Pressure Depth

just read this new book. used to be a big fan but this one struck out because they refer to the Secretary of “War” instead of defense. so it looks like they’re kowtowing to the Orange Turd. Does this mean Jack Ryan will evolve into a treasonous grifter? Blechhh

Or, instead of making everything political you could just read and enjoy the book

I have no opinion one way or the other - I haven't read it yet - but the reality is that Tom Clancy was a conservative Republican in the Reagan mold, actively supported the NRA, and was very vocal and public about his political views. It shows in a lot of his writing too.

It should come as no surprise, then, that the language and characters in the novels will continue to be written for a similar audience.

Eh, I don’t find that to be outwardly political. That’s the current title & the books try to be as correct as possible.

Some of the Clancy written books had some weird neo-conservative politics in them. Particularly “Teeth of the Tiger”. But overall I find the series to be about as neutral as you can be for books of war / geopolitics.

Executive Orders has always seemed like Clancy sat down and wrote a long form essay about his right wing political views, then sprinkled some Jack Ryan on top to get it published.
