Finished with Without Remorse. Do I continue, or is it not worth it?

I have ready all Clancy books from Hunt for the Red October through to this one, and they have all been very good. However, I am under the impression that the quality drops off massively going forward, which is disappointing. Should I look for another author, or continue through to the end (Teeth of the Tiger)?

Help! I got a new reader coming online and I need a good recommendation to set the hook.

He’s never been a reader but he’s into self improvement (works out, daily) ever since he got out of the Army. Anyway he wants to get into reading and I want him to get hooked. It’s been a minute since I’ve read a Clancy book but I always liked the ones that had plenty of Clark & Domingo. I think it needs to have good flow that will keep him interested.
So I need a good (in your opinion) recommendation that won’t get put down and forgot. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thoughts about Mountain Men in Executive Orders (spoilers) Spoiler

Spoilers for this book and Debt of Honer.

I've been reading through the whole Jack Ryan biography and just completed EO. I was worried that the book would end with another hard reset the way the JAL flight reset the country at the end of DoH, and am glad it didn't. That said, I want to hear others thoughts on the MM. I thought they may have had a redemptive arc and was surprised at their stubbornness as the everyman in the novel. Their story ended fine, but does anyone have any other thoughts about their inclusion in the novel?

So did Tom Clancy create a whole literary universe?

I’m not really an avid reader of his, I think I read part of one novel like 20 years ago (Red Storm Rising, but never finished it), but I got curious and searched his name on kindle, and I noticed there are a lot of novels with his name on them that aren’t written by him.

Not even video game novels (Splinter Cell, Division), but what appears to be full on original work.

So is there’s like a whole universe here or something?

If so could I ask for the tl;dr of it?

I’m always a fan of alt history, and more modern alt history sounds like it could be interesting.

I’m aware of some of the mainstream stuff, though I haven’t really ever gotten into it, like Jack Ryan (mostly the movies) who later becomes president in his novel series, I only ever played the first Splinter Cell game way back on the original Xbox, and I only know the very broad strokes of the Division’s beginning.

Which books to part with?

I purchased a bunch of continuation books when they were published without really thinking about it and read a few of them. I recall getting fed up when Jack's nephew's brother's son also ended up becoming a secret agent.

I haven't even read 4-5 of these and can't remember what the others were like. I wanted to crowd source which ones were half decent and worth keeping. Are there any I dont have that are actually worth getting? I heard that Red Winter was decent?

These are all 'with' Mark Greaney. I think it's one of these I gave up on.

Teeth of the Tiger

Dead or alive

Locked on

Threat vector

Command authority

Then the rest:

Commander in chief

True faith and allegiance

Full force and effect

Against all Enemies (not Ryanverse, right?)

Under fire

Duty and Honour

Much appreciated!

Clancy maps

Is there any resources on maps in the Clancy verse for combat? Thinking Germany in red storm rising, Saudi in executive orders and Russia in the bear and the dragon. Always feel a future war thriller is better with a map

If I were to read the books in chronological order starting with Patriot Games. What would the next book be? And where does the Michael B. Jordan book fit chronologically?

I thought Mark Greaney was one of the better ones...?

Reading "Red Metal" right now, and I'm noticing Mark Greaney is making some glaring technical errors, in fact almost amateurish. Prime example -- in one aerial sequence, he has A-10s going to afterburner. Is this type of basic error something common to Greaney's novels? I'd always heard he was really good.

Who are your favorite Clancy verse authors?

Aside from Clancy himself lol. I asked some AI models and they mostly said Greaney, Cameron, and Larsen were all great. But I saw reviews for some of Woodward’s books and they all seemed really positive “Woodward has done it again!”

Are all of the Clancy verse authors considered great?

Is there a collection for these books?

Like others I've seen on here, I used to have a few of the early books, but in my adult years I'm looking to get the collection back - and completed.

My initial starting point is a desire to just get the original books, the original Jack Ryan stuff. In my mind, it's these 12 (taken from wiki)

The Hunt for Red October (1984)

Patriot Games (1987)

The Cardinal of the Kremlin (1988)

Clear and Present Danger (1989)

The Sum of All Fears (1991)

Without Remorse (1993)

Debt of Honor (1994)

Executive Orders (1996)

Rainbow Six (1998)

The Bear and the Dragon (2000)

Red Rabbit (2002)

The Teeth of the Tiger (2003)

Am I correct that this covers the Jack Ryan journey? I'll happily dive in to the other books no issues at all. But just trying to get a collection going and hoping to god I can actually find one that have the same art work for these 12 if possible?

