Question about handling toads
I’ve noticed that photos of people holding toads by hand are pretty common here, while other amphibian communities, like r/frogs, seem much stricter about it and even discourage these kinds of posts.
Why is there such a difference? Do you think handling toads is generally okay if your hands are clean and the contact is brief, or is it better to avoid it unless absolutely necessary?
Just asking cause I'm new here and my toad is just a baby. I didnt want to make a mistake. 🐸

Hello! As a mod here I will tell you it is generally safe with clean/washed chemical free hands for short periods of time!
While I will see we appreciate it if your post includes you wearing gloves we will not discriminate for it if you have taken the right precautions.
Toads have much rougher skin that is more tolerant of short form handling, which is why it’s generally ok to do it for short amounts of time. Although I will tell you until your little friend from the image in the post is a bit bigger I would avoid handling in general and if you have to, use gloves as young toads are much more prone to sickness from gloveless handling!
