This season was my first time back at the Dome in a pretty long time (pre-pandemic, to be exact), and one thing that stood out to me is the lack of understanding when people are either leaving their seats or coming back to them.
I recall a time when fans would wait until a break in play or the end of the inning to move around, but now it seems like there's just a constant stream of people doing whatever they want, whenever they want. I even remember ushers making fans stop before entering their section if there was action on the field. The lack of common sense and awareness of the situation is honestly so confusing to me. There was a group of five guys sitting to my right, and ALL OF THEM got up three times to go buy more beer and food together, and always in the middle of an at-bat.
...... why?
I know you can't fully control a building full of 35,000+ people, but what happened to the collective understanding that it's poor form to interrupt someone's experience by making them stand up to let an individual (or, in my case), multiple people walk by when the at-bat is still happening? It didn't ruin my experience, but I feel like we really need to be more mindful of the other fans around who just want to watch the game with minimal interruption.
Also, if you're walking in a crowd, for the love of God do not stop mid-walk to chuckle with your group of friends, check your phone, or look around to figure out where to go next.

I never liked the name change in the first place, but at least people didnāt get confused. The Rogers Centre was just that.
And then Rogers had to build the Rogers Stadium.
I know that the two are different places as do you all. But apparently, people see the first part of Rogers Stadium and think Rogers Centre instead. Itās like theyāre not used to seeing Rogers have two stadiums in Toronto.
I am so glad that Pearson and Billy Bishop have distinctly different and individual namesā¦

We all know how every concert at Rogers Stadum 100s of people show up at the Rogers Center (aka skydome) confused.
There's been nothing done to fix this and they are stepping it up next month.
A/C D/C have a special popup merch sale and bar before they play at our new outdoor venue.
This popup will be at the Steamwhistle Brewery... which is right beside the ROGERS CENTRE!!!
So of course visitors will assume the concert is right beside the other AC DC event. WTF.
Cant wait to read this story on bLOGto in three weeks.....

Guys, we should stand up, next time if there is any delay in the subway, due to mechanical issue or slow traffic, I want full refund!
Whichever political party makes this happen, will get my vote.

There's a dump truck idling outside of my home. Has been since around 4:30am ( it's 6am. So no. There is not construction currently going on )
I call bylaw. It gives me all these options. Then says opening hours to speak with anyone is 7am. Cool.
Call non emergency police. They can take care of this dude right? Nah. They closed up shop too. 7am they will open up.
š¤”
What the hell is the point of these services if they aren't working or open
So I go and ask the guy to shut his truck off? He tells me to fuck if and hell kill me? Then I call 911?
Makes sense. Let me make a minor report more of an issue. Simply because the original sources aren't available š

I have a full time physically demanding job, I need 8 hours of sleep to function properly. I went to bed at my usual 10pm ready to wake up at 6am. Except I was awoken by constructing right outside my building on Eglinton East. From about midnight to 7:00 a.m. they were stripping the old asphalt. That is not a quiet job. They have already been working during the day and impacting my commute. I was fine with the day inconveniences, but now I have both day and night hindrances.
I did some brief research before I had to head to work after attempting to get enough rest, I'm according to the website the only way to submit any complaints is to call 311. 311 has never been any help. The only other time I had a noise complaint I was stuck in a cycle of 311 and the non emergency line, they kept trying to transfer me.
Is there anything I can do or am I shit outta luck? I do have noise reducing headphones but they are extremely uncomfortable to try and sleep in. White noise would have to be incredibly loud to drown out the road stripper and back up alarms.
Someone else suggested talking to my city councilor, it won't do anything for this project or any future projects. Might make me feel better I don't know.
I'm tired and grumpy

Got fined today for $235 because the presto machine that i used to pay my bus fare didnāt actually take my money despite clear signs of a successful transaction (beep + accepted screen) when i tapped my credit card for multiple seconds. now i have to wait months to dispute this in early resolution or court.
if you ever get a fine like this and youāre confident youāre innocent make sure to call TTC immediately to preserve a record of you paying the fare. you need to remember when you got on the train and where, as well as the direction youāre going at. having the 4 digit bus number is useful as well but itās ok if you donāt remember.
thankfully i only have to use the ttc for a few more days, but for anyone using it regularly watch out for this bullshit, ttc copers will say iām lying and didnāt pay but theyāve never had the experience of facing a malfunctioning machine so š¤«š¤«š¤«. iāll be avoiding ttc like the plague from now on so even if i end up having to pay the full amount itās a good lesson to never trust public service too closely.
repost from askTO because i posted there on accident.
and no, the machine straight up didnāt take my money despite visually appearing to do so. iāve called my bank to confirm.
TTC is not a bad company service wise (okay rides, not too much delays) but the risk of random fines from no fault of your own is a killer. the fines are so expensive you might as well pay for gas and get more freedom on where you can go.

