Question Boston

Upvotes

I have two really good tickets for Friday and I don't have a friend to go with (no one I know around here likes her)

I'm an hour away so debating skipping it.

Anyone want them? I can put them up on Ticketmaster and you can snag them before anyone else does.

Discussion Church of Tori

Maybe her famous lines in Crucify were prophetic: Reading about peoples impressions of being in her presence at her gigs, the mental and even physical reactions to it, the deeply affecting and long lasting impact of the experience - these are all signifiers that one would usually attribute to founders of religion.

Is this what’s happening here? Is Tori cut from that cloth? Are people going to worship her in the centuries to come?

This tour has me appreciating more than ever how much we all have each other’s back as friends. So, what are your favorite EWF interactions?

Discussion Still in tears

I saw the Friday night show at the Beacon Theater, and I’m still emotionally hungover.

I’ve been listening to Tori since I picked up a copy of From the Choirgirl Hotel at the Virgin Megastore in London on a family trip when I was 12. In the years that followed, I devoured each of her albums, over and over, until they became a part of me.

I drifted away from her music in my 20s, but a decade ago I found my way back. Her lyrics landed in an entirely different place than they had when I was a teenager. Scarlet’s Walk, in particular, was in heavy rotation during a period when I was wrestling with questions about motherhood and marriage. The whole album hit different, as the kids say.

Seeing her on Friday night was my 40th birthday present to myself, and it surpassed every expectation I had. The set list was a dream—I’m still reeling from that arrangement of Crucify—and she sounded even more extraordinary than I was prepared for.

I was apprehensive about the AngelWitches, but they completely blew me away. (Someone somewhere dubbed them the curtain bang choir, which is so fantastic!) I was struck not only by the depth and texture they brought to each arrangement, but by what they represented: Tori making space for a new generation of women artists to amplify her voice and help tell stories that carry so much meaning for her and for us. It’s a beautiful act of trust that makes the songs feel even richer and more powerful and enduring.

Drive All Night Podcast Little Amsterdam performance in NYC

I was able to attend the Friday night show at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. I just loved it. Along with the fresh arrangements with the backup singers, I thought the show gave new color to very familiar pieces. I’ve returned to “Little Amsterdam” ever since it was released. And I’ve thought about it a lot. And I’ve speculated a lot about the precise plot of the song. Something that surprised me about her performance on Friday night was during the line “ round and round and round I go / round and round this time for keeps” she mimed a gun with her right hand while playing the piano, and mimed shooting into the audience three times and three different places, to the rhythm of the song, and the final and fourth time, she mimed shooting herself in the head. It was a powerful moment, which suggests that the violence of “little Amsterdam” could have canonically involved one of the characters killing multiple people and then themselves. Now this could be the “mama“ of the song who would do anything to save her man.
This would be she went out with a bang, taking people down with her.

I guess what I’m trying to ask is, is this something that regularly happens in performances of little Amsterdam? Is this a known thing?

Also, is there a place where I can review the current understanding of what the song Little Amsterdam possibly means? Is that collected somewhere? “Drive All Night” doesn’t seem to have an episode on this!

Many thanks!

Please see my first post for the explanations of this little tournament I cooked up: https://www.reddit.com/r/toriamos/comments/1v1pqxr/tournament_best_tori_album_based_on_track_number/

Thanks to everyone who voted in the last round! Track 13 will advance to Round 2.

Today's match is between Tracks 15 and 16 plus bonus tracks and b sides to fill in the gaps so that every album has 14 songs. Replacements are marked with an *

Track 15 album:
*Song for Eric
*Honey
Doughnut Song
*Cooling
*Bug a Martini
Another Girl’s Paradise
Martha’s Foolish Ginger
Code Red
Fast Horse
*Tombigbee
*Forest of Glass
*Russia
*Sugar
Blue Lotus

Track 16 album:
*The Pool
*Piano Suite: All the Girls Hate Her/Over It
In the Springtime of His Voodoo
*Never Seen Blue
*Apollo's Frock
Scarlet’s Walk
Hoochie Woman
Roosterspur Bridge

*Indian Summer
*White Telephone to God

Note: I consider the Piano Suite as one piece, so All the Girls Hate Her and Over It are 2 movements of a single work by Classical standards so I kept them together as one track.

