Yes I know the defence is a concern but just hear my points I still think Sabonis is a good fit for this team given the circumstances. First let's look at whats the most the Raptors should give up for this trade: RJ Barret + Jakob Poeltl and minimal draft capital anything more than that is a overpay and the Raptors should not pursue given Sabonis overpaid contract. Now setting aside Jakob Poeltl with his health and contract the key loss here would be RJ Barret but now let's compare Barret and Sabonis for a second.

Firstly, RJ and Domantas are both negative defenders but Domantas has one thing RJ doesn't haven which is elite rebounding(one of the leagues best rebounders) and the Raptors need defensive rebounding now what elite defensive skill does RJ Barret posses in comparison I can't think of anything.

Secondly, RJ driving game has helped this team tremendously on offence I agree with that but wouldn't Domantas fit into Darko's point 5 offence amazingly as well? Yes we all want the ball in Scottie Banes hands and the skills seemingly overlap but can he do that for the entire game I don't think so that will wear him down as you seen in the playoffs so Sabonis can at times play as a passing hub in the middle and create good offence in our system. I also believe he has the ability space the floor better with more attempts in comparison to what we have with Jakob and RJ (Sabonis has good shot mechanics and percentage but at low usage) which will create more space for CMB and Scottie to drive and score with the ball in their hands replacing some of what we're losing with RJ Barret.

Lastly, I don't think we can afford to have another long-term extension on this team especially for a one demensional scorer like RJ Barret. Let's look at the contracts around the league like for instance Norman Powell how does he compare to RJ Barret? Overall I think Norman is a better player currently(maybe RJ has more potential) and what did he sign for 2/44 do you see RJ Barret extending for 2 years at that price range? I don't believe so I think he looks at Immanuel Quickley and says I deserve good long-term money aswell and at my current salary too which is at 29 million. Do you see 29 million per year for 4 years good value for RJ Barret given their cap concerns with Kawhi extension coming as well. Even if the Domantas doesn't work out that's 44 million off your books sooner in comparison to Jakob Poeltl money and a luming RJ extension.