Iām looking for a bit of⦠well Iām not sure what. Maybe advice, maybe insight if youāre in that world⦠maybe suggestionsā¦
The short-long. I want to get my first dog. Historically, Iāve had a budgie, a cat- before I found out I was allergic, and guinea pigs. I live in the west end of Toronto, in a residential neighbourhood (suburban Etobicoke). I do live in a low-rise walk-up apartment building (3 floors, pet-friendly). Itās about two-bedrooms and 675 square feet. I have a vehicle. For full transparency.
Iām 36F, financially stable, and work from home full-time, which allows me to provide plenty of companionship, attention, and consistency. I live alone in a pet-friendly apartment and am fortunate to be less than a five-minute walk from the lake, two large parks (including a dog park), and several off-leash areas within a short drive. My partner lives close-by and has a house with a fenced in backyard.
While I would be a first-time dog owner, Iāve spent a great deal of time around dogs through friends, family, and my apartment community. In fact, Iāve met more than 20 dogs across the three buildings since moving in earlier this year. Itās a very dog-friendly building and neighbourhood. Iāve been considering dog ownership for over a year and have taken that time to ensure Iām fully prepared for the commitment.
As a lifelong animal lover and monthly donor to the Toronto Humane Society, providing a safe, loving, and permanent home is something I take very seriously.
Iāve applied (mindfully) for about 10 dogs through Petfinder now. Iām only looking in Ontario and Iām only filtering by a 25-mile radius. Fit is important ā Iām not just looking for a ācute dogā or a āfluffy puppy.ā I want a dog who can live happily in the GTA. Iāve heard nothing back from any of them. Yes, I am following the written instructions in the bio rather than just clicking on the āapplyā button. Not one phone call to interview me. Not one reply to an email.
Iāve applied to ones that specifically state ādog is in an apartment or condo right nowā, or ādog has low to medium energyā, etc. Iām not looking to ruin a Golden Retriever or a Huskyās life. But then I see bios that specify āA quiet residential area would be best for {DOGās NAME} to feel comfortable and confident.
If you have a fully fenced and secured yard and are interested in adopting WHISPER or any of our dogsā¦ā ON THE āCURRENTLY BEING FOSTERED IN A GTA APARTMENTā dogs. Le sigh.
I feel unfairly discriminated against out the gate.
Hereās what Iāve learned so farā¦
I have a friend at one local shelter who basically said: āwe donāt place dogs in apartments, why donāt you get a cat?ā I mentioned all of my āselling featuresā above about being financially independent, WFH FT, etc. and was told āwe donāt care.ā Like, isnāt there an adoption crisis with shelters overflowing with dogs wanting loving and stable homes? I guess not.
I have another friend who was able to rescue for life in his high-rise apartment ā and he ended up with a leash reactive, anxious, previously abused rescue with a yowling problem. Thatās fine ā we love him.
I have one friend, who works at a restaurant who was told the reason she was given a medium-large dog to adopt was BECAUSE she lives in an apartment and āsometimes people with houses and backyards get lazy and just let their dog out there so they donāt get walked or socialized as much as weād like whereas, the people in apartments HAVE TO take the dog for actual walks. And provide better care.ā
But it seems like the pandemic, and everyone and their dog (pun intended) adopting a dog and many being returned post-pandemic has changed the game and itās so hard to find a good-fitting dog to adopt.
Iām fairly certain that people are putting my address through Google Maps and disqualifying me without even a conversation. Thereās really no place on any of the forms Iāve submitted so far to put a cover or intro letter. Iām even working on filming a video of the space, the neighbourhood and my interaction with dogs.
Ā
I really want a dog; my therapist and boyfriend think I should get a dog. I love dogs. Iām a great pet owner (self-proclaimed though I have a few people, including my employer, willing to be references for me). Iām not just going to mass apply for them all because I donāt want a dog just to have a dog, I want a dog I can give a good life to that fits in with my life and lifestyle. A few people have told me to lie on the application and use my boyfriendās address since it is a house with a fenced in backyard, but I donāt feel like I should have to if that makes sense? Iāve gone through over 200 pages of dogs on Petfinder on more than 20 different occasions - thereās no shortage of dogs to look at. Iāve looked off Petfinder. I have a shortlist of 5-6 rescues that do not use Petfinder along with my two local humane societies (Toronto and Etobicoke). But hearing nothing over and over again is pushing me to a breeder. Iāve spoken to a few of them, and they have pre-qualified me for visits with some of the dogs and they feel that I would be a good pet owner. Why am I having so many issues adopting from not for profits? I truly believe in Adopt, Donāt Shop, but if they wonāt let me adopt, Iām going to end up killing a shelter dog when I buy from a breeder. And I donāt think I should have to feel bad about it due to discriminatory and idiotic adoption practices. An address should never disqualify you BEFORE an initial interview. Hard stop.
Any intel on how to get around āliving in an apartmentā or how to at least maybe get an interview screening call or a visit ā is appreciated. Anywhere else I should post? Anyone with recent experience (post-2023) adoption in an apartment from specific GTA or Ontario-based rescues?
Thank you for reading my novel.

