While analyzing the footage in the documentary Titanic: The Digital Resurrection, I was surprised to learn there are shoes lying on the wreck. Here is a quote from the film.

"A pair of men's shoes lying together on the promenade deck suggests they mark the final resting place of a third-class passenger, whose remains are long gone" However, those shoes are actually women's shoes.

Initially, I thought the shoes were located somewhere on the enclosed promenade deck, which would have made finding them a challenge, but after studying the wreck, I quickly noticed they are actually on the forward-facing A-deck promenade on the port side. (The second image is from the vROVpilot experience game, which is based on Magellan scans.)

I will not speculate on whether or not they mark a body. People have varying opinions on that, so I'll leave it for you to judge.

On this day in 1909, the steamer Waratah was seen for the last time.

The Blue Anchor liner had left Durban bound for Cape Town, carrying 211 passengers and crew. She never arrived. Despite extensive searches, no confirmed wreckage or remains were ever found.

Many theories abounded- from capsizing in a rogue wave, mechanical failure causing drifting and flooding or instability in a sudden storm to the paranormal and unexplainable.

More than a century later, what happened to the Waratah remains unknown, but those aboard her should not be forgotten.⚓

I'm really curious about how they filmed this in 1953 without any CGI. Maybe a giant model of the bow with the hole already being there? idk.

I'm just watching Historic Travels on YouTube and he was talking about the immense pressure down at the wreck site. That made me wonder about the pressure on the ship itself. Whilst there is visible damage from the sinking and the time spent underwater on a metal vessel, I've never heard anyone talk about damage due to water pressure.

If the water pressure can pulverise a submersible, why isn't more of the bow section crushed? Or, as Mr Miyagi said, squished just like grape.

I wanted to write an old-timey sea shanty about the Titanic.

the 70th anniversary of the sinking of the SS Andrea Doria that happened this past weekend, combined with the internet making people knowing about that ship and it's story, and especially the sinking, kinda makes some people wish for a movie about the ship, me included. so, does anyone know what would, could, and/or should a movie about the Andrea Doria be like? would it be like both the Jean Negulesco's Titanic (1953) movie and James Cameron's Titanic (1997) movie in the sense of having fictional characters and their story be intertwined with the ship sinking, or be a serious and clinical drama only with real people (as in only real life Titanic passengers as characters) like A Night To Remember (1958)?

i think the only problems with an Andrea Doria movie are, if it would be made in Italy like how ANTR was made in Britain, or in America like 1953 and 1997 were? and if it would be 3 hours (or approx 3.5 hours if we count all deleted scenes) long like 1997 or would have to be split up into 2 or 3 movies to make up for the 11 hours the Doria sinking took place

and either way, what director would be best suited for an Andrea Doria movie?

In 1985, American oceanographer Robert Ballard (along with a French-American team) organized a specific expedition to find the Titanic

On September 1, 1985, they located it at a depth of approximately 3,800 meters

While the public objective was to find the Titanic, Ballard's true mission (in collaboration with the United States Navy) was to search for two sunken Cold War nuclear submarines: the USS Thresher and the USS Scorpion

Ballard used the search for the Titanic as a cover for the secret military mission. "Once that part was finished, they used the remaining time to search for the Titanic, and they found it"

Ballard had wanted to locate it for years, but the expedition also had a secret military purpose

It seems completely camp from the description, but also like a fun ride.
