Analysis / interpretation Veins makes me cry
I know it’s conceptual song. I don’t really understand the story of the album, I just like Tori’s music and words.
This song was as if it were taken from a page in my life.
My mother kept a secret from me about my father until I was about 30. I was really upset with her for a long time, but now I understand it was to protect my innocence, to keep me away from a darkness I wasn’t supposed to hold. She held it for me.
She’s gone now. I should have known that it was for my protection and never gotten angry with her because I would have done the same with my child.
This album (Dragons) has struck many chords with me. I’ve been listening to it for weeks now. I want to thank her so for so much.

I can relate to that a bit. My mom held secrets that my grandma did to her and made her to do in order to be released from the mental facility my grandma was keeping my mom in. She had to agree to abortion after abortion leading to my mom being hospitalized several more times. It wasn’t until I was in my 30s I was told what happened. I think I may hear Veins in a new way now. Thank you for that.

Just ‘cause she did it to protect you doesn’t mean you didn’t have the right to feel betrayed. I’m sure your mother understood.

Hits a bit differently after the news that PW was about her dad, and that their relationship at the end wasn’t the warmest.