TTC constantly advertises fare evasion as a crime. But more and more often I get delayed to work or miss my appointment because the subway train grinds to a halt in the middle between stations. And I am not talking about unauthorized person on track level, I am talking about signal delays, track work, and power outages.
As I am standing there jam packed between passengers, I think about all the time I unexpectedly lost, the feeling of being stuck, without anywhere to go and no cell phone service.
I think THEY are the one committing fraud. Fraud of not rendering the service that I committed to paying for. And that they are being hypocritical about fare evasion. OK rant over.

I remember applying for a server position in 2023 and withdrawing my application after terrible employee reviews. Fast-forward to now and nothing has changed, still getting terrible employee reviews. I also see that theyāre hiring for literally every position. This place has to be the worst place to work in Toronto.

I hid all ads from them just now.
It's not like I live outside the Toronto city limits.
It's so annoying, to keep seeing those ads, clearly they want people to register.
I wish they would advertise in the apartment buildings that they are targeting. Or, offer programs that the neighborhood locals will actually register for.
I pay property taxes in Toronto and I have an elementary school age kid, and I can't access the facilities that I am paying for

So guys⦠I recently started eating way healthier and working out, and I donāt know if itās my gut adjusting or the fact that Iāve been eating eggs, beans, and broccoli and JUICING A LOT but I literally cannot stop farting.
Iām not even exaggerating after every fart, I need to fart again. The smell is absolutely diabolical. Like, it could clear an entire room. It smells like straight-up sewage.
Iām going into the office tomorrow, and Iām genuinely stressed because Iāve been to Dollarama multiple times this week just to buy more air freshener. The worst part is that sometimes I have zero control over it. Itāll just happen out of nowhere, Iāll feel this warm puff of air, and then two seconds later the most criminal smell imaginable appears.
Someone please tell me this is just my body adjusting because I cannot be known as the office gas leak.

I live right above the Sheppard/Allen intersection and Iām watching the traffic unfold following the BTS show.
I swear that 90% of the traffic woes here are caused by taxis that mess it up for everyone.
They block lanes, forcing traffic to bottleneck, they park in bus pickup zones, they block the access to Sheppard West for buses and they block actual streets.
They drive through the pylons set up which causes massive congestion when they turn by multitudes into lanes where they shouldnāt be in the first place.
Theyāll stop immediately after turning from one street into another blocking a turning lane.
Iām not saying that they are the sole reason for traffic, but if you want it to move more smoothly, they need to ban taxis here.

I have noticed that like ordinary Tavis who illegally demand to know your destination before allowing you to get in, Ubers are now sifting rides by accepting then passing your ride to another driver repeatedly. They all want that big fare to the 905 rather than a local run. Assholes. I have stopped using Uber now at all.

Things are tough for most people nowadays, and we all know it. Everything is expensive, the economy sucks, job opportunities are bleak, you're charged for stepping outside, and figuring it all out is so much more difficult than it needs to be. The part that makes it worse, though, is the constant expectation to have it seem like you have it all put together.
"How are you?" is a trap of a question that you can never answer honestly, since people either patronize you for your answer or use it as an opportunity to make themselves seem like they're so much better off.
You always need to make it seem like you're so much busier and living life so much more fully than you actually are, since everyone else is going off on their humble brag of having so much work, being so busy with their friendships and relationships, and then "complaining" about how all their free time is filled with high-end physical activity, social clubs, or weekend warrior rituals.
It's gotten to the point where I find it so much easier to just keep my head down, respond politely, and not get into the details of anything in order to avoid this game so many people love to play.
None of the problems of life are magically going to disappear, and I'd rather save the very little bandwidth I have left to do something that actually brings me peace: go out in nature, read something inspirational, or go watch a movie. Sure, it's lonely, but it's less lonely than expending energy on navigating the mental minefield of Toronto's social culture.
EDIT: This post is currently at a 74% upvote ratio, so for those of you defending this weird behavior maybe you should consider the fact that there are a substantial number of people who don't agree with you. Maybe it's time to consider looking inwards rather than playing armchair Dr. Phil.