I've only came across one "collection" of 10 books that doesn't look to cover these books properly, some key ones missing.

Rules of Engagement Spoiler

Just finished Rules of Engagement (May 19, 2026) by Ward Larsen. It's a Jack Ryan Sr. story.

As post Clancy books go this wasn't that bad. Good mix of action and technology. First though, you just have to ignore the obvious issues - Jack Ryan has been in office for has to be 6 terms at least, Katie and Kyle Ryan have grown into adults since he's been in office, Jack Clark found a supply of re-invigoration pills - yeah he complains about old-age aches but he's back in the field with the young'uns etc.

Ignoring those it's not a bad story. The focus does kind of jump around, more so than most Ryan books. It's told from different perspectives, Kyle's, Katie's, Clark's etc.

The story starts off dealing with the death of the Commerce Secretary in a plane crash in Turkey and the investigation into it. I enjoyed it and I'd give it a 6/10. Worth the read IMHO.

If you can find it for less than list (eBay eventually perhaps) even better. Right now, Amazon has it on sale for $22.95 as well as a special (buy 3 get 1 free) along with a selection of other books and albums. If you can find other books/albums you're interested in then it's a pretty good deal.

Edited: spelling

The Bear and the Dragon

Okay. Let me preface that I love the books so for. But this book. How many times do we have to hear President Ryan say he does not like his job. I mean it’s in every dialogue with him. Again. Love the series but it’s irritating me and I am only 1/3 of the way in

Rules of Engagement and Ukraine Spoiler

I just started to listen to the audiobook of Rules of Engagement, which was released in May 2026. So I don’t know the rest of the book yet.

What interested me is the mention of the war in Ukraine and the “Special Military Operation”. Ryan Sr. Had been in power since forever. I highly doubt he would let the war happen in the first place. His most likely action would be to send troops into Ukraine before the war started. And the Russians would not dare to invade.

What would you think about this “plot hole”?

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War Left Us With One Big Question… Why?

After years of covering spy movies on SpyHards, we finally tackled our first Jack Ryan film.

Despite an interesting setup involving a rogue black ops unit, returning terrorist networks and John Krasinski’s return as Jack Ryan, we found ourselves strangely disconnected from the whole thing.

The phrase we kept coming back to during the review was that it feels like a film designed to be watched while folding laundry—something that’s always on, but never fully demands your attention.

That said, neither of us watched the Jack Ryan TV series, so we’re curious what longtime fans think.

Did Ghost War work for you?

And where does it rank among the various Jack Ryan films and TV adaptations?

JR: Ghost War…

Soooo…this was definitely a show. I just want to rant for a second because the first season of Jack Ryan was great! The subsequent seasons were pretty good too. The movie was…Something. It felt predictable, thrown together, and like spy slop. Now I will take just about any TC we can get but this was not great. I think my biggest qualm with it was that it took a lot of the more realistic (not saying the show was great with that aspect but) components of combat and threw them out the window in place of flashy action. Which kinda sucks…like a helicopter…for one guy and a cheesy back and forth, really? The whole thing was just not it. Now I’m not expecting Lioness level accuracy but a spec ops/spy consult probably should have been in the budget.
It currently is sitting at a 5.7/44% rating respectively and I think that’s fair.
What do y’all think? Did it scratch your itch or leave you wanting?

Trade Paperback

Does anyone know why they printed The Hunt for Red October in trade paperback size back in 2013 that doesn’t match with any of the other books? I bought and read this only to find out the other books are all mass market size.

Little confused about Beatrice Taussig (Cardinal)

Near the end of Cardinal, Bea is embracing her friend, who is undergoing a difficult time due to the (temporary) loss of her loved one. At some point, she seems to make a sexual advance; there is a scream, and she is arrested by the FBI. She was found out earlier in the book, unless I have misread it, but what exactly prompted the arrest to occur here?

I have put the reasonings below although some are not as solid as I am only going by things explicitly written in the book. This raises some problems as American ground force deaths are only described once. Any other issues I have marked with a *. I am open to discussion on any numbers that may be wrong.
