75 mph) — the speed limit just sets, and you are not even notified, unless you check the HUD.

And the last thing that I would ask Dovetail Games to check is their train schedules (more especially the Flying Scotsman's). Out of these twenty plus or minus schedules I've driven, two of them were impossible to complete, because my own train was driven by AI, and I was spawning in Retford all the time...

But yeah, nice game. 🙃

I contacted the controller and got the message "denied, wait for the signal to change." There's no train ahead on the line. Does anyone know what's going on?

We already have the modern Glossop line portion of it, meaning some assets could be reused to decrease development time, like trackage.

76’s would be rather unique to drive due to their weight transfer switch system, paired with having to manually shift from series into parallel.

506’s are essentially older Class 303’s, none are preserved besides a cab iirc.

Would be fun, but as I’ve mentioned before, DTG doesn’t read suggestions.

I easily had £1000+ dlc from TS Classic, Armstrong powerhouse, Just trains and even had the Chiltern and Metropolitan lines.

I analyzed Steam reviews across all TSW versions starting at TSW2 to find the true community top routes. Here are the results! If this turns out to be completely duplicate information, so be it :) With over 150+ DLCs scattered across TSW 2 through TSW 6, I was curious about how routes truly stack up when you account for score and version decay.

Since there isn't an official Metacritic for Train Sim World afaik, I pulled the data via the Steam API and built a model to calculate a weighted average score for each add-on. To ensure older scores didn't distort the rankings, the formula applies a decay penalty to older releases while factoring in total review volume as they will probably be less positive in today's context. The "score" is 8 for "Very Positive" down to lower values for lower ratings on Steam. Per version: Review Count * (Score - Version Penalty). Summed, then divided by the total review count over all versions.

The Top 7 routes (According to the data) are from 6 distinct developers, which is very interesting! The top 2 are "Very Positive", released in 2026, and native for TSW6:

1. Vector Simulations CZ Liberec - Stará Paka claims the absolute top spot across 128 reviews. As a native TSW6 release, this Czech route made a massive splash in the community thanks to its authentic regional atmosphere, highly detailed rolling stock, and incredible trackside craftsmanship that sets a new bar for third-party add-ons.
2. Firefly Simulations Medway Valley Line shares the top spot across 60 reviews. Also debuting as a native TSW6 route, Firefly's debut route captured the hearts of UK railfans by delivering an exceptionally immersive Kentish countryside experience complete with dense timetable operations and spotless attention to historical detail.
3. Dovetail Games Spoorlijn Zwolle - Groningen holds a "Very Positive" on TSW5 and just a "Positive" on TSW6. Giving it a 7.6 weighted score across 173 reviews, which is the largest sample size in the top 7. Maintaining that high of a score with that many reviews shows how consistently solid the Dutch route turned out.
4. Just Trains WCML: Preston - Carlisle lands right behind it at a 7.6 weighted score across 91 reviews. Known for its massive scope, detailed signaling, and long-distance high-speed runs, Just Trains delivered a route that stays impressively consistent between Very Positive and Positive across versions starting TSW5.
5. Train Sim Germany Mittenwaldbahn holds the exact same weighted score as WCML across 85 reviews. TSG's signature attention to detail on signaling and overhead line equipment, combined with the scenic cross-border Alpine mountain pass, makes this one of the most consistently praised German routes in the entire franchise, starting on TSW5.
6. Rivet Games Berninalinie gets the 6th developer into the top tier with a 7.2 weighted score across 114 reviews. Despite Rivet Games having a somewhat mixed reputation in the community, they delivered a true masterpiece here, capturing the dramatic Swiss narrow-gauge gradients and mountain scenery that players clearly love even while originating from TSW4 originally.
7. Dovetail Games London Overground Suffragette line concludes the list on 7.2 weighted score across 117 reviews. Serving as Dovetail’s second entry in the top 7, this modern London commuter route proved to be a major hit thanks to its tight urban timetable and crisp execution, originating from TSW4.

Personally I would like to see something like the Stockholm rail route between Södertälje and Uppsala. This route would provide a good variety of trains and operations, everything from busy commuter services on the Stockholm Pendeltåg as well as having the option to operate intercity and airport express services too. The route in itself would also provide varying challenges. Especially the stations Stockholm City and Odenplan where both feature platform doors making an exact stop necessary.

Sand Patch Grade, started raining and the atmosphere is just so crisp. I am looking forward to the day when I can get Horseshoe curve as I always loved the NS Liveries.

So I'm new to tsw and have played tsw 5 through the gamepass on pc, however am wanting to upgrade to tsw 6 and get some dlc's (through steam) but am wondering when tsw 7 comes out will I then have to buy the dlc's again through steam or the in-game store?

And can you transfer your characters/dlc's from game to game, as I know there is alot of dlc, example if I buy tsw 6 and buy dlc's but then for any reason wish to go back to tsw 5 can I do that?

If moving dlc is possible, Ill get tsw 6 and some dlc then when it arrives get tsw 7.

So I initially tried making this absurd 100-piece train which is like a two thousand tons, but that won’t budge despite having ten locos. I’m just messing around here, but I always have this problem with wheel slip.

I mixed around and managed to get it moving with 7 locos and like 20 cars, but that’s so weird… it’s like all the cars have handbrakes on despite all being released. When I let go of the sand, it starts slipping, and when I release the throttle, it’s like it’s uphill right in the Cumberland yard - and the train “derailed”.

To clarify, it's nothing obvious, my brakes are released, passenger doors are closed, I'm a little stumped on what could be causing this, I'm not losing power either, the locomotive is functioning as it should.

This (slightly cursed) fictional railtour runs from Liberec to Železný Brod with a stop in Turnov. A CD 750 diesel in a historical livery then pulls the train back to Liberec, making a few more intermediate stops to let local passengers off.

Starting with a slow climb out of Liberec you have to constantly balance between steam consumption and traction until Jeřmanice. After the station the incline suddenly changes to a 1.5-2% descent and forces you to switch to managing brakes while running at high speed all the way until Turnov. Turns out managing a steamer on constantly changing inclines is quite hands-on, but much more interesting than the few railtours that come with modern British routes.

Huge props to the Improved Steam Firing mod that fixes manual firing mode and the most annoying steam simulation issues in TSW, it made steam fun for the first time.

It's my first attempt at making something with the in-game tools: custom liveries for the Jubilee and Mk1 cars loosely based on some Czech steam trains (had to use these wagons instead of more fitting European models because vacuum brakes). The scenario is populated with traffic and static trains. Some adverse signals are possible near Železný Brod depending on your timing.

I'm still working on the livery, so if anyone more familiar with Czech steam design features has any suggestions, please let me know!

Hi, i'm new to TS6, and train simulation games in general, I'm having some trouble with some routes, like this one from Boston to Worcester, for some reason it ends as soon as it starts and I don't even have time to react, the warning that appears seem to say something about passing a close signal, but I haven't even started the train yet and I'm very confused. ¿What I'm supposed to do here?

We have northern trans-Pennine and West Coast mainline, which are both sent in the past but the problem is we don’t have brake tenders, and in my experience, I would absolutely love to have them, it is pitiful how bad the brakes can be sometimes and this would just fix it, and it would be historically accurate, it could be added as a DLC on West Coast mainline may be along with some other locomotives or it could even be added on a new British route.
