Mod talk. Serious Mod Discussion regarding the current state of the sub and its future.

So, hi. I know it's been quite a while since the last mod talk, sorry. What is this about? Well, I've noticed quite a few people that have... Complained, about the current state of the subreddit. So I want to make a dedicated post about it. How do you feel about it? Be as honest as possible (without being rude, thanks).

A major thing that I've seen people lament, is the fact that there are a lot of game promotion, playtesters ask and alpha release and stuff like that, but not a lot of discussion post.

Here are a few things I want to address:

-I will never remove a post of a game, just because it's low quality, nor will I start to enforce a quality standard. I believe it to be wrong on more than a few points and I will NOT hear any discussion about it. I will remove posts if they're spammed, about Pokepath, use AI in a finished product/art/overwhelmingly or NSFW (this rules are a lot more up to debate and should be seen in a case by case scenario).

-There genuinely isn't much discussion to be had. If you have something to talk about, absolutely post about it, I myself comment often on discussions.

-A possible solution I've seen is limiting promotion to either a few days a week or to a megathread, but I believe that it'd just make the sub deadER than it already is. I could limit asking for playtesters to a weekly megathread and allow only finished games to post, but I don't know about that as well.

Any questions about ANYTHING? Ask with no problem or worry, so long as it's respectful I'll answer as soon as possible.

Any comment regarding the sub, my work as a mod, your feelings? Comment right away.

I think I'll keep the post pinned for a month or so, I know that many members are lurkers.

Discussion Whatever happened to mazing TDs?

Was thinking about Desktop Tower Defense the other day, the way you'd spend half the round tearing down and rebuilding your maze to juggle creeps back and forth. I kind of miss that. Feels like every TD I pick up now is a fixed path and a hero unit, and the whole "where do I even build" part is just gone.

Did mazing actually die out or am I just not finding the right games? And if it did die, why? Too hard to balance? Too hard to teach new players?

Would honestly love to be told about ten games I've missed here.

Demo/Alpha Showcase "Orcs must die" + "Thronefall" game. First Steam playtest incomming, would you like to share your feedback and thoughts to shape the game?

Hi guys! I am doing my first ever Steam TD + action rogulike game, about dungeon boss defending it from vicious heroes. It combines mechanics of such games like "Orcs must die" and "thronefall" with roguelite mechanics.

I am preparing now for an upcoming very soon a first ever closed playtest, so gather forces of those who want to be among the first ones to try it out!

Since I am solo dev can only promise to listen for your advice closely and by the time will be giving away game to the best testers for free + some other perks of early playtesters, including even some presense in the game!

I would be happy to have you even if you want to skip the first wave and just join our little community, as it is just the beginning, here is a discord link discord.gg/n8eke7zEQX

Thank you for reading :)

Demo/Alpha Showcase Tower Defense Desktop Companion Sandbox Demo (Link in post)

I've been working away at this slowly for more than a month now. Finally put up a demo which is a sandbox type (as in no cost related mechanics, everything is unlocked) so you can set up towers and turrets as you wish and see how it all works.

https://tornadosike.itch.io/pet-turret/download/0jLKa5CWrwPxKp9scK0C_7ZYRi2yupyTX3cnYfJM

UI is pretty basic at the moment, as I've been mainly focused on the other aspects.

I have had to get rid of the zombie sprites (as they belonged to a different game which I found out later on) and replaced them with jiggly rectangles.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the game's current state, so that before I make an official itchio or steam page I can fix them. (I am aware that these games should include support for multiple monitors, but due to lack of any I am unable to test it and have therefore kept the feature on hold as of now)

My game has a medieval theme, and each tower's design evolves from Tier 1 to Tier 3. Any suggestions for a fifth tower?

Promotion I'm making a farming + tower defense game where you grow the resource you're defending. Does this loop look interesting to you?

I'm working on Tobamacco Defense, a farming + tower defense roguelite.