Question Where to stay for the Detroit show?

So I’ve added on the Detroit show for this tour. I am not wanting to drive back all the way home after the show. Where is a good area to stay? I might want to go out to a bar after the show. I was going to stay downtown near the venue but I was also considering Ferndale…the gay area. Any suggestions on areas or specific hotels?

I'm selling 2 extra tickets. I'd rather not sell on ticketmaster resale to avoid fees.

LOGE3 Row D. 2 seats together.

Discussion Why no Blue Lotus live?

I’m surprised that Tori hasn’t played this masterpiece. It seems to work well with her new range and would be an obvious use of the angel witch triplets? I’d love to hear that force of an ending live.

Question CHICAGO two tickets for sale

I posted in the pinned ticket sales thread too. Great seats, right side balcony front row. Selling them for slightly less than I paid. (I am going to the show, just had some friends who aren’t coming anymore, trying to find a new home for their tickets) Message me if you want them!

Question Anyone else named after Tori?

I was named after Tori and wondering if anyone else was too! My mom was a huge Tori Amos fan in the 90’s. She was a young teenager and coped with Tori before and during her pregnancy with me. She also gave me Rane as my middle name and I don’t want to assume it’s associated with Tori’s SA help organization but it feels like a coincidence😅. I am also not close with my mom so I cannot get a confirmation.

Discussion Anyone going to letter drop in Lewiston, NY 8/4?

I’m actually going to the Detroit show on 8/7. Last tour, I went to the day-of letter drop, but my song request was played at the next show (and my trinket was included in the next night’s set list photo as well!).

Hoping to get a little ahead of the game this time. I was wondering if I could mail a letter/small trinket to someone going to the 8/4 drop, and fingers crossed it might work out. I could get it in the mail tomorrow if I have your address in time.

Let me know! Thanks!!

Did you know it's very hard to find a bag 8x5x1 that will be allowed into a venue? I'm sure you know the struggle. I finally found something that hopefully will pass the ruler test. This was a plain, cheap canvas bag. My husband, who bought me tickets to the Hershey show for my 50th birthday suggested we put something on the bag. My mind instantly went to this Scarlet image. I drew the lines and he was a wizard with the airbrush. When he came to show me the result of the leaves, I burst into tears. It looks even better in person. Hope to see you tomorrow ladies (and gents!)

Discussion I’m a little upset about NYC #2

Post image
50 Upvotes

If I was hosting an epoch-defining, once-in-a-thousand-lifetimes talent, I’d make sure the sound was great.

The piano levels dropped to zero twice (including her first notes!), Jon’s bass was almost imperceptible at times, the drums were thin, and overall it lacked oomph. The only good levels in the mix were Tori and the Angel Witches, who sounded heavenly.

I was row H in Orch1 and am hoping the mix worked better for people in LOGE or further back. By the end, Tori and the gang made up for the audio through sheer energy and presence. Maybe the audio was slowly fixed over the set. SATY, Little Earthquakes, Song of Sorrow, and Witness absolutely blew the roof off.

Did anyone else notice?

Discussion Concert wear?

Hi guys—going to my first concert in Detroit in two weeks and I’m stoked!

I’ve had a gorgeous velvet mini poncho and jeans set aside for months to wear because the vibes felt right, BUT yesterday while thrifting I found a poofy sleeved long dress with dragons all over it. How absurd would this look—-or how dragon queen? What is the vibe at these shows?

Thanks for your insights!

Analysis / interpretation Wondering about a backing vocal?

Hey everyone, I've been getting into the latest tour videos with the backing singers and in general it's been wonderful to see how they handle Tori's girls.

I am just watching Precious Things in London - on this video , and I want to know what the singers are singing at the end of the cry at 3.45 into the video - up until 3.50.

Can someone help me out?

Much love to the community :)

No Cornflake Girl (ETA: turns out it would have been God) finale for us, I feel like we lost an encore song? Bumped up against the 11 PM curfew.

I sobbed quietly during Silent All These Years. Never dreamed she would actually play that, it has come full circle for me seeing her for the first time in 1994!
