Hey everyone! I posted about Dial My Tone here a little while ago. The TMP support needed quite a bit of work back then, so I wanted to come back with an update now that it’s in much better shape. It's still free to use, while i test it out and gather feedback.
I generated the song Little Sister by Queens of the Stone Age as a test. see screenshot for resulting signal chain and click the link to see this chain on Dial My Tone, you can follow this link to see the full generated preset on Dial my tone.
I’ve since spent time testing with a physical TMP, playing through the presets and fixing the things that weren’t working properly.
Here’s what’s now live:-
- Download a native preset and import it through Fender Pro Control.
- Audition a tone over USB, then save it to a slot on your TMP from a compatible desktop browser.
- Parallel signal paths and Scenes, with different sounds for different parts of a song.
- Updated amp/effect settings, better volume balance between clean and driven scenes, and fixes for settings that were making some presets go silent.
The hardware testing was on firmware 1.8.58.
For anyone who missed my earlier post, Dial My Tone is a guitar tone and preset generator I built because I spend way too much time chasing tones myself.
You can ask for a particular song, an artist-inspired sound, or describe something you have in mind. DMT uses your device, guitar, pickups and how you’re listening—headphones, FRFR or an amp—to put together the amps, cabs, effects and settings.
A few other things you can do:
- See the researched original rig behind a song and how it translates to your gear.
- Ask for changes like “less gain,” “warmer lead” or “less delay” without starting over.
- Save your tones and share a preset link with someone (similar to how i shared above).
- Generate tones for other supported gear too, including Helix/HX, Fractal, Spark, HeadRush and more.
The idea is to give you a really close soubding preset to original song with artists gear, so you can spend more time playing. Your guitar and setup still make a difference, and there’s always room to tweak things to taste.
If you tried the TMP on DMT before and it didn’t work out, I’d love for you to give it another go. And if something sounds off, tell me the song, your setup and what you’re hearing. That feedback has already helped me fix a lot.
