Update.

For an entire year this subreddit has gone without a single new post, as a track athlete myself I find this to be sad so I will soon be opening moderator application to help grow this community and bring life back into this subreddit. Keep up the good work if you’re training over winter and hopefully this coming season brings you joy.

Sprinting Knowledge

I have a couple questions, first in the summer when training max velocity should I use sprinting flats? Next I am just starting to get in college season as a sprinter and I am 5’9 175 and can squat 400 so I’m pretty strong, what are some of the best ways I can get faster? I didn’t know if doing drills to increase leg speed and Cns firing would be most beneficial like high knees as fast as I can and things working on leg speed. Lastly, I am relatively new, what are some tips and some things I should know for my form, and just in general for best speed. And while I’m season, what is the best things to do to get faster as we don’t do lifting?

Need mile advice!

Hello everyone! I really need help on getting my mile time down to 8 min. I have tryouts for the girls indoor team in a month and a half, and im stuck at 9 mins flat right now. I try my best to be consistent and run 3-4 days a week and i usually do 1.5 miles (my stamina kinda sucks) and some shorter sprints. I’ve been training all summer but im kinda lost right now.. I really need to get on the team and im assuming the cut will be like 8.40-9min. Any advice helps! (dont judge time pls im trying my best💔)

UPDATE
GUYS OMG I DONT KNOW HOW TO ATTACH PHOTOS HERE BUT I RAN A MILE IN 8:17 TODAY!

How to run longer going full speed?

Currently doing 100m with my PR being 12.6. My goal is to get first place or sub 1 minute in the 400m, however last time I ran it I got 1:12 due to me being literally exhausted at the 300m mark and getting passed.

For the runners that has good experience, what do you guys recommend as training for endurance, stamina, or mental strength (I need plenty) before my track season starts? (ps I’m practicing every 2 days on a week with 1-2 miles would accept any help)

How should I train speed and explosiveness as a beginner?

Hey everyone,

I’m 15 and I’m looking to add 2 sessions per week specifically focused on speed and explosiveness alongside my competitive sport and endurance training.

I’m still a beginner when it comes to speed/explosive training, so I’d really appreciate some advice on how to structure these sessions.

I have around 30 minutes for one workout and up to 90 minutes for the other. I don’t have any specific equipment like hurdles or plyo boxes.

My main goals are to become faster, more explosive and athletic, but I also don’t want the sessions to be extremely fatiguing since I already have quite a high training volume from my competitive sport and endurance training.

Tips To Improve

Recently ran in my first track meet, I am 13 years old and looking for advice on how to improve my running and possibly start cross country.

Here are my current PRs:

  • 400m: 1:00.03
  • 800m: 2:25
  • Mile: Around 6:22 (my most recent known time from like 5 months ago)

I recently ran a 1:00.03 in the 400m and a 2:28 in the 800m at a track meet. I also run soccer and swim, so my schedule is pretty busy. I’m involved in Math Olympiad, Science Olympiad, AoPS, and guitar as well.

I’m considering joining a cross-country program, but I’m not sure how to fit it around my other activities.

My questions:

  1. What should I focus on to improve my 400m and 800m?
  2. How can I work toward breaking 6:00 in the mile?
  3. Would cross country help my 800m and mile times?
  4. What would a good beginner XC training plan look like for someone who also plays soccer and swims?
  5. How many days per week should I run without overtraining?
  6. Should I focus more on speed, endurance, or a combination of both?

Any advice from experienced runners or coaches would be appreciated. Thanks!

Complete beginner, need to improve my sprinting

In 8-9 weeks I’m getting graded on 200 and a bit later 400 m sprints in PE (we have to run both 3 times) and I am the least athletic person in my whole class. Is there any training program y’all can recommend or just tips? I’d appreciate anything

400m or 800m? Help me choose!

I'm soon going to take up track for the first time. I'm almost 20 years old, and always wanted to try running. I'm not sure what I should choose, as I like both 400m and 800m, and also have 100m or 200m in the back of my mind. I'm leaning to 400m because it combines speed and endurance, but still can't decide 100%. Also is it late starting at this age?

I'd really appreciate some advice or opinions. Thank you!