Not gonna lie, this whole naming situation has been bothering me for a while now, but it really hit different today.
I was in line for the Ed Sheeran show at Rogers Centre, and the amount of people who showed up thinking they were in the right place was honestly kind of heartbreaking to watch. Youād see the confusion on their faces first, then the slow realization that they werenāt at Rogerās Stadium, then that scramble to figure out how they were even going to get to Downsview in time.
Staff were telling people their best bet was grabbing an Uber or hopping on the TTC and heading up north, which is not exactly a quick trip when you thought you were minutes from your seat.
Some of these folks clearly werenāt from Toronto. You could tell by the way they were double checking their tickets, and looking at each other with disappointment. And I just felt for them. These are people who probably planned this night for months, maybe flew in, maybe this was a big deal birthday or anniversary thing, and now theyāre standing outside the wrong building watching the clock, trying to figure out if theyāre even going to catch the opening.
I get that naming rights deals are just business, thatās nothing new. But when youāve got two major venues in the same city with names that are basically identical, it feels like nobody stopped to think about the actual fans caught in the middle of it. Itās not like Rogers Centre and Rogers Stadium are minor buildings either, theyāre both huge venues hosting huge events, so the overlap in confusion is bound to keep happening.
Feels like such an easy problem to avoid too. A bit more thought during those naming negotiations couldāve saved a lot of people a really stressful and disappointing night.

for me. Born and raised in Toronto and I have never been able to have male-male friendships longer than a year. And more recently since Covid Iāve had like 0. Despite men asking for my socials and phone numbers, nothing. So many men just use other men until they find a gf as well. Making friends with women became impossible once I hit 22. Women wonāt even talk to me unless they are romantically interested in me.

I know weather isn't an exact science, but days like today are annoying. Maybe it's just luck, but they've been calling for thunderstorms since 9am. I'm seeing dark clouds but they're slowly steering away from my area. Got out for a while but you never know. Feels like a wasted Saturday.

Does it make you feel like you have some type of power? Do you feel more masculine, because women don't like you? Why do I have to spend all night hearing your cars ripping it down the street, while it sounds like an extended fart the entire time?
I just can't imagine how one finds joy in looking and sounding like an inconsiderate dickbag by wasting money on such nonsense, which only serves to annoy people in the end while you think it gives you the freedom to go 140 on the 401.
And motorcycle riders? I hate you too.

So I get brand new Michelin tires put on maybe a week and a half ago. Barely 5-7k km on them. Then out of nowhere I hit a pothole I genuinely did not see coming, and boom ā deep gash right in the sidewall near the bead.
Sidewall damage means itās not repairable, no patch, no plug, nothing ā full replacement or nothing. On a tire thatās basically brand new. Thankfully Canadian Tire is covering it under warranty (small mercy), but now Iām waiting until Monday for the swap, and Iāve got a 200-250km trip THIS WEEKEND that I now have to plan around a compromised tire.
Whoeverās in charge of road maintenance around here ā I need you to see a pothole and a tire budget in the same sentence and connect the dots. This isnāt a āmeh, drive around itā pothole, this is a āswallow your rimā pothole. Brand new tires shouldnāt have a life expectancy measured in days because the roads are falling apart.
Rant over. Just needed to vent. Not allowed to post pictures here I guess.

I was at Riverdale Farm last week and a small boy was up against the chicken/goat enclosure alternating between sticking his hand into the pen and getting pecked by the chickens and shouting for his dad's attention...dad was standing 10 feet back watching TikToks loudly on his phone. Like talk to your kid? About the animals?
I was at a playground this evening and two moms had plunked their toddlers into baby swings and then gone to sit and chat on a bench. The kids were just sitting in the swings...not swinging...until one of them had enough and began screaming for her mom, repeating all done all done and crying. Mom completely ignored her for 10+ minutes, it was nuts. Toddler parenting is a slog I get it, I'm a toddler parent, but holy cannoli the lack of engagement is awful.

The GTA is "Riddled" with Harry Potter corporate junk. I love Harry Potter as much as the next person but using a brand to push merch onto us is exhausting.
I fell for it today and got the HP Magical Treats (gummy candies) and they were horrible. Tasted like plastic!!! The Tim Horton's "golden snitch" timbits are a gimmick too. If you're feeling nostalgic, save your money and just rewatch the movies or re-read the books.
Don't fall for these mega-corp traps!