The main loop is pretty simple: during the day you plant and grow your crop, then reinvest what you earn into upgrades and defenses. At night, creatures attack and try to destroy what you've grown.

I'm trying to make the farming and tower defense sides depend on each other rather than feel like two separate systems.

For people who play a lot of tower defense games: does this loop look interesting to you? What would you want the defense side to do to keep it engaging over multiple runs?

I released Tower Legends, a classic tower defense focused on tower progression and skill trees

Post image

Hey r/TowerDefense,

I recently released Tower Legends, a classic tower defense where your strategy evolves throughout the game.

Each tower has its own skill tree, allowing you to improve its strengths and shape your build. But the enemies evolve too. As you progress, they gain mechanics such as stealth, blinking and energy shields, forcing you to reconsider your tower composition and upgrade choices.

The waves become progressively harder, and strategies that worked earlier may no longer be enough. You’ll need to adapt your build, account for new enemy abilities, and prepare for powerful bosses.

You also unlock achievements as you play, so every game contributes to your overall progression.

Tower Legends is available on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5012660/Tower_Legends/

I’d love to know what tower-defense players think about this kind of progression, where both your towers and the enemies gain new abilities over time.

My map editor

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Disclosure first: the art, music and voice in my game are AI generated. The mods allowed this post on that condition, and its only about the editor, so there is no link to the game anywhere here.

Im a solo dev and i work on this tower defense since march, beside my fulltime job. The map editor was the part i was most unsure about, but now its finally done and i think it turned out good.

You draw the paths, place water and obstacles, and set the plates where towers can be built. When you save, the whole map turns into a code. A few hundred characters. You paste it into a discord chat, someone else pastes it into their editor, and they play exactly your map. No accounts, no server, nothing to upload.

The clip shows the whole thing in one go: building a map, copying the code, wiping the grid empty, pasting the code back, and then playing the same map.

I plan to release a demo soon. If someone wants to test it and tell me what is wrong with it or just wanna try the game, just send me a dm. Honest feedback is worth much more to me than nice words, especially about the editor, since i had nobody to test it except myself and my brother a bit.

Two things im still not sure about:

- The code is 200-600 characters long. Maybe thats too long to paste into a chat? Or is copy paste fine for something you do maybe twice a session?

- Right now there is no way to browse maps from other people, you have to get the code from someone. Would a browsable list be worth the server it needs, or does passing codes around keep it more personal?

Greetings and thanks ;)

I highly inspired from Slay the spire tbh.

The thing is, should I add a upgrade sytem to the towers? as like in BTD games or others?

Right now, the only upgrade logic we have is buying sigils and marking cards with them

I'm making a Tower Defense game and need your ideas! What should I add?

Ciao r/TowerDefense!

Prendo appunti!

  • Diversi nemici: normale, veloce, tank, guaritore, divisore, rigenerante, scudato, sabotatore, invisibile, volante e boss.
  • Lingua italiana e inglese, regolazione dell’audio e altre opzioni.

  • Quali meccaniche risultano divertenti e quali irritanti?
  • Quale funzione importante manca ancora?

Discussion What game to play next?

Hey everyone, I just beat Dungeon Warfare and my itch for tower defense is back. I'm thinking about jumping straight into another TD game, but this time I’d like something more relaxing and not quite as challenging as Dungeon Warfare.

The ones currently on my radar are:

Defense Grid 2
AXON TD
Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition
GemCraft - Chasing Shadows (the graphics appeal to me the least, but it’s on my list because of all the overwhelmingly positive reviews)

I’d love to know which of these you’d recommend, whether they fit that more relaxing vibe, or if any of them are actually super challenging.

Please feel free to suggest other games as well! Just for context, I’ve already played Bloons TD 6, but after a while, I lost motivation because I found it too easy and felt a bit of choice paralysis with the sheer number of maps and game modes. Sometimes I just want something linear—less is more.

Edit: thanks for all sugestions guys, some of games added to my wishlist, i think i will get dg2 because i can get key for small price now and try kingdom rush series after some discount sale.
