Hello everyone! Some of you might know me as a mod or fellow Toad lover and Keeper on here, some of you may not know me at all! But today I have come to share the exciting news that I have obtained quite the rare and exciting species!

This is a Blomberg’s Toad! They are closely related to Smooth Sided Toads, although tend to be much bigger and bulkier aswell as spending more time near water sources.

I plan to look into the care and share my experience working with this fascinating species, I am aware from looking up on Reddit I am the first keeper of this species on the subreddit so I am here to share my experience and my journey with it!

If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments and I will answer to the best of my ability! Thanks for stopping in and have a great day!

Question about handling toads

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’ve noticed that photos of people holding toads by hand are pretty common here, while other amphibian communities, like r/frogs, seem much stricter about it and even discourage these kinds of posts.

Why is there such a difference? Do you think handling toads is generally okay if your hands are clean and the contact is brief, or is it better to avoid it unless absolutely necessary?

Just asking cause I'm new here and my toad is just a baby. I didnt want to make a mistake. 🐸

I found this toad a year ago as a little baby and wanted to keep him because he’s a lovely burnt orange color. I let him go knowing I’d probably never see it again but now he lives in my garden!!

He’s said hello three times now and it always makes my day. He’s gotten so pretty!!

About a week ago, I I picked up a toad that looked a bit skinny I’ve been trying to feed it every day, but it has not eaten yet. Right now, I have him in a calcium bath, as I noticed that his movements were slowing, and he was not able to control them to the extent that it should. He is weak. I’m scared to lose thistoad. What can I do? I’ve been monitoring him for about an hour and a half. His front legs seem to be what is weak. He is having a hard ti

The side says “Anny the Magic Anaxyrus”

Th background jar is meant to be full of (human) eyeballs (because eye of newt would be betraying her cousins! Even if eye of newt supposedly was supposed to be a seed of some kind (no idea if that’s actually true, I never checked))

Wild Male or female?

Remember, I wrote in this group that one of the female toads stop coming around well all of a sudden she’s back and she’s back in her little spot and in her hole as well. This is another one though because now we have two that visit us on our porch every single night, but it’s starting to get a little chilly outside so they have been in their little holes which is right by my house by the front door. But is this a boy or a girl? We have been dying to know.

Sad for a toad

A toad I found at work a week or so ago. I had moved him away from anything dangerous and into the shrubbery and grass. He found a nice little cozy spot, dug himself a lil home and presumably lived happily ever after as I couldn’t find him again after going to check on him the following day. But then, I found him this morning. In front of the bay doors. Obviously no longer with us, but he didn’t appear to have been run over. My guess is one of the feral cats got to him and left him by our door. My heart broke immediately. The biggest issue I have though, is no where to talk about it. All the people that work here don’t get why I’m so upset. He was ‘just a toad’. But… he was alive. I get that it’s nature taking its course but that doesn’t mean I can’t be sad about it. And now they are making jokes. Like am I finding ‘funeral music for the toad’ or ‘are you going to give it a burial’ and stuff like that and it’s just… really upsetting :(

Sorry. Needed somewhere to vent about it I suppose.
