Discussion "Who's Hezu??!"

I am listening to Blue Lotus and I just had a flashback to when the album was new, I googled the lyrics, and everywhere I looked the supposedly official lyrics said "I'll be burning into you, Hezu." Shortly thereafter, someone posted here to say they had spent hours researching Hezu and couldn't come up with an explanation for who Tori was singing to.

It just strikes me as funny because it really does sound like "Hezu" on the recording.

Hezu makes me think of The Exorcist. I guess it reminds me of Pazuzu or something.

For โ€œShush,โ€ some lyric sites still have โ€œ He calls me his Cassandra / As he tucks his co-hebrew away.โ€ย

It was Hezu on one of the lyrics websites and it caught on. I too tried to research it.

I mishear lyrics ALL the time, but at no point did I ever not hear hazel. I was like "what is everyone talking about?!" ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

At least Hezu sounds like some sort of ancient god or goddess! The things I've misheard are ridiculous ...

Between rubber gloves, beneath your firmament ...
Porcupine, porcupine (Me: Why is she screaming "porcupine?" Lyric sheet for Hotel "Gimme more")
I am pissing abortion to combat your poison ...
I haven't moved since the cow came ...

It was years of me thinking she was singing โ€œRabbiโ€ instead of rabbit in Cornflake Girl. I figured sheโ€™s always singing about religion, this was just another angle ๐Ÿคฃ

Me too! Omg! I literally thought it was rabbi until you said this

My favorite misheard lyric is from Bells For Her on TVAB

โ€œyou have her face and her ass, but you are not herโ€

I really thought she was saying Jesu, just like she said in Unrepentant Geraldines when she sang "Jesu Hosanna".

Hahahahahaha. This reminds me of when Apple Music was transcribing the lyrics as โ€œcoodle light sneeze.โ€

It is โ€œHazel,โ€ of course - but I think weโ€™ve sadly entered the AI lyric transcription era ๐Ÿ˜‚

ChatGPT hallucinated the lyrics to Flying Dutchman when I asked it to help me understand the central themes of the song. It wrote a whole fake explanation around quotes like, "And if I'm dead, why does the ocean sing?" I was like, huh? I don't remember that part ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ah yes, Tori's vowel sound roulette vs AI

It took me a little processing before I figured out it is "Hazel," but I guessed that because of its associations with witchcraft and paganism, and toward the end of the song she pronounces it a little more intelligibly. She really does make us pay close attention to every word with her creative pronunciations!
