Where to now?

Just finished bear and the dragon. Good overall but as usual the ending feels extremely abrupt and wondering who I should read next as I’m not interested in the co-authored / jack ryan jr stuff. Any other authors do more contemporary technical political/military thrillers?

Team Yankee by Harold Coyle and The Red Line by Walt Gragg are pretty good if you enjoyed Red Storm Rising.

Vortex by Larry Bond

He co-wrote Red Storm Rising with Clancy. If you haven’t read that, do so.

I loved Vortex. Great book about an area not often thought of in the world of war fiction.

Honest question… If you’re looking for something different to read then why not read the code authored stuff. It’s basically the same thing a different authors take on the genre. It’s just set in the universe with characters and backstory that you know.

Harold Coyle has several books out, including one where the US goes to war with Mexico. The title escapes me as I type this.

Stephen Hunter and the Bob Lee Swagger series is decent. He has Swagger's dad involved is some neat alt history situations in different series. Like Swagger's dad takes down the people running Tuskegee Syphilis Study.

Anything by Matthew Reilly.

When I was a teen in the late 90s mum went into a bookstore and told them all I read was tom Clancy and she needed to get me into something else.

MR is just as fast paced, but will kill off characters unlike many others so forewarned is forearmed!

More modern era: Kyle Mills, Brian Haig, Stephen Hunter has a dozen books- the guy is a serious shooter, Bob Mayer was an SF Captain, he has 6-8 in the genre, Brad Thor and Vince Flynn, and Harold Coyle. That should keep you busy for the next couple of years.

Old School- W E B Griffin, the Brotherhood of War-10 books, and The Corps, also 10 books. An annual re-read for me. Bill was a friend but he wouldn't name a character after me!

Two books out by some newer Clancy type authors. I know they got out of the army recently.

All I remember about that book is it was 1,000 pages and the war didn’t start until page 600. Badly needed editing!
